• Stop the Dallas Trinity Parkway Boondoggle
The Trinity Parkway tollroad, a nine-mile urban highway through the heart of Dallas, would have a minimal impact on congestion while detracting from popular, ongoing efforts to make downtown Dallas an attractive place to live and work. Tell Dallas City Council to reject this wasteful highway boondoggle project and invest more efficiently in maintenance and other modes of transportation that would make Dallas an even better place to live.

  • Hybrid buses for Potrero Hill
Residents of Potrero Hill are already affected by pollution from both the 101 and 280 freeways. The city and Muni should prioritize allocation of newly purchased hybrid buses to Potrero Hill.

  • Require property owners to allow tenants to dry their clothes outside on their balconies and patios!
Many owners of apartment complexes forbid tenants to hang their clothes outside to dry because they think "it doesn't look nice". But our concern as a community should be "how can I cut down my energy use to save the planet?" Hanging clothes outside to dry is economical and uses no energy. Everyone should be able to use the sun and the wind to dry their clothes if they choose. It's time to get rid of this archaic lease term!

  • Stop the Kinder Morgan/Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co. Northeast Energy Direct Project
We do not need it! You have a done a good job in advancing the use of renewable energy sources in our state. There is more than enough gas-pipeline capacity to meet our domestic electricity needs here in Massachusetts, especially given our energy efficiency programs, a fact backed up by reports commissioned by NESCOE. The Low Demand Scenario outlined in the Black & Veatch study has NOT been investigated as an option, an omission I urge you to remedy. Do not mar your track record.

  • Declare a World War on Climate Change ("WW2C")
We simply can't afford to wait: the risks to our world are just too great. Obama has just one year left to tackle this problem but the stranglehold of the people/corporations/lobbyists who would prevent us from defending ourselves from this threat make a political response impossible. It is the sworn duty of the President to defend America from enemies and climate deniers must be seen as being the (self-serving) enemy of the state that they really are. Declaring "war" generates enormous economic potential, so let's also kick-start our economy by gearing up solar manufacturing here, research and development for "good" (LFTR) nuclear and training our troops not to kill but to deploy solar panels everywhere. With this war we can: 1) Move our country and our partner countries quickly into a collective clean energy future; 2) Defeat the fossil fuel hegemony that will kill our planet for profit; 3) End the increase in carbon emissions and rapidly decrease global emissions to allow our climate to stabilize; 4) Rapidly de-fund Middle East terrorists who benefit from our need for oil and our revenues; 5) Build a military that has the skills that are needed in the clean energy work force of the future and 6) Fund the R&D necessary to expedite the technologies that enable us to further mitigate and adapt to the amount of climate change that is already under way.

  • Restore Clean Water Act Protections!
The EPA's proposed rule to restore protections to waters of the United States would clarify and establish protections for OVER HALF of the country's rivers, streams, and wetlands. Clean water is critical to public health, recreation, and the economy!

  • Tell Starbucks: Switch to organic milk
Starbucks buys nearly 100 million gallons of milk each year -- most of it from cows raised in cruel conditions in factory-farms. These cows are fed chemically-treated alfalfa and GMO crops like soy and corn, which have been engineered to withstand huge doses of herbicides. And, most corn and soy seeds are pre-treated with bee-killing pesticides. But there is a better alternative. Demand that Starbucks serve organic milk!

  • Tell Durbin to Protect Lake Michigan!
Millions of Illinoisans spend their summers basking on Lake Michigan's shore and rely on it for drinking water. Yet the Lake continues to be treated like a personal sewer for the region’s largest polluters.

  • American Progressive Bag Alliance: Don’t fight to repeal California’s plastic bag ban
The ink from Jerry Brown's signature is barely dry, but some in the plastics industry are already threatening to repeal the new law that bans single-use plastic bags in California. This isn’t anything new. For eight long years, some in the industry have blocked the bills Environment California fought for and introduced at the local and state level. But we have prevailed, and today, 127 cities and towns—40% of the state—is living bag free. Our statewide bill has just become law. Instead of adapting to become a better steward of the environment, now some in the industry are saying they want to put the law on the ballot and repeal it. Together, we can keep them from overturning this monumental victory for keeping plastic out of the Pacific. But it’s going to take all of us weighing in.

  • Gov Brown: Thank you for banning plastic bags in California
Over 100,000 tons of single-use plastic bags are thrown out each year—in California alone. Those bags end up in the beaches, rivers, and other open spaces, causing harm to wildlife and marring the landscape. But, thanks to a new law signed by California governor Jerry Brown, single-use plastic bags will be banned in the state starting next July. Governor Brown’s actions create a safer environment for California, from the turtles and seabirds who regularly mistake these bags for food, to the Pacific, where toxic chemicals leak from the plastic and pollute the ocean, to the volunteers who work tirelessly to clean the bags from beaches and parks. Join me in thanking Governor Brown for making the right choice for Californians and becoming a leader in the fight to ban plastic bags across the country.

  • Prevent WI & Great Lakes Ruin--Stop Mining, Nuclear/Haz Waste Import
I'm starting this petition because All People, and industries depend on the clean water for survival and recreation. I am a Wisconsin artist. Like many, I enjoy fish, wildlife, and the beauty and tranquility of the great out doors. The proposed GTAC mine in Wisconsin's pristine Penokee Mountains near Lake Superior and the Bad River Indian Reservation threatens WI, the Great Lakes bio-region, Native wild-rice-culture, and regional health. We have a responsibility to ourselves and future generations to protect the "commonwealth" of air, forests, land, waters and Life. "Treasures out & waste in" is a recipe for perpetual poisoning. Mining, and nuclear/hazardous waste trade for profit and jobs cannot justify the ruin of Life & Life sustaining resources for eons to come.
