Right to Label GMO FoodAs consumers, we have a right to know if our food has been genetically modified, and this should be labeled on our food. End of story. "A genetically engineered food is a plant or meat product that has had its DNA artificially altered in a laboratory by genes from other plants, animals, viruses, or bacteria, in order to produce foreign compounds in that food. This type of genetic alteration is not found in nature, and is experimental. The correct scientific term is "transgenics," and is also often referred to as (GE) genetically engineered. The Health Risks of Genetically Engineered Foods Are Unclear. Unlike the strict safety evaluations required for the approval of new drugs, the safety of genetically engineered foods for human consumption is not adequately tested. There have been NO long-term studies conducted on the safety of genetically engineered foods on humans." From http://www.labelgmos.org/ Additionally, there are significant restrictions or outright bans on GMO's in more than 50 countries including Germany, UK, Spain, Denmark, France, China, Russia, Poland, Japan, Mexico, Brazil, Australia, Italy, Saudi Arabia, and South Korea.340 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Mandy Pruitt

Tell the FCC: Talk Radio is NOT Bonafide News!America's broadcast airwaves belong to "We the People." Radio stations are licensed to use our airwaves if - and only if - they serve the public's best interest. That means giving an unbiased account of the news of the day, and during elections, affording both major political party's candidates and their supporters equal time. During the 2012 Scott Walker recall campaign in Wisconsin, Milwaukee AM radio station WTMJ used its local talk radio shows to exclusively promote Republican Governor Scott Walker and his supporters, while refusing time to his Democratic opponent and his supporters. Media Action Center documented and then tallied every minute of on air "promotion" of Walker and filed a challenge to WTMJ's license for failure to serve the public interest as defined by the FCC. Now, WTMJ's parent company, Journal Communications, is fighting back. Journal Communications owns 15 television stations and 35 radio stations in 12 states. They are arguing that talk radio show hosts may use our public airwaves to exclusively promote candidates of one party because the shows are the same as “bonafide news.” The bonafide news term refers to an exemption from the "equal time" rule that broadcast media gets when it is covering a candidate in a legitimate news situation, such as a public event or campaign stop, or when it is airing a documentary type program. Conservative Talk Radio have been using our publicly owned airwaves to push a one-sided political agenda. Now they are asking the FCC to legally define this one-sided rhetoric as "Bonafide news." If the FCC redefines editorial opinion as "news," it will sound the death knell for truth in journalism as we know it. A Pew study revealed that already, nearly a quarter of the population believes that talk radio is in fact "news." That's a scary statistic – and one we can't afford to let grow. Talk radio combines fact with fiction, making it impossible for listeners to discern which is which. It is irresponsible, it's manipulative, and it's a violation of the rules that govern our public airwaves. One thing it is not: news.1,812 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Sue Wilson

STUDENT LOAN DEFAULT CORRUPTIONI am an elderly person living on social security disability and have been as a result of a car accident back in May of 1997 that took me out of work from my job in law enforcement where I was employed for almost 24 years. I attempted at one point to go back to school (when around 1985-86). However, due to health problems, I was unable to complete the course (in advertising and computer design). I had to leave school. My initial student loan was not more than $2,500. Today, on social security disability, I am told that I owe the student loan educational people in excess of $17,000! Despite the fact that they have been deducting $151.00 from my disability check EACH MONTH, leaving me less than $800 to live on for the month, they called me this week and asked me how soon I can send in the balance of the loan which is in excess of $17,000! I am also a diabetic and cannot afford the types of food I need to eat to care for my health. I lost my husband in 2004, live alone and cannot meet my personal needs. I receive $16 per month in food stamps! This is a grave travesty in this supposedly richest country in the world. I reapplied for a forbearance, and was told that the fact that I am on disability and have been for some time is not enough of a reason for them to stop this monthly electronic deduction. I need proof from the medical profession that my disability is sure to result in death! I am 63 years of age and cannot take on gainful employment, and even if I could, where would I get 'gainful employment' at this age? I worked all of my life for this money. Because I had no dependents, very much was taken out of my pay. Why now is it possible for this to be happening that I cannot get access to money that I worked for! No one gave it to me. Is this why the checks went to automatic electronic deduction? So that they could have full control over the money we worked for and paid into the system. Have we no more control over the money we worked for? Is there no recourse for this in that they can take this money out now INDEFINITELY--leaving me not enough to live on!2 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Hadassah Akusani

Migrant WorkersThis petition is about Migrant Workers and their low pay. We have made this petition to help migrant workers get paid more adequate to what they do. Their jobs are grueling and time consuming. Their hours are much longer than what the average person works, with less than an 8th of what they get paid.5 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Sofia Acchione

No National ID-Stop The Immigration Modernization ActThis is a massive violation of American rights and Liberties. Regardless of where you sit in the political spectrum both sides have massively abused power from 9/11 to the recent IRS scandal. If we give the government the ability to to track our every move in the name of immigration can we trust that they won't target people and track people for political reasons? Even if this was run on the up and up it will cause massive TSA experiences from applying job to getting medicine. The cost of freedom is too high. Just say no.3 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Doug Baker

Stop The Delisting Of Endangered WolvesThe U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recently proposed to delist gray wolves across the lower 48 states from the Endangered Species Act and we only have a few days left to tell President Obama and Interior Secretary Jewell to change their minds. If the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service removes gray wolf federal protections, wolves in the Pacific Northwest, California, the southern Rocky Mountains, and the Northeast will face even more difficult odds than they do already. The recovery of gray wolves is an American success story, from their reintroduction in the northern Rocky Mountains to their comeback in the western Great Lakes states. But there are few, if any, gray wolves in the vast majority of their former range. This may be our last chance to stop the slaughter of wolves from being even more widespread! Urge President Obama and Secretary of Interior Sally Jewell to maintain protections for gray wolves in the lower 48 states.178 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Doug Honnold, Earthjustice

Stand Up for Veterans and Social SecurityChained CPI is a cut to Social Security and veterans benefits, plain and simple. President Obama has proposed this cost of living adjustment in an attempt to bring Republicans to the table for negotiations. But over the course of a long retirement, these changes could cost senior citizens $20,000 in benefits. With income inequality at record levels, Americans depend of Social Security now more than ever. Without it, nearly half of all seniors would live in poverty. Veterans would get hit doubly hard – not only do 9 million vets receive Social Security benefits, but many would also face reduced disability or pension benefits. That's why we need to make our voices heard. Stand shoulder-to-shoulder with me and other progressives in calling for reforms that strengthen Social Security without cutting the benefits on which our seniors and veterans depend.2 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Congressman Keith Ellison
