• Hats in School
Hats should be allowed in school, because I use hats as a way to express myself. There should be a limit, I understand, because if a student goes to school in a ski mask and does something illegal, the police will have a hard time catching him/her. A fedora, for example, when worn the way it was meant to doesn't even cover your eyebrows, which isn't a problem. For more information, call or text me at (775) 342-3898.

  • Regulate overproduction in puppy mills
Our animal control and shelters are being overwhelmed due to the overproduction of puppy mills. Which means they can not be used for their original purposes. They were created to take in strays until their owners can claim them, (or re-home them, if not), and to save pets from abusive conditions. What they are now being forced to do is EUTHANIZE MILLIONS OF PETS EVERY YEAR. This is not humane and is no longer acceptable. PUPPY MILLS ARE GLUTTING THE SYSTEM!

  • Rep. Stewart: Promote Climate Solutions, Not Climate Denial
My name is Ryan Pleune. I’m a former high school science teacher from Salt Lake City, Utah. My wife is a sixth generation Utahn, and she and I have worked together to capture Utah's pioneering spirit in addressing climate change. My congressman, Rep. Chris Stewart, was recently appointed to be the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Environment in the U.S. House of Representatives. We desperately need Congress to pass legislation on climate change, and any scientific legislation regarding climate would be heard by this Subcommittee. Yet its chairman, my representative, denies that human-caused climate change has sound science supporting it, despite the fact that every major scientific institution in the world agrees that evidence for human-induced global warming is unequivocal. Here’s what Rep. Stewart said recently: “I’m not as convinced as a lot of people that man-made climate change is the threat they think it is.” When pressed by a reporter, he added “before we make any long-lasting policy decisions that could negatively affect our economy, we need to be certain that the science behind our decisions is sound.” As a science teacher, I understand that climate science is sound: climate change is not a future problem for our younger generations to solve later. It’s here, it’s happening, and it is already costing Utah and the United States. In 2012, Utah’s wildfire season was one of the worst on record, costing a total of nearly $50 million, with about $14 million paid by Utah taxpayers. If nothing is done, climate-related disasters like these are projected to grow more common and more intense, costing our residents and taxpayers even more. That's why I'm asking Congressman Stewart to not only accept the science, but to propose legislation that will connect the dots between extreme weather disasters and climate change--and that will help mitigate the effects of both. Please add your name to the petition to help deliver this message. Thanks, Ryan Pleune Forecast the Facts Member P.S. We'll be delivering the petitions at Congressman Stewart's Davis County Town Hall on Tuesday, April 2, 2013. We'll be meeting in front of the North Salt Lake City Hall (10 East Center Street North Salt Lake City, UT) at 4:30 p.m.. All are encouraged to join!

  • Victoria's Secret: Stop Objectifying Teen Girls!
Victoria’s Secret’s new “Bright Young Things” campaign brings sexual objectification to middle schoolers – it’s a line of provocative clothing and lingerie expressly aimed at teen and tween girls. Stuart Burgdoerfer, CFO of Limited Brands, which owns Victoria’s Secret, says of young girls, “They want to be older, and they want to be cool like the girl in college, and that’s part of the magic of what we do at Pink.” This is not magic – this is using the distortion of young women’s body image and insecurity as a source of profit. There are a variety of things teenage girls “want to be” — safe, respected, encouraged, valued, to name a few. Join with Sojourners and call on Victoria’s Secret and Limited Brands to end this campaign against the self-worth of women and girls by sending a message to their communications team and board of directors.

  • Redefine Full-Time Employment under the Affordable Care Act to 35 Hours or more per week.
All across the country, employers are preparing for the Affordable Care Act by cutting the hours of their employees. • Gov. McDonnell: Restore Voting Rights to People with Felony Convictions
It's been tough telling my sons why their dad can't vote I made some mistakes when I was younger that have stripped me of my right to vote. You see, I was arrested for a fight when I was 16 and convicted of a felony drug possession when I was 29. I'm now 40 years old and I haven't been able to vote for most of my life. I'm also a single dad who is trying to set a good example for my boys. I'd really like to have a chance to show the that I care about the world around me and that I can do something to make it a better place. Governor Bob McDonnell said in his annual State of the Commonwealth that he believes in second chances and that he supports automatically restoring voting rights to people with felony convictions who have done their time and paid their fines. But the House of Delegates killed a bill that would have made that a reality. Now I'm asking Gov. McDonnell to sign an executive order that would allow people like me to get a second chance and be a part of our democracy. --Darrell Gooden

  • Change the Law
You might not believe it, but in Michigan, you can be fired for being gay. Republican politicians like Jase Bolger and Bill Schuette aren’t interested in changing this - in fact, since taking power they’ve launched numerous attacks on the rights of anyone who looks, acts, or loves differently than they do. Write your lawmakers today to tell them you believe it’s wrong that Michiganders can be fired for being gay, and that you support amending the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act to protect people from discrimination based on sexual orientation.

  • Harry Reid: Appoint Senator Sherrod Brown as Charmain of Banking
Since Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD) is retiring in 2014, we have an opportunity to appoint a Chairman who will ensure that Mega-Banks do not commit numerous financial crimes and that their size will be reduced in order to increase stability in the economy. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) is an appropriate candidate for chairmanship, as he proposes ending "Too Big to Fail" and has introduced legislation in the past placing limits on the size of our nation's financial institutions. Many Americans have had enough of "Too Big to Fail" and the time has come to appoint a chairman who will take action to end it.
