CALIFORNIA STATE TRAVEL & BUSINESS BOYCOTT OF ANTI-CHOICE STATESOne of the main reasons maternal mortality has been rising in the United States is directly related to the barriers to reproductive health and abortion that anti-choice politicians have been putting forth in their State legislatures. California has consistently supported the rights of the LBGTQ community by instituting travel and/or business bans with States that discriminate against the LBGTQ community. Its time that California uses its economic power to support the rights and reproductive health of women as well.42 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Kim Rathman

Let's do Lido landscaping RIGHT!It has come to our attention that Lido Island Community Association (LICA) Board of Directors (Board) and the Major Capital Improvements Committee (MCIC) have requested permission from the City of Newport Beach to redesign the medians, the windows to the bay, and other public spaces on the island. The cost is estimated upwards of $100,000. Due to this cost and the extent of the proposed landscape changes, we, the undersigned, request such improvements undergo further and more comprehensive input from residents. An island-wide improvement is planned. However, information has been shared inequitably among residents about proposed changes. In February, Lido Isle residents whose homes border the landscaped islands located on Piazza Lido received a hand-delivered flyer informing them of an MCIC decision to re-landscape the Piazza medians. The flyer also invited these particular residents to attend a February 26 meeting at the Clubhouse to review proposed plans for Piazza Lido only. For most recipients, this notice was the first news of the project although meeting minutes of LICA Board (2/13/19) and MCIC (1/31/19) appear in the March 2019 Lido Islander. Residents living on other streets, i.e. non-recipients of the flyer, were given no notice of the February 26 meeting. To wit, the landscaping of the Piazza Lido medians is part of a larger plan to re-landscape all medians on Lido (Via Antibes; Via Genoa and Via San Remo) as well as parks off main streets on the island (Via Firenze, Koron/Soud, Orvieto/Soud, Waziers/Soud, Antibes/Nord). While efforts to improve the island landscapes are appreciated, many of the residents whose homes face the medians, as well as others who pass by them daily, have specific concerns about the proposed improvements. At the same time, updating the Landscape Design Guidelines for Lido Isle is crucial. These guidelines will bring a comprehensive design to all landscapes on Lido in conformance with City standards and will serve as a template for future island improvements. Islanders deserve attractive landscapes consistent with other areas of comparable property values overseen by homeowner’s associations, for example, Newport Coast and Emerald Bay. Any proposed design should be in keeping with Lido’s Mediterranean heritage and consider water-wise garden practices as is consistent with Mediterranean landscapes. All Lido property owners’ dues ensure them input into decisions made in their interest. With the extraordinary resources available on Lido we should be setting the highest standard for innovation, conservation, and aesthetics within the City and beyond. While the undersigned appreciate the time and effort LICA has expended on these projects, we request further community-wide discussions before moving forward on any landscaping projects now under consideration. These issues affect all Lido residents. Concerns include the establishment of updated design guidelines by qualified professionals that provide for unity of design and plantings on Lido in conformance with City standards as well as equitable input by residents.26 of 100 SignaturesCreated by diane schmieder

The Opioid Epidemic is a Children's Health Crisis and Requires ACTION NOWThe opioid epidemic is swiftly sweeping across Colorado and is not just a public health emergency but a children’s health crisis. A study published in the Journal of Pediatrics found the number of children admitted to hospitals for opioid-related diagnoses has nearly doubled from 2004 to 2015. While there is a keen focus on supporting those battling addictions, educating medical providers, and altering the distribution of opioid prescriptions, to date there is no government-funding targeted at young people and preventing usage or offsetting the impacts of family and or peer opioid abuse. This fund would provide community organizations with funding to use evidence-based programming that will address opioid and related health risk factor prevention for children and youth up to age 19. Colorado's children need this fund!34 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Danielle Felder

