• Tell Congress: End the Ivory Trade!
Every 15 minutes an elephant is killed for its ivory. That’s over 30,000 a year. The illegal ivory trade is a cruel business. But it’s much more than that. Illegal ivory generates up to $10 billion a year for criminal and terrorists organizations. Crime syndicates involved in gun, drug, and human trafficking reap huge profits from the ivory trade. So do dangerous terrorist groups, including Joseph Kony’s Lord’s Resistance Army and al-Qaeda-affiliated Al-Shabaab. These terrorists threaten the safety and stability of Africa and the national security of the United States. Ivory smugglers thrive with the complicity of local authorities who have little incentive to stop them. Although the trade is outlawed, lax enforcement and bribes make it easy for smugglers to operate. It’s time for America to send a message: any country that facilitates the ivory trade will pay an economic price. I’ve introduced legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives that would do just that, and I hope you’ll lend it your support. The Targeted Use of Sanctions for Killing Elephants in their Range (TUSKER) Act would impose trade sanctions on countries found to be complicit in facilitating ivory trade. With the TUSKER Act, local authorities would face a new calculus when dealing with ivory smugglers: either you enforce the law, or you face the fallout of tough economic sanctions. Sign the petition: tell Congress it’s time to pass the TUSKER Act and shut down the ivory trade! Thank you for taking action. Peter DeFazio

  • Bring New Jersey back into the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative!
People are taking to the streets by the tens of thousands to demand elected leaders act quickly to stop global climate change -- but some politicians just aren’t listening. Governor Chris Christie yanked NJ from a regional program that reduces climate changing pollution. The courts have called it an illegal stunt, and recently legislators in Trenton started a process that could reverse it. The best part? Christie won't even be able to veto it. New Jersey has already felt the effects climate change through the devastation of Superstorm Sandy. We should be on the front lines of this fight. If Chris Christie won’t show leadership on this issue, our legislators have to step up and do the right thing for our state and our planet.

  • DECLARE JAPAN'S FUKUSHIMA MELTDOWNS A "LEVEL 8" NUCLEAR DISASTER
The four nuclear reactors devastated by the earthquake and tsunami in March of 2011 continue to pose a grave risk to people and the environment around the entire world. An unprecedented three reactor cores have melted down into (and most likely through) their containment vessels on the east coast of Japan.

After three years of questionable management and oversight by the government of Japan and Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), enormous quantities of radioactive releases continue to spew daily into the world's ocean from the Fukushima nuclear power facility—with no end in sight.

A new, international “Level 8" category must be added to the International Atomic Energy Agency’s current 7-level scale that characterizes the severity of nuclear accidents. This new “Level 8" would firmly identify the need for an internationally coordinated response to a major nuclear emergency occurring in any country that has been overwhelmed by disaster, has had a multi-unit accident, or has failed to provide the timely expertise and resources necessary to protect neighboring countries and the global environment from a substantial, ongoing or imminent release of radioactive materials.

Please sign the petition and spread the link widely to help mobilize a global response.

  • Stop subsidizing cattle grazing on public lands!
On a recent hike to Kennedy Meadows, instead of the pristine trout creek we expected, Kennedy Creek was lined with thousands of steaming piles of cow dung, swarms of black flies, cow-trampled banks and waterways and green algae-filled water. Instead of what should have been lush, wildflower-strewn meadows at Kennedy Lake, we sunk into a green quagmire of muck created by a steady stream of cows cooling themselves in the shallows. Backpackers we met made the same complaint. This is no way to run a public forest.

  • Stop the Unnecessary Logging of Our Forest!
HELP SAVE OUR FOREST FROM DESTRUCTION. The Forest Service is logging our local forests with an ill-conceived plan under the name of fire mitigation. This plan will not only destroy wildlife habitat, wreak destruction on scenic beauty, eliminate sound, sight, and wind buffers in neighborhoods, and cause plummeting home values, but will also INCREASE fire risk. While it may open up some views, from a distance, imagine how devastated you would feel to have a forest clearcut right up to your property boundaries. You would no longer see the usual wildlife in your yard, the birds would disappear from your feeders, and that quiet morning walk in the woods would be a thing of the past. One recent clearcut is adjacent to Susan W.'s property -- ask her if you want to know how these cuts have affected the wildlife, birds, and quality of life for her and her neighbors. Please sign our petition to demand a stop to this poorly planned project. Share it with your friends, particularly those in the area (Boulder County, Gilpin County, Denver, and surrounds). Thank you for signing.

  • Boycott public range beef
Dear Wildlife advocates, Please! Do not sign this petition unless you can be 100% committed to boycotting all beef unless it is raised on private ranches. In doing so you commit yourself to supporting all wildlife on our public lands. You may Fax your statement in or call 866-BEEF-USA.WASHINGTON, D.C. 1301 Pennsylvania Avenue NW Suite 300 Washington, D.C. 20004 (202) 347-0228 Fax: (202) 638-0607 - See more at: http://www.beefusa.org/ContactUS.aspx#sthash.bML822Ro.dpuf Please send to your contacts as well as organizations. Perhaps this can change their minds. Thank you, Sincerely, Lorna Moffat 831-644-6160 To the National Cattleman' s Beef Association, We , the undersigned , are committed to joining onto this beef boycott in order to support all the wildlife throughout America that is being killed because of the all out attempt to kill, maim, and poison all competitive lifeforms on public lands that threaten livestock, either through competitive grazing or predatorship of livestock. The removal of wild horses from their lawful designated Herd Management Areas, as well as the natural predators that keep their populations under control is no longer acceptable to me as a consumer, and therefore I commit to boycotting all forms of beef except ranchers who keep their herds (and are certified of doing so) within their privately owned properties. As your foundation states below, you are supposed to be committed to Environmental Stewardship. This is clearly not being done, and as a result Americans must use whatever non-violent means to stop the destruction of our wildlife populations now being witnessed from the removal of bison, wild horses, and burros, to every other life form that competes with grazing or livestock encroachments. Your organizations does this through heavy lobbying in the Halls of Congress, reaping favoritism of our representatives which we the public cannot compete with. We commit to the keeping of this boycott until our wild horses and burros are returned to their lawful Herd Management Areas (HMAs) and predators that keep their numbers controlled are allowed to dwell amoung them as is required under The National Environmental Protection Act and The Wild Free Roaming Horse and Burro Act of 1971. Therefore be it known to all concerned that I sign my name and honor to this petition. I want it to be known that I shall boycott all forms of beef except that stated above until a viable change is made and our wildlife is allowed to return to their rightful places upon our public lands and your commitment to your pledge below is fulfilled. Sincerely, The National Cattlemen Beef Association Mission statement below does not reflect what they are doing on our public lands. The National Cattlemen Beef Association Mission statement. • United Airlines- Stop Carriage of Shark Fins
Shark populations are being overfished worldwide. The trade of shark fin in illegal, unregulated and unreported fisheries for the delicacy shark fin soup is causing shark populations to decline critically worldwide. The tons of shark fins transported as cargo into Hong Kong on United Airlines flights is directly leading to the endangerment of shark species and the marine environment in the Americas, Asia and beyond.
