• President Obama our children need safety please provide armed guards at every school!
Please encourage President Barack Obama to pass a Federal law requiring Armed guards at every educational institution . The federal court buildings have Armed guards. It is time to protect our children's lives to the same degree. Every child's life is just as precious as the employees of the court system. Please help prevent another tragedy like this from occurring. I can never understand the pain and suffering each parent or loved one effected by this tragedy feels and I am sure if you could prevent this you would. Only a second of your time signing this can make a change to protect our loved ones.

  • Put a police officer in every school
Mass shootings at schools, like the one that just occurred in Connecticut, could be reduced if there was a school resource officer assigned to every school in the nation. This should be a policy that all Americans could agree to. More on the policy here: http://rems.ed.gov/docs/DOJ_AssigningPoliceOfficers.pdf

  • Student Loan Foregiveness and Rehabilitation Act
Student debt has eclipsed $1 trillion in this country. This debt is primarily interest on loans made through US colleges and universities. This petition asks that Congress create and the President sign into law a bill abolishing all past, present and future interest on all student loan debt. The US Government should not be in the business of entering into contracts with private business to turn a profit off of our young people just starting out or those who seek to be retrained so that they may remain viable members of the US workforce.

  • Eliminate Caps on Student Loan interest deductions
When I file my taxes every year, I can only deduct about $5,000 from my income for student loan interest. There is no cap on how much I can deduct for interest on a mortgage and I'm sure there are other unlimited deductions. So why is the system biased against students? I pay more to loans each year than I do for taxes or my mortgage. This has to affect millions of Americans by keeping their AGI too high.

  • Be Truthful about Education Funding
Governor Cuomo is misrepresenting the facts about Education funding and it could lay the legislative groundwork for another round of hurtful cuts in this year's upcoming budget cycle. We need to let our communities know the facts so the Governor's spin machine can not ultimately hurt our children again.

  • Disabled Students in Higher Education need your help
DSHE represents all Disabled Students in Higher Education. Disabled students have been discriminated against. UMKC allocates funds to other student groups but not to DSHE. Disabled students need more than just accommodations, we needs the support of UMKC.

  • Music Programs
Hi my petition is to make people aware of how music programs are being cut and it needs to stop now. Children are being cheated by this, taking music helps with math, reading, social interaction, and small and large motor skills. It helps build strong friendships that will last a lifetime. Who are we as people to say they cant have a good experience that can help them find a good career or something they love.

  • Jobless and still paying!
I am currently unemployed and suffering like many others who cannot find employment in his/her field. I have a BA as well as a Master's degree and cannot find work as a Guidance Counselor, yet I am still somehow paying my student loans. Although the Student Loan Forgiveness Act of 2012 has helped many it has not helped myself and many like myself because we have already attempted to consolidate our loans. Therefore the Act listed above does not apply to us or help us. This petition is to stop students from paying there student loans while unemployed including not paying the interest which adds up to thousands of dollars monthly.

  • Educationing Funding
We have had tremendous cuts as it relates to funding for school districts in Texas. We are asking that the Governor Rick Perry and the Texas Legislature to restore money from the "Rainy Day Fund" to our districts. 4 billion dollars were cut, the fund now has 8.1 billion with the potential of exceeding 16 billion at the end of the current biennium. Our children deserve a quality education.Give them a chance!

  • DISTRICT 6 PARENTS AGAINST ELEMENTARY DE-ZONING/PADRES DEL DISTRITO 6 EN CONTRA DE LA DE-ZONIFICA...
Parents and community members in Manhattan's School District 6 are asking the CEC and DOE to table the issue of "school choice" currently under consideration. CEC6 and the DOE have not provided any evidence that dezoning has benefited other school districts or that it achieves its stated purposes or that it would benefit our children or ensure that everyone has access to good schools. • June Atkinson: Keep Rupert Murdoch's NewsCorp away NC schools
I am a mom of two elementary school-age children. I am also a special education teacher. In August of 2012, the North Carolina State Board of Education approved a motion to make mCLASS: Reading 3D the statewide reading assessment for grades K-3 beginning with the 2013-14 school year. The assessment is a web-based system; teachers use hand-held mobile devices to input student data, and each student’s detailed response data is uploaded to the mCLASS website. The system allows mCLASS to provide “historical profiles and reports of each student and classroom via the web,” (www.wirelessgeneration.com). mCLASS is owned and distributed by Wireless Generation, which is owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation--the company that has been embroiled in scandal over its illegal and unethical methods of gathering and using confidential information, such as hacking into the phones of politicians, celebrities and murder victims. No parental consent will be required for mCLASS to collect and store our children’s information. New York state entered a $27 million no-bid contract with Wireless Generation after the company hired several of the state's top executives. Amid News Corporation’s phone hacking scandals, the contract was dropped over concerns about how the company would protect students’ privacy. Now North Carolina has entered into a contract with Wireless Generation. What will we get for our millions of dollars? What will we get from a partnership with a company headed by a man who views public education as a “monopoly” that should be “blown up” to make room for a competitive market in education? Rupert Murdoch believes in dismantling public education, replacing it with market forces and privatization. His for-profit company is entering contracts in multiple states to mine student performance "data" that can be compared to a standard set high enough to “prove” that public schools are “failing.” I don’t want my children’s assessment data to be in the hands of Wireless Generation, but my consent is not required. All I can do is ask the North Carolina Board of Education to follow the example set by New York and drop this contract.
