My petition is about food stamps and welfare. I am affected by this issue because some of the taxes that I pay go to people who collect food stamps and welfare. Some people deserve to collect food stamps and welfare but others don't.

I am an employee of an airline that fired 600 of their career employees at all of their stations with the exception of their hub. This seems to be the future at many American companies where the only concern is the bottom line with no honor or commitment to their employees and to the future well being of our country. This will result in the disappearance of the middle class and the income that has made our country prosperous.

Wisconsin's minimum wage law (Chapter 104) states that the minimum wage must provide a decent standard of living. Wisconsin's $7.25 hourly minimum wage is simply not a living wage. On September 24th, as part of the Raise Wisconsin campaign, 100 low-wage workers filed minimum wage complaints with Governor Scott Walker and the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, demonstrating the daily struggles that Wisconsin's minimum wage workers face. Less than two weeks later, the Walker Administration stated that they found "no reasonable cause" to raise the minimum wage. Well, we find no reasonable cause for Walker's reelection. If Walker won't give Wisconsin a raise, it's time to elect a Governor who will.

Joni Ernst and candidates that share her views on opposing a minimum wage and who are against increasing the minimum wage need to understand that American workers need a living wage. It's been years since there has been an increase and it is long overdue.

Currently, job seekers are invariably being required during the hiring process to explain why they have been unemployed so long. As a result, that sends them into a cycle of not getting hired, lengthening their already long-term unemployment, and making them less desirable hire candidates by subsequent potential employers. This subtle form of discrimination needs to be stopped. A tax credit for potential employers would seem to be an answer.

Last year, 1,000 workers like me were laid off from Angels Stadium when a new company took over the food and beverage operations. We all had to reapply for our jobs with no guarantee of getting them back. The City of Anaheim owns Angels Stadium. The City Council could have passed one simple law to protect us from losing our jobs at venues the City already owns, but they didn't. For years people like us have been underdogs because the rules haven’t been fair. Now we have the chance to make better rules. If enough of us tell Emily we disapprove of this vote, we can convince her to reverse course and support House Bill 390, a bill that would close $500 million annually in corporate tax loopholes and provide much needed revenue for schools, infrastructure and public safety. Washington has one of the highest minimum wages in the country with yearly cost of living adjustments. That’s been good for families, good for local businesses, and good for the state. By raising the federal minimum wage to $10.10 an hour and tying future increases to the rate of inflation we can lift hundreds of thousands of working families out of poverty. I’ve been fighting to pass a bill that would do just that. I’m going to keep up that fight until we get it done – but I need your support. Anyone working full time in America should be able to afford to put a roof over their head and food on the table.
