• Ban glyphosate use in Rhode Island
Public use of glyphosate is minimally regulated and those regulations are often ignored or dismissed. I have personally observed glyphosate being sprayed on a school property while school was in session and children were outside on school grounds. Exposing our citizens, especially our children, to a probable human carcinogen for the purpose of convenient weed control is wrong. Let's ban the use of glyphosate on all Rhode Island public land.

  • Label GMOs in Colorado
People have a right to know what they put into their bodies. If you are what you eat and you do not know what is in your food supply and the chemicals used to sustain such a product, you do not know what you are.

  • Royal Dutch Shell
Shell is trying to dock two massive oil rigs in Seattle en route to Arctic. Tell Washington lawmakers to refuse their request and protect our environment.

  • Save Bridgeport's Unprotected Open Space
We are hugely concerned about the most recent proposal announced on April 21st to build office buildings and a hotel on this property. Remington Woods should be off-limits for development and instead should be preserved as a park or open space for the people of Stratford, Bridgeport and surrounding towns. There are plenty of true brown fields in the area that should instead be cleaned up and used for office space and hotels, not a precious and rare urban open space such as this one. It would be as if the leaders of New York City proposed developing Central Park as a way to generate "taxes and jobs". Not a good idea in either location.

  • Shell Oil has no business in Seattle
Back in 2001, after completing Graduate School, I moved to Seattle from Texas and instantly fell in love with Washington and, moreover, our beautiful gem of a city, Seattle. I walked around in awe for the first year here as I had never quite seen any place so beautiful! I loved the Cascades, the Olympics, the beautiful city parks and waterways, the majestic tree-covered Seattle hills, the birds, the other wildlife and the fact that we actually have an Orca Pod not far from the city! The sunsets on a clear day over the Olympics are a religious experience. Most incredible though is our awesome cold, deep and clear Puget Sound. I have spent many moments sailing, hiking around and swimming in its cold clear waters. Although our Puget Sound it is deep, wild and beautiful, it is also quite vulnerable and we must be even more proactive in protecting it! It is because of my deep love for this special area that I am asking you sign this petition. Seattle is now my home and I do not want to see this beautiful place put at risk under the guise of economic expansion. Let us figure out how to build more jobs and a better economy on new green and clean technology and not with fossil fuels, which carry health and environmental risks. The Port Commission’s decision to approve the lease of Terminal 5 to Foss Maritime for Shell’s arctic rigs without a public hearing places the entire region in danger and sets a less than positive precedent for transparency and decisions made contrary to Seattle’s core values. Seattle becoming a hub for harmful fossil fuels does not fit our Pacific Northwest values or brand, and more importantly puts our beautiful coastline waters and fragile eco-system at great risk for irreparable pollution and damage. On a global level, climate change is a major concern and Seattle has the opportunity to send a valuable message to the rest of the world regarding arctic drilling and fossil fuels in general. Let’s not squander this valuable opportunity to further our legacy as a green, intelligent and progressive city!

  • Trans fat vs. Arctic Drilling
The Gulf oil spill should shame a one-brain-celled Republican corporate stooge into seeing that enough is enough, but apparently this president, a smart and decent soul but still a politician, needs to be reminded that Shell, or any other fossil fuel pirate, will never be prepared to insure that the Shuksi will be safe. Deep sea oil drilling is a recurring nightmare, Mr President. Do your job.

  • Mayor Schaaf: Say no to dirty coal on Oakland's waterfront
As Big Coal’s profits are squeezed by closures of coal-fired power plants across the U.S. and new EPA pollution rules, the companies are looking for ways to ship coal to foreign markets. After activists stopped coal export-terminal proposals in Oregon and Washington, the coal industry has turned its sights on California’s ports and marine terminals. Now Oakland is in Big Coal’s crosshairs. Developers are pursuing an export terminal on city-owned land along the Oakland waterfront and have been quietly soliciting a partnership with four Utah counties to allow them to export five to six million tons of Utah coal out of Oakland each year. Public land should be used for the public good — not for a dirty export project that would worsen local air quality and threaten climate stability. Coal is bad for the climate, community and worker health, and the environment, and both Oakland and California have standing policies opposing the export of dirty energy. California has worked hard to be a coal-free state, and it should stay that way! Join community groups, businesses, faith based groups, and community leaders in opposing this toxic proposal!

