On January 9, 2014, in Charleston, West Virginia, a chemical spilled into American Water's water supply for 300,000 people, making it unusable for anything but flushing toilets. Unfortunately, there was no other source of water available, so American Water customers were without clean water for weeks and the contaminated water spread throughout the system. Me and my four children along with other extended family and countless friends were directly effected by this tragedy.

The Voting Rights Act is one of the most important pieces of civil rights legislation Congress has ever passed. Last year's Supreme Court decision weakened critical provisions of it. Right now, Congress can restore those protections by passing this important bill. Rep. Mica should support this effort by cosponsoring and fighting for a strong bill.

To protect our water quality, watershed, and habitat, and to preserve this vital natural area for all of the city of Eugene and its future generations.

The VRA is a very important piece of our civil rights legislation. The Supreme Court decision last year greatly weakened critical provisions of this act. I have fought to broaden voting rights in our country for most of my life only to see a Supreme court majority of 5 far right conservatives gut the Voting Rights Act making it easier to deprive American Citizens of their right to vote. Congress can restore these protections by enacting this important civil rights bill. Rep. Cardenas should support this effort by cosponsoring and fighting for a strong bill.

Although I have not been personally affected by these changes to the Voting Right Act, I believe the most fundamental right of all American citizens, the right to vote, should be protected as fiercely as life itself. Voting in the United States should be facilitated, encouraged and celebrated at every level of government and by every American citizen. That is why I am asking you sign my petition calling on Renee Ellmers to support this important piece of legislation.

Voting--an American Right

We no longer have a Democracy. For anyone who thinks we do, you haven't been paying attention. Look at the states. Look at your voting rights, have just recently, become a target of the right. Perhaps gerrymandering isn't a sure enough bet. All these recently passed laws are a solution looking for a problem. There is no voter fraud however, there is certainly election fraud. The Republicans know they can't win elections fairly- they have no accomplishments they have no solutionsto2 any problems- lower taxes & smaller government is not an agenda by which to run a country. The groups that are affected by their election laws are, in fact, the very groups of people that are not going to vote for republicans- Women, Minorities, College students, the Elderly, & those living in Urban communities. This is not a coincidence. If you can't convince people to vote for you, then stop them from voting for the other side, by any means possible, is a very, very sick strategy.

Yes lost my job illegally after almost 25 years at 1 company and now more unemployment. We the US people are now forced to make choices, food, lose our homes, utilities or Obama Care. Without unemployment how does the government expect 3+ million unemployed to contribute to the economy this is a disgrace and I am embarrassed to be an American. As a professional who was making 6 figures and now zero and have applied for thousands of jobs no one will help so we have to now help ourselves and UNITE and MARCH ON CAPITAL HILL. This bickering has to stop your literally killing our country.

I am African American and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 have enfranchised those who historically had to overcome voting obstacles like Poll Taxes and Literacy Taxes. The U. S. Supreme Court's decision in 2013 to overturn a key enforcement component of the VRA threatens the rights of millions of citizens to participate in American Democracy. This new law adds voting protections back for the disenfranchised.