Mayor Weinberger: Revise Burlington Housing CodeAre you outraged by the housing options in this city? Tired of paying an arm and a leg for substandard rentals? Appalled by what meets minimum housing standards in Burlington? The lack of safe, affordable housing poses a threat to the health of Burlington residents. One solution is to hold landlords to a higher standard when it comes to property maintenance. This means revising the City of Burlington Housing Code. The National Center for Healthy Housing developed the National Healthy Housing Standard in partnership with the American Public Health Association in recognition of the impact housing has on the nation’s health. This standard is more stringent than the City of Burlington Housing Code in key areas including: requirements for windows and exterior doors, specifications regarding natural light and ventilation, minimum interior temperature requirements, requirements for condition of bathrooms and kitchens, requirements for moisture control and pest management, and security requirements. To protect the health of tenants, the City of Burlington needs to revise the minimum housing code to align with the National Healthy Housing Standard.16 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Shannon Lucy

Change the dress code! The girls at many schools around the country have been pressured to wear t-shirts and shorts past their knees in the hot summer days. I believe that we should be able to choose what we wear without fear of getting into trouble at school because it makes us feel good, and just because a girl wears “revealing clothing” doesn’t mean that they are instantly going to get raped or anything of that nature. Girls and guys should be able to at least wear tank tops and shorter shorts in the summer; it’s not like our shoulders and knees are instantly going to “distract the boys.” The dress codes make out women and girls to be sexual objects, and that showing a little bit of neck or shoulder would instantly make us sluts or worse. Stop slut-shaming girls for wearing what makes them feel good about themselves.31 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Victoria Schanck

Make Equal Pay for Equal Work the LawRight now, women make up nearly half of the United States’ workforce, bringing billions of dollars into our economy and serving as the sole or primary income earner for almost half of all households. Yet despite the immense economic power they hold, women make on average only 80 cents for every dollar a white man makes. However, for women and other people of color, the pay gap is often even wider, with African American women making 61 cents, Native American women making 58 cents, and Latina American women making just 53 cents for every dollar. This is unacceptable. Decades after the passage of the Equal Pay Act and the Fair Labor Standards Act, women and people of color still face lower starting salaries and fewer opportunities for professional growth. This contributes to higher levels of poverty for women and children and reinforces social and economic barriers to health, education, and social opportunities. Right now, the Senate has a chance to pass legislation that will bring us closer to eliminating the wage gap and ensuring that women receive equal pay for equal work. Yet despite recently passing with bipartisan support in the House of Representatives, Senate Leader Mitch McConnell is unlikely to even bring the legislation to a vote. That’s why we need your help. Sign our petition today to tell Senate Leader McConnell to support people of color and women—#PeopleLikeUs—by bringing the Paycheck Fairness Act to a vote. Together, we can ensure that all people are paid what they have earned, regardless of their gender, race, or ethnicity! Want to do more? Share this petition with your network, then call your Senators and tell them to urge McConnell to vote on the bill and ask them to support this critical piece of legislation.3 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Megan Cagle, New American Leaders

Congress: Pass the Census IDEA ActWe can put a stop the Trump administration's plan to RIG the 2020 Census and skew our democracy for the next decade or more. The Census is constitutionally required to count every person living in the United States. But Trump's Commerce Department is trying to add an unnecessary, untested, and unreliable question about citizenship status to the survey -- which, coupled with his anti-immigrant fearmongering, will decrease the response rate of communities of color and keep those communities from being fairly represented. Here's how we stop this racist scheme in its tracks: the Census IDEA Act. This bill would require three years of review for any new Census questions. This would stop Trump's Census-rigging in its tracks -- and ensure that only well-tested questions appear on the survey in the future. Add your name and tell Congress to support the Census IDEA Act now.381 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Devon Nir

Protect Our Food Stamp ProgramPromise the Children supports the development of healthy children and families. Our nation's Food Stamp Program is an anti-hunger program whose only purpose is to help our most vulnerable neighbors eat.
