EMERGENCY MORATORIUM on non-essential stored water use for oil extractionWater is too precious and scarce to waste. Using drinking water to extract oil does not make any sense. We can not afford to waste a drop on non-essentials. This is an emergency and an emergency response is appropriate. Moratorium on water use for oil extraction insures we are securing the safety, health and well- being of essential water for the benefit of the community to the best of our ability. It is the right thing to do.245 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Jeanne Blackwell

Doreen Farr and SB County Board of Supervisors: Demand Compensation for Oil SpillThe oil spill caused by the negligence of Plains All American Pipeline has now reached as far as Sands Beach (near Isla Vista, CA). The beaches are now covered with oil, threatening the endangered snowy plover population, the wildlife and environmental study area in and around Devereaux Slough, and the overall health and well-being of our communities. The county should be reimbursed for all cleanup costs, wildlife deaths and injuries, damage to public health, and loss of tourism revenues, and it should take whatever steps are necessary to shut down oil drilling in this vulnerable and important area.561 of 600 SignaturesCreated by Aranye Fradenburg

Don't Let Any More Oil Spill onto California's CoastThe spill of more than one hundred thousand gallons of oil in Santa Barbara is devastating, and is just another example of the significant impacts the oil and gas industry is having on California's environment and people. In the last few months it's been revealed that billions of gallons of oil industry waste water was pumped illegally into aquifers that hold water for drinking and agriculture; Water Defense also conducted testing that demonstrated that recycled oil wastewater was being used to irrigate crops in California's Kern County; and there have been increasing studies demonstrating that fracking and the disposal of fracking waste in injection wells is leading to earthquakes. Rather than continuing to allow the oil and gas industry to have its way with California, Governor Brown must take real action to protect California's water, air, health, beaches and the climate on which we all depend. Governor Brown recently signed a pact with leaders of several countries to set emissions targets for 2050, but we also need real action to protect California now. That's what real climate leadership would look like.135 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Sarah Alexander

Tell Governor Brown: No oil, no fracking! My grandparents lived and worked on the Refugio coast; my mother played every day on El Capitan beach. They would be saddened beyond belief to see the damage to the wildlife and the environment that this oil spill has caused. Oil production will never be safe. We need to invest now in solar and other renewable energy sources. No more excuses!73 of 100 SignaturesCreated by William Skeen

Mayor Ed Murray: Stand Strong Against Shell!Shell Oil wants to park a gigantic oil rig destined for Arctic waters in the Port of Seattle. Hundreds of residents have already made their voice of opposition heard by paddling out to meet the rigs in kayaks, and Mayor Ed Murray has stood strong against the oil giant. But, Shell has millions of dollars at their disposal, and they are not afraid to use a variety of pressure tactics. That's why it's so important that Mayor Murray and the City Council hear from Seattle residents opposed to the oil rig docking so that they continue to stand strong!208 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Maria Tchijov

Protect the Endangered Species Act From Political AttacksThe U.S. Endangered Species Act has served as one of the world’s strongest and most effective wildlife protection laws for more than 40 years. Take action now to ensure this landmark law is not weakened by political attacks. Anti-environment interests and their friends in Congress are currently orchestrating some of the most serious threats ever posed to the Endangered Species Act. Already this year, dozens of legislative proposals have been introduced that would put imperiled species at greater risk by: Establishing arbitrary land boundaries where species protections would not apply Imposing limitations on citizens’ ability to help enforce the Act Undermining the use of science under the Act Declaring open season on individual species by blocking federal protections or denying existing protections And more… Anti-environment lawmakers and their supporters in destructive and polluting industries have made it a priority to roll back protections for our wildlife, fish and plants, and the habitats upon which these species depend. If they get their way, the Endangered Species Act’s vital protections will be cast aside. Tell your congressional representative and senators to oppose any legislation that hurts imperiled wildlife! Some of America’s most iconic species—from the bald eagle to the gray whale to the American alligator—were rescued from the brink of extinction thanks to the Endangered Species Act. Earthjustice and supporters like you have been fighting to stop political attacks on the Endangered Species Act for decades. We can’t do it without you—we need your help to urge your members of Congress to defend this important law by opposing all anti-wildlife legislation.459 of 500 SignaturesCreated by Marjorie Mulhall

Tell PepsiCo to Take the Conflict Palm Oil ChallengeThe damage caused by Conflict Palm Oil is tremendous. Deforestation to make way for palm oil plantations threatens unique and priceless areas like the Leuser Ecosystem in Indonesia. It threatens species like the Sumatran rhino, orangutans, and sun bears. The impact on communities who are forced off their land or pushed into forced and child labor is simply unacceptable. Despite the last year’s progress, there are still some critical companies that are refusing to take action to address their Conflict Palm Oil problem. One of the worst offenders in the Conflict Palm Oil world - who is also one of biggest makers of popular kid’s snacks - won’t even acknowledge the destruction it's causing. PepsiCo is a major Conflict Palm Oil laggard, dragging its feet, refusing to admit it even has a problem. With a whopping 457,200 metric tons of palm oil used annually in snacks like Quaker Chewy Granola Bars, Cheetos and Lay's potato chips, PepsiCo has a huge impact on the planet, the forests, and the people and animals which call them home. Send your message here: Tell PepsiCo you won't have deforestation, extinction, or slavery in your home.7 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Rainforest Action Network
