• President Brown Help BU Students: Endorse the Warren Bill
As an alumna of Boston University (COM '03), I'm asking President Brown to endorse Senator Warren's Bank on Students Bill to keep student rates low and affordable. I depended on student loans to attend and graduate from BU ten years ago and I want to make sure other students from all backgrounds are able to have the same opportunities extended to me as a result.

  • Let's Buy the Tribune Company-- not the Koch brothers
Think this can't happen? Think again. Crowd-funding gives us the power of numbers. Which owners would you prefer own some of the nation's premier papers -- the Koch brothers? Murdoch? Or us? I love the investigative reporting that the Chicago Tribune and the LA Times have done. If the Kochs or Murdoch get a hold of these newspapers, you can say goodbye to crucial reporting.

  • Stop Fracking in Illinois!
The "Bradley Bill," SB 1715, was passed out of Executive Committee (11-0) to the legislature on Tuesday, May 21st. It will be "fast tracked" for a vote by the full body, and if passed, will be signed by Governor Quinn. We all know there is potential for an accident which could taint our last and best supply of water in this region, the Mahomet Aquifer. An alternative bill, HB 3086, contains a two-year moratorium on fracking and calls for further study. With all the unknowns, why isn't that a better choice?

  • End the Endless War
On Memorial Day, as a member of Families of 9/11 & Voices of Sept 11, I want to honor and recognize the fallen by beginning a petition effort to end the endless war that has been ongoing since 9/11/2001. My son is now more than eight. In less than ten years' time, I imagine the world he will live in. I wonder what he will be asked of him. Will he be enmeshed in what will by then be a 22 year long world war? I want a Memorial Day where we can remember and honor the fallen ~ during a time of peace. How can we exist in a war without end? The answer, I think, is clear. We can remember and honor the fallen best by seeking a better world.

  • Governor Quinn: Stop the Mississippi Sand Frac Sand Mine Near Starved Rock!
Mississippi Sand LLC hopes to make LaSalle County into a kind of frac sand mecca. And I, like so many citizens of my area, am terrified of what is in store for us! Mississippi Sand has laid claim to our world-renowned Starved Rock State Park, where they hope to blast apart the St. Peter sandstone, and mine for up to 40 years. Mississippi Sand is currently in operation with Archer Daniels Midland Co. and American River Transporation, who will be responsible for barge fleeting the silica. The Sierra Club, Prairie Rivers Network, and Openlands are presently embroiled in a lawsuit to challenge Mississippi Sand's mining permit. We must support them and stop MS from opening up the proposed pit!

  • No More Smear Campaigns
This petition is to emphasize the childish nature of our politics and what they have become. For those who don't know, this is 2013 and still, we are forced to sit back and let Politicians make FALSE statements and LIE about each other. During political season (every 4 years) millions are manipulated into voting or not voting for candidates based on lies and deceit. Instead of letting this go on, I feel that we need to design a set of guidelines enforcing rules against smear campaigns and lying in Politics.
