• Support The Student Loan Fairness Act (H.R. 1330)!
Student loan debt now exceeds $1 trillion. The debt burden now falls on 37 million Americans. Over recent decades, higher education has been treated as an individual commodity, rather than a public good or an investment in our collective future. As a result, millions are now buried under the weight of student debt and are putting off major purchases and life decisions. This has serious negative consequences for our economy and our future. This is NOT only a "young person's problem." At least 60% of the $1 Trillion is owed by Americans over the age of 30. In short, student loan debt has become the latest financial crisis in America. If we do absolutely nothing, the entire economy will eventually come crashing down again, just as it did when the housing bubble popped. But now, there is a solution: H.R. 1330 - The Student Loan Fairness Act - Introduced in the House of Representatives by Rep. Karen Bass (D-CA) and co-sponsored by Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-FL)! The Student Loan Fairness Act would create a new “10-10” standard for student loan repayment, in which an individual would be required to make ten years of payments at 10% of their discretionary income, after which, their remaining student loan debt would be forgiven. Further, this legislation would: • ensure low interest rates; • allow those eligible to convert their private loan debt into federal direct loans; • reward graduates for entering public service professions; • provide a lifeline for student borrowers who have fallen on difficult times; • encourage delinquent and defaulted borrowers to re-enter repayment; • replace the current, 10 year “Standard Repayment Plan” for the full amount of the loan balance with the “10-10” plan as the default repayment option for borrowers entering repayment. Student loan debt causes an undeniable and significant drag on the economy. The Student Loan Fairness Act directly addresses this enormous boot on the neck of the middle class and represents a glimmer of hope for millions of Americans who, with each passing day, find that the American Dream is more and more out of reach. Therefore, we, the undersigned, respectfully request that Congress vote Yes on H.R. 1330, the Student Loan Fairness Act and, thereafter, that President Obama sign this bill into law. • Change Congressional pay and benefits
The government is currently out of touch with how a huge percentage of the citizens feel about them and their lack of action. Only working a few hours a week and doing nothing in the process is making the American people lose faith in them and this can bring about rather bad results. If the elected officials lose many of their benefits and only get paid when working, maybe they will do better.

  • Tell Governor Snyder: Stop fracking before it pollutes the Great Lakes
Fracking is descending on Michigan: The oil and gas industry has already snatched up millions of acres of mineral rights in Michigan to greatly expand fracking throughout the state. At every stage of the drilling process, fracking puts the Great Lakes, and the waterways that feed them, at risk of water contamination, toxic waste spills and more. The Governor is holding a public forum on his energy policy on Monday 3/25. Take action now to make sure your voice is heard. Tell Governor Snyder to stop the spread of fracking before it pollutes the Great Lakes.

  • Institute Mandatory Public Funding of all Elections
We all know that campaign financing has devolved into bribery pure and simple. Because of this, representation is proportional to the amount of money offered, not "one person, one vote".

  • Help protect our children
Florida House Republicans are refusing to hear HB 591 (sponsor Mark Pafford, D.) which is a bill to require summer camp operators to have background checks. The Palm Beach Post did an investigation and found child rapists and other convicted felons to own or work at summer camps with virtually no oversight to protect our children. There is no place for partisan politics when our children's safety is at risk.

  • Gun victim compensation
Car owners are required to register their cars and carry automobile insurance to cover any damages their cars may cause. Guns can be even more deadly. Gun owners should not be treated more favorably than car owners. In the event of death or injury, victims and their families should be compensated through insurance instead of being forced to rely on public assistance
