The cost of healthcare has skyrocketed in recent years and this affects all of us. Administrative costs, layers of bureaucracy and especially executive compensation and bonuses in the millions of dollars directly and unnecessarily inflate our health care costs while doing nothing to keep us healthy. Since we in Massachusetts are required by law to have health insurance, it is not unreasonable to expect health care costs be kept down through a government mandate. No one should be profiting from an individual's illness or accident. This is not unconstitutional - many other states already limit what professionals can charge for services. For example, auto mechanics in California not being able to charge over a certain hourly rate for labor.

The East Lyme Town Council is giving the green light to developersto build condos on the hills along the Niantic River. The problem? The levels of non-point source pollution is rising every year in the water and this development will decrease the beauty of this pristine waterway and only further contaminant the water. I'm calling on Southeastern Shoreline residents and those along the river to STOP the town council from giving away this land to developers!

Duke Power and Progress Energy merger is unfair to customers due to projected rate hikes following the merger. The details of the merger were not fully disclosed to the NC Utilities Commission, Federal Energy Regulators, and the public. The lack of transparency is a breach of trust. Costly repairs and upgrades will unnecessarily burden the electric utility customers of these/this electric corporation.

Gun control, too many innocent people are killed behind loose canons. Stricter gun laws and control making it almost impossible to register to own a gun.

Once again we are hearing about a LONE gunmen killing innocent people. This time it's a theatre in Colorado. The problem is not just this individual and itis not the film, the theatre or the movie-goers. The problem is that we continue to sell guns to unstable individuals who are usually described as loners with no friends. My proposal is that we require every prospective gun buyer to have a cosigner. The cosigner would have to show proper ID and, with their signature, state that they 1) are not a relative, 2) have known the gun-buyer at least one year, 3) trust the gun-buyer to be a rational individual free of any psychological problems, and 4) share the responsibility equally with the gun-buyer for any criminal activity perpetrated with this weapon. History shows that lone gunman are not upstanding citizens and members in good standing of their local gun club. For that reason, I belive this law would not be oppossed by organizations like the NRA. In fact, I would expect the NRA to endorse this petition because it would help keep guns out of the hands of psychotic individuals that give gun-owners a bad name.
