The City of New Orleans generated approximately 302, 7261 tons of solid waste in 2013. This amount does not include the amount of solid waste during Mardis Gras alone, which is estimated to be as high as 8,000 tons.(2) Much of the waste generated annually and during Mardis Gras includes recyclable materials including glass, aluminum and cardboard containers . However, due to the limited free recycling program currently in place, too much of these recyclable materials ends up in landfills. Currently, only residential developments with four units or less and some small businesses are eligible to participate in the City’s free curbside recycling program.(3) Restaurants, Hotels and Bars as well as many commercial businesses are not eligible for participation.(3) During the 2010 Mayoral election, recycling was one of the top campaign issues. While measures have been taken since then, these measures do not go far enough and it’s costing the City environmentally and economically. For instance, due to the low rate of recycling, savings from landfill tipping fees are minimal -- approximately $150,000 per year. However, if recycling rates approached those of San Francisco, the annual savings on tipping fees would reach into the millions. Therefore, we the undersigned beseech the City Council to expand the City’s free curbside recycling program immediately. We urge the Council to increase eligibility of the program to include larger residential developments, restaurants, hotels and bars. And finally, we call on the Council to implement a special recycling program for the 12-day Mardis Gras celebration. A few days ago, the Koch money-backed advocacy group, Americans For Prosperity (AFP) mailed out incorrect voter registration information to hundreds of citizens in North Carolina. Despite hundreds of complaints from North Carolina voters who received misleading official-looking voter registration forms, the North Carolina State Board of Elections has not yet investigated this attempt at voter suppression. According to the board's public information officer, misinformation about voter registration can be a felony if it is intentionally misleading and is proven to suppress voters. These forms (from the conservative group Americans for Prosperity) misled voters about the deadline for registration and the address to which the forms should be mailed, both of which could result in people thinking they had registered to vote when they had not. Please sign this petition to tell the North Carolina State Board of Elections to investigate this mailing.

But Americans for Prosperity, with their deep ties to the billionaire Koch Brothers, has doubled down on subverting democracy with a mailing that can and will confuse and mislead voters. Governor McCrory must take action to protect North Carolinians now!

A few days ago, the Koch money-backed advocacy group, Americans For Prosperity (AFP) mailed out incorrect voter registration information to hundreds of citizens in North Carolina - and at least one cat. That's right, a cat. The group labeled these mailings as "official application forms" in an attempt to trick citizens into thinking they were registering to vote in the upcoming election. Ridiculous attempts like this to rig elections must stop now! To make the matter worse, no one seems to know where AFP got the list of people this mailing went to, and a citizen has even reported the "form" he received was addressed to his cat. This has to be the final straw for all Americans, not just NC voters. This is the United States of America - not the United States of David and Charles Koch. If action isn't taken on this now, we are letting the Koch brothers pick and choose who they want to sit in our legislatures and, serve as our judges. Join me in demanding that Americans For Prosperity explain to NC voters why they are illegally and unethically tampering with our democracy!

On September 26, 2014, The Guardian reported that Expedia, the world's largest online travel company has paid thousands of dollars to ALEC as part of their corporate membership. Expedia sits on ALEC's "Tax and Fiscal Policy Task Force," which has developed bills that shift the tax burden from the wealthy to the middle class.

This week Microsoft, Google, Facebook, and Yahoo have joined countless other organizations and individuals are fleeing ALEC's crooked political agenda. However, AOL has refused to join them. Sign our petition and tell AOL to take a stand against ALEC's dirty politicians and backroom deals. We need to tell AOL that, like dial-up internet users in an age of broadband, continuing their ALEC membership means they'll only fall further behind.

We, the families of Weymouth Youth Football and Cheerleading request permission to use the baseball field adjacent to the WHS turf field for game day warm-ups. To date, Mr. Slattery, a town employee, has denied all requests to permit our children a safe and easily accessible warm up space for their games. We hereby request that Mayor Kay use her authority to override the decision of Mr. Slattery and put the safety of our children before town politics.

I can no longer purchase tickets for events at face value. I am forced to purchase tickets with inflated values at the financial benefit of a third party.

I am concerned that voters will be prevented from fulfilling their rights to a fair election process.

This change in WI law comes only weeks before an important election. It is projected that up to 300,000 legally eligible WI voters will not be able to vote in November because they don't have or won't be able to obtain the required ID in time. I work at the polls and have seen firsthand how difficult it can be for legitimately entitled people to provide the documentation necessary to register even before this new requirement.
