  • Protect the Guard - Protect the Nation!
    Compared to the Active Component (AC), the Reserve Component (RC – National Guard & Reserves) are: 1) One-third the cost with the same operational performance. 2) On average older, more experienced senior and master aviators and mechanics. 3) Have a significantly better accident record. Here's an analogy... it's like the U.S. Olympic Team taking one third of their team, the third that are not full-time Olympians, but those that may have other jobs in addition to training for the Olympics, and just letting them go. And in that one third are some of the most committed, most passionate, and oftentimes most diverse and experienced. The ARI threatens to do just that to Guard Apache and Kiowa Warrior pilots and maintainers. These are the Guardsmen and women in your State, in your community, in your neighborhood. Are you, as a tax paying citizen, OK with that? Apache and Kiowa Warrior units in the Guard do more than just train for combat. They provide ready and immediate Domestic Operations (DOMOPs) to their respective States. They can provide an Air Base of Operations (AOB) for air and ground ops, and integrate with other services such as firefighting. Support companies within the Battalion can provide ground equipment (vehicles, generators) and mechanics; a robust medical section that can provide a variety of medical care; mobile kitchens as well as several tents that can provide heat and housing in the event of a natural disaster. Apache helicopters can provide airborne command and control, escort vehicles around destroyed bridges and other infrastructure, and use FLIR (infrared) to locate isolated persons and even find hot spots during firefighting to assist with water bucket drops. As you can see, the Guard provides a valuable role whether serving at home or overseas. This is a grassroots effort to raise awareness - please speak out to your representatives and let them know why you disagree with this! Make sure you bring to their attention the proposed House Resolution 3930, which if approved will halt the ARI for at least 2 years and allow an independent study to be conducted.   • Tell the NFL to Pull Super Bowl out of AZ for New Discrimination Law
    The NFL should not openly support such a discriminatory practice. Thousands -- including LGBT people-- will visit AZ for the Super Bowl. By keeping the Super Bowl in AZ, the NFL is saying it's OK for some of their fans to be discriminated against.

  • Get religion out of Politics
    I see the evidence of global warming and the accidents caused by tampering with oil and gas explorations. I see nuclear wastes spilling into our environment, all scientifically provable. I see our children's education devoid of adequate understanding of science and mathematics and I see a growing religious fervor to negate evidence in favor of an outdated document written by men, long before scientists and technological development. These same people use technology and medical advances, yet influence political opinions for their own, private gain. Keeping people ignorant is a sure way to dominate them.

  • Does MADD endorse people who have been convicted *four* times for DUI being allowed to get driver...
    If someone can't stop drinking and driving after three DUIs it seems obvious that s/he can't stop her/himself from drinking and driving. If the rehabilitation regime in the Nekritz-Hasting bill is an iron clad guarantee the individual won't drink and drive, then let's apply it after the second or third DUI. After four DUI *convictions* one should lose the privilege of driving for life. Illinois has plenty of communities served by public transportation. People who can't control their drinking and driving should live there.

  • H.R. 4058: Preventing Sex Trafficking and Improving Opportunities for Youth in Foster Care Act
    As of February 21st, H.R. 4058, designed to protect some of our nation's most statistically "at-risk" youth, has an 8% chance of being enacted.   • REPEAL STAND YOUR GROUND (RESPECT-4-RESPECT)
    Respect-4-Respect Petition is an effort to speak out about the Stand your Ground law specific Harm’s Way effect on African American. WE know it is African Americans, African American teenagers NOW; but, this law will claim other citizenry as time goes by with the same trigger-happy rule-of-thumb. Stand your Ground legally promotes lawlessness, discrimination, stalking, profiling, myths, criminalizing, privilege-to-kill and growing threat of by-design murder. The two recent trials in the state of Florida, in-the-court cases, for the death of two African American teenagers, Trayvon Martin, 17 years and Jordan Davis, 17 years proves that the law Stand your Ground is extremely bias and racial in its intent and implementation. It said the teens were automatically guilty even though they were not the perpetrators. It has sent a message of one-side law and privilege of the Caucasian race dictates rights (human-civil-legal) and one can shoot-and-kill without reprisal. Stand your Ground law fails on many moral and ethical counts. For this petition, we call upon our United States Attorney General Eric Holder and the U.S. Department of Justice to address the harm’s way of the Stand your Ground law in Florida and across the USA. Further, we seek our U. S. Constitution for guidance and enforcement. Stand your Ground law fails on behalf of: • “Citizens of each State shall be entitled to all Privileges and Immunities of Citizen in the several states” (U.S. Constitution - Article IV, Section 2); • “. . . and to petition their Government for a redress of grievances” (U.S. Constitution - Amendment I); • No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any persons within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws (U. S. Constitution – Amendment XIV, Section 1). We summon with urgency through this RESPECT-4-RESPECT Petition for immediate REPEAL of the Stand your Ground law (s) in the USA.   • Transparency for Hospital Pricing!
    In 2012, I fell from a ladder and hurt my hip. I was taken to the hospital, where I waited hours to be seen. After only a few minutes with a physician, I was sent home, but when my bill arrived, I discovered that those few minutes had cost me over $4,000! When I saw the ridiculous prices on that bill, I was outraged. It included charges like $51 for two pain pills. And there was no way for me to know how much I would be charged until the bill actually arrived, and no way for me to know if another hospital nearby might have cost less. If we’re serious about getting the cost of healthcare down, then patients like me and you need to be able to know how much we’ll be charged--before we decide who to see for our care! Help me tell our state legislature that they need to protect patients by giving us the transparency we need to make smart healthcare decisions.

  • California Hospitals: Stop Overcharging Patients!
    Two years ago, I was hit by a car, and ended up in a coma at Cedars-Sinai. I was there for two weeks before they sent me home, still unable to walk, without physical therapy or pain medication because I didn't have insurance. Then the bills started. $235,000 for those two weeks. I just started crying. And the bills just kept coming. I'm working and feel better now, but the bills are still there. I can never pay this. And my story is just one of thousands. People across California are suffering from outrageous hospital bills. Bills with prices like $21 for a single aspirin tablet, $18 for two Alka-Seltzer, or $35 for a tube of hydrocortisone cream. Hospitals in California charge prices like these every day--overcharging by an average of 300% or more above their actual costs. And these kinds of prices keep many Californians from getting the care they need, and leave others--like me--under a growing mountain of healthcare debt. Meanwhile, the hospital industry in California made more than $4 billion in profits in 2012. We can’t afford it. California’s healthcare providers must bring costs down to reasonable, affordable rates.

    We know Pre-K and after-school work. Study after study shows that high-quality investments in early education and extended day learning can boost student achievement and success for years afterward. But today, most children in New York City still don’t have access to free full-day, high quality Pre-K, and tens of thousands of middle school students miss out on educational after-school programs. Universal Pre-K is not a new idea. In fact, Albany has been talking about universal Pre-K ever since 1997. But the money to make it a reality has never come through. To expand Pre-K and after-school, we need a steady, predictable source of funding. That’s why we need Albany to pass UPKNYC’s plan to pay for these critical investments by asking New Yorkers who earn more than $500,000 a year to pay a little bit more in taxes.

  • Nederland Mayor & Boulder Magazine Libel Residents over LAWFUL Marijuana Gardens
    Medical marijuana patients in CO have been LAWFULLY growing cannabis at home for 14 years and after passage of A64 in 2012, anyone over 21 can also lawfully grow cannabis at home. The article in the Boulder Magazine accuses lawful growers in Nederland of illegal cannabis gardens and a $5-$8 million dollar underground market with no evidence to back up their claims.
