Vote NO to selling Lincoln SchoolAs a resident of Ward 3, I feel 12 days is not enough time to consider the pros and cons of selling Lincoln School and such a decision should not be made in such haste. Many residents of Creston's 3rd ward agree that 29 units (16 senior apartments and 13 town homes) is TOO MUCH to develop and only benefits a few people. And, fellow Crestonians agree. Seldin's proposed project also takes away our neighborhood play space. Other wards have green space, why take ours? In conversations, Seldin's developers were very clear that forgoing the town home portion of the plan on the green space was not an option. We want a library that will invest in future generations, and the library's new plans reflect that. The new library and cultural center will increase our property values while creating a place that inspires, heals and empowers our community. Don't you agree that Creston deserves that? Don't feel rushed in your decision. If you do, vote no to Seldin Company.60 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Sarah Brown

Tell Congress: Pass the Stop Militarizing Law Enforcement Act. No more Fergusons!Police in Ferguson, Missouri could transform their town into a war zone—because of armored vehicles, assault weapons and body armor provided by the United States military. And police militarization has happened in cities all over the country. Section 1033 of a military spending bill passed in 1996 allows the Pentagon to give “surplus war material” to local police departments. Since 9/11, the Department of Homeland Security has also offered grants to local law enforcement agencies to “combat terrorism and fight the war on drugs.” As a direct result, we see situations like what we saw in Ferguson. Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA) will soon introduce the Stop Militarizing Law Enforcement Act in Congress—which would end the federal government’s program of providing billions of dollars worth of military equipment to local police. It’s about time. Sign the petition to Congress: No more Fergusons. Pass the Stop Militarizing Law Enforcement Act.5,819 of 6,000 SignaturesCreated by Rachel Colyer

Candidates Must Support Medicaid Expansion in NebraskaIt is estimated that 54,000 citizens of Nebraska are not getting the medical care they deserve because our state refuses to join the federally funded Medicaid Expansion program in the Affordable Care Act. The program is fully funded for the first three years and is funded at a minimum of 90% after that. Our current governor thinks we can't afford it, but clearly it is not a money issue when millions of dollars could infuse our economy and create new jobs while providing needed medical care at the earliest stages of a problem rather than crisis control in an emergency room. Withholding this coverage is fiscally irresponsible and morally corrupt. The opposition to this program “has placed the lives of hundreds of working Nebraskans at risk and jeopardized the health of thousands more” said the Nebraska Hospital Association. (Washington Post, March, 19, 2014) I’m not going to stand by and let my fellow Nebraskans die for lack of access to medical care when the program they need is ready and waiting to help if only the Unicameral and the governor had the will to act. A recent effort to move forward with a very common sense implementation failed to progress in the Unicameral by only 12 votes. Please help by signing this petition today. We must put pressure on those who are running for office this election cycle. We can’t let this type of narrow minded politics continue in our state.1,088 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Cathy Lohmeier

Require All Police Officers To Wear CamerasThe police deserve our respect. They deal with the worst of society on a daily basis. At the same time, people have rights. Several recent viral videos have served to undermine the police and their ability to maintain law and order. Many of these videos do not show what led up to the arrest and many show the people in question resisting arrest. When the suspect dies because of physical force, the public is angered and protests have ensured which has lead to rioting endangering the community at large. At the same time, there is a small percentage of police officers that have become that which they work to protect us against. These THUGS with a BADGE abuse power, do not care about your civil rights, and would not hesitate to harm you if you cross them on a bad day. These people do not maintain law and order, they only serve to undermine the rule of law and instead inflict their own version of justice - and they need to be removed from the streets. Please help us maintain TRUTH with ACCOUNTABILITY. Because the police deal with situations that are often violent and involve criminal behavior, it is in the best interests of our modern society to arm them with the ability to record their interactions with the public so that never again will people question what happened. We will know the truth and we will ALL have accountability for our actions.114 of 200 SignaturesCreated by ProgressiveModerateParty