  • Ban use of neonics, glyphosates, RoundUp and others like it in all of Oregon
We need to ban the use of this poison. I have an organic garden and Certified Wildlife Habitat and have been seeing the dying of bees on my flowers. Organic growing needs protection from the pesticide, herbicide, and other poisons people use on their lawns and driveways. Living near a watershed, the Willamette River and other waterways, I see the need to protect the land and water from glyphosates, neonics. Please consider the wildlife and stop the spraying. Just a couple of weeks ago, the county sprayed along the Trolley Trail in Milwaukie, Oregon, killing the foliage all along a trail frequented by hikers, dogs, children, and the people who live along that trail. This is inconsiderate poisoning of the environment without permission to do so.

  • Ban the use and sale of microbeads
Did you know that a single tube of face wash can contain over 330,000 microbeads and well over 1,000 personal cleansing products contain microbeads? Several studies have shown that microbeads absorb pesticides and other toxic chemicals as they go down the drain. Most treatment plants do not have filters that are fine enough to filter and capture these 0.5mm beads, causing them to slip through and into our waterways. This is causing fish, birds, and other animals to mistake these beads for food, which leads to them ingest these plastics–bringing these microbeads to our plates. This is an extremely dangerous matter that is allegedly good for the skin, but is an extremely alarming issue that is and will continue to impact our oceans and environment. We do not have the technology, manpower or equipment to easily remove these 0.5mm beads from our oceans and as of right now, the problem is just continuing to grow. The State of California and New York recently passed legislation prohibiting the production, manufacture, distribution, and sale of products containing plastic beads fewer than 5 millimeters in size. The Wisconsin Legislature and several members of Congress have also introduced similar bills this year. I need your help in making sure we keep our water ways clean and healthy!

  • Senator McCaskill: Don't derail the Clean Power Plan!
The national Clean Power Plan will put limits on carbon pollution from power plants for the first time. The policy will save lives by reducing dangerous air pollution that triggers asthma and other respiratory diseases. But dirty energy interests, together with their allies in Congress, are aggressively working to derail it. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is expected to push legislation in the U.S. Senate soon to delay adoption of the new carbon pollution limits for a year or more. His ultimate goal is to kill the Clean Power Plan altogether. Senator McCaskill is under heavy pressure to vote for Senate legislation to postpone the shift to clean energy our kids need and deserve. Given the current and growing threat posed by climate change, delaying action is a high risk gamble with our children’s future. Missouri is already feeling the impacts of climate change, and kids living near coal-fired power plants are suffering from high rates of asthma. Recent scientific studies estimate that the Clean Power Plan will save thousands of lives per year, and prevent 150,000 asthma attacks. So the sooner limits are placed on carbon pollution from power plants, the sooner asthma and other diseases linked to power plant pollution will be reduced. In addition to combating climate change and air pollution, the Clean Power Plan will help boost the rapidly growing clean energy economy. A recent study found that the Clean Power Plan will help generate nearly 300,000 new solar, wind and other clean energy jobs in Missouri and throughout the country. The sooner the Clean Power Plan is implemented, the sooner Missouri will expand investments in the kid safe, climate safe energy. The only beneficiary of delaying the Clean Power Plan would be big polluters, who could continue dumping unlimited carbon pollution into our air for a year or longer. Let’s send Senator McCaskill a clear message to put the interests of our kids and climate before polluters. Ask Senator McCaskill to support adoption of the Clean Power Plan right away, without delay. Thank you for taking action!
