I was eligible to vote at the age of 18. But I had to go before a board in my home town to prove that I could cast a vote. That type of nonsense should have gone out centuries ago and not be returned to America to disenfranchise our citizens .

The Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act last Summer. We are asking members of Congress to restore the Voting Rights Act and to protect the rights of all voters across the country, especially in Southern states like Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Louisiana and Texas. The Justice Department should retain the right to review any challenge to an individuals right to vote or any redrawing of District Lines on the state level for the purpose of establishing outlined voting patterns in a particular district. This law should be particularly applied to states that have a history of unfairness, oppression, racial segregation or resistance to providing racial minorities equal protection under the law.
