Every American benefits when all Americans are accorded the right to vote and to participate in free and fair elections.

Congress was instrumental in the passing of the bill initially. Please remain true to your beliefs that all have a right to representation. Voting is the way we choose those we want to represent us.

THIS PETITION IS TO RESTORE SECTION 4&5 OF THE VOTING ACT OF 1965 THAT REQUIRED PRE- CLEARANCE OF ANY CHANGING IN VOTINGPATTERNS BY THE U S JUSTICE DEPARTMENT TO PROTECT CITIZEN OF THE US

I am starting this petition to help restore the Voting Rights Act, section 4, struck down in 2013 by the Supreme Court. Congress can restore those protections by passing this important bill now, ahead of the 2014/2016 elections. Representative Schock of Illinois, HD18, should support this effort by cosponsoring and fighting for a strong bill.

In the original legislation there was a provision that required certain states to report their redistricting plans to the Department of Justice. to make certain that they display racial equality. A handful of folks brought suit arguing that sufficient time had passed so that the states not be required to submit their redistricting plans and the Supreme Court voided that petition agreeing with the petitioners that the States that previously had to submit their redistricting plans need not do so any longer. I am starting this petition because I feel that these states should still be submitting their redistricting plans to make certain that all citizens be treated fairly.
