The Endangered Species Act has saved some of our nation's most iconic species from vanishing into extinction. Bald eagles, humpback whales and California condors are here today because of the protections of this groundbreaking and popular law. Despite the Endangered Species Act's 99 percent track record and historically bipartisan support, some Republicans in Congress and Ryan Zinke's Department of Interior are waging a coordinated attack on this law and the species it protects. Congress is considering nearly a dozen proposals that target the Endangered Species Act. Among them are bills that would either block or remove protections from species including sage grouse (a bird that relies on habitat sought by the oil and gas industries) and all of the gray wolves in the lower 48 states. Ryan Zinke, Trump's Secretary of the Interior, unveiled his plans to overhaul the Endangered Species Act recently. The Trump/Zinke plan would reduce the protected habitat set aside for endangered species and make protecting yet-to-be-listed species more difficult. If these proposed changes are successful, endangered plants, fish, and wildlife–and the places they call home–will suffer. On June 29 Library Director Mary Faith Chmiel (white) attempted to stop members of National United Council black students from meeting in the study area. The Director followed youth around and stating that our group was in violation of Library policy. The Mayor said our group was not in violation but the Library director continued to harass with security guards and white staff. This same Director has a history of attempting to stop black groups from having access to Library facilities.

When a party begins to structure the government in a way that keeps them in power, removes the executive branch's power, and makes the judicial branch subservient, we no longer have a democracy, we have a cleptocracy. Don't allow any party control your right to choose. Call them out when they refuse to attend Town Halls or other events that won't allow you to express your opinions about how they conduct themselves. Force them to stop taking money from wealthy corporations, lobbyists, and individuals.

Cape Ann Community Boating is a non-profit working closely with the City of Gloucester and private donors to create a public boating center on Cape Ann. The plan is to provide small watercraft, such as sailboats and rowboats, so that residents of our area can have affordable access. Membership is designed to be available to anyone who is interested. It is our belief that through working with individuals and families in Cape Ann, we can promote environmental stewardship and healthy living by helping people stay active and connected with their community and surroundings. Dogs and cats are being killed unnecessarily, even a few hours after they are turned in. Veterinarian students are conducting experiments causing animals to die. This is unacceptable; voters in the County increased their taxes so the shelter could become a no-kill shelter. However, the Mayor decided to use the money for something else, disregarding the will of the citizens. Help stop the nonsense killings. Remember, we have the voting power.

Too many posts depicting animal violence have been uploaded by animal abusers with no retribution. When a report is made, Instagram, time and time again, has said the post is within its regulations. It is inexplicable why images of abused and murdered animals are deemed appropriate when nudity and selfies of people with exotic animals are not.

Harmful Algal Blooms (HABS) are nothing new to the many people who enjoy spending time on NYS Lakes. However, of the Finger Lakes, Honeoye Lake has the most severe and longest lasting outbreaks of HABS. In just the last five summers, Honeoye Lake has had 84 CONFIRMED HABS, 14 of those having HIGH TOXINS. That number does not represent all of the blooms that were deemed as suspicious and not tested. We believe the Mechanical Weed Harvester(MWH) is a major cause in the abundance and spread of HABS. Reasons we believe this are: 1) The MWH stirs up sediment and causes wave action resulting in legacy nutrients being dispersed into the water column-especially by the paddle wheels. 2) Due to the Harvester moving so slowly, the heat from the motor raises the surface temperature of the water creating favorable conditions for a bloom to occur. 3) When the weeds are cut, where there was once shade there is now direct sunlight to aid in the growth of algae. 4) The algae that are stuck on the large amount of fragmented weeds left behind by the Harvester are now able to float, spread across the lake and get washed up on shore. This does not even mention the reasons we believe the Harvester also contributes to the toxicity of the blooms. We believe the Harvester is the one cause/variable that we can absolutely control. Please help save Honeoye Lake and stop Mechanical Weed Harvesting!! Thank you.
