Every time I go to the Rite Aid in my neighborhood, I see a person ahead of me in line handed a plastic bag carrying one item: sometimes a toothbrush or a greeting card that would fit easily into their purse or backpack is even double-bagged. When it's my turn in line, I have to be vigilant to make sure the cashier doesn't give me a bag for one item, or that they let me place multiple items in the bag I carry with me before they automatically bag my purchases. Unneeded plastic bags waste valuable resources: for one thing, 12 million barrels of oil are used in their production each year, according to the Wall Street Journal. And they contribute to the vast amount of trash removed from the places we live every day, which require fossil fuels to transport. Plastic bag litter harms numerous species in our environment. Plastic bags are not free because they cost taxpayers millions of dollars in litter cleanup and trash removal. This is something we can change with a simple shift in the policy and training of employees so that they can ask customers, "Would you like a bag?" Some might say they re-use the bags. I re-use them myself, but even with trying to reduce the number I use all the time, I have never once run out or needed to purchase trash bags. According to the Natural Resources Defense Council, the average American family takes home 1,500 plastic shopping bags a year. In addition, a tiny portion of these plastic bags are recycled-- less than 5%, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. This is a place where drugstores across the country can take leadership very easily and make an impact.

I live in the condo across the street. My bedroom is less than 100 feet from the proposed tower site. As a home owner, I cannot get out of this tower's path. I already suffer from EMFs with daily headaches when I talk on a cell phone for longer than 5 minutes. If this tower is constructed, I might as well stick my head in a microwave! Please help!

We have nearly all seen videos of explosive train wrecks during transportation of this highly volatile crude oil. We have nearly all seen the videos of tap water from private water wells catching on fire. The technology needed to extract the oil and gas is proven, but the techniques are causing massive contamination and dangerous transportation.

Further, the fact that this facility would be located proximate to Lakeshore High School is unacceptable. Our environment and health, especially the health of our children must be protected, and this facility must be stopped.

There are too many people that are being unnecessarily subjected to a neighbor's burning. Some have been admitted to a hospital due to the smoke that enters their home. Speaking to a neighbor generally leads to 'bully burning' which makes the situation even worse. We all know that climate change is adding to the already pollutant saturated air that we are forced to breathe and adding continual wood smoke to the mix is making life miserable for so many people. Some try to sell their homes to move away from burners but find that it is next to impossible to sell their home when it is surrounded with wood smoke. Please consider banning all residential burning and help those that cannot find a way to end the smoke. Everyone should have the right to breathe clean air, especially in their own homes.

Should this rezoning be passed, Eastwood residents will suffer loss of open green space, depreciating home values, and increased trips per day of non-resident traffic in the community. We are also concerned about the impact this commercial development will have on our wildlife, groundwater and air quality; not to mention the safety and security of our homes and families. The adverse impact on the neighborhood and the environment of losing that much open land far outweighs the benefits of developing the property.

Santa Feans are ready to make the transition to a clean energy economy. While our investor-owned utility is proposing deeper investments in coal and nuclear, this Ordinance will allow Santa Fe to pursue leading edge innovations in energy efficiency, renewable energy and related economic development. Public power will create energy choice and the opportunity to reinvest electricity dollars back into the local economy. Public power will improve the quality of life and economy in Santa Fe as well as advance national efforts to address climate change, reduce pollution from coal burning and promote sustainable economic growth. Santa Fe will serve as an example for other communities throughout New Mexico as well as the nation as we reclaim control over our energy future thereby enabling us to aggressively pursue the benefits of a new energy economy.

LA RICS (LA Regional Interoperability Communications System) is implementing via Federal Stimulus Funds, $150,000,000 worth of military grade, super high powered, cell towers with increased frequencies and surveillance capabilities that will saturate 97% of Los Angeles and will harm and kill both wildlife and people in addition to devalue property wherever they are placed. This new "upgraded" cell tower system is being implemented with zero public input or hearings and overriding all environmental impact rules, regulations and laws. We do not need more powerful microwaves assaulting ourselves and our environment! Human and environmental life and residential and commercial property value are being ignored in the name of "Homeland Security, The Patriot Act, emergency responders and public safety." Do not ignore public health and safety in the name of public health and safety! Stop accepting "blood money" from the Federal government that overrides public and environmental health and safety and will add yet one more layer of surveillance to an already heavily surveilled populous!!
