  • Say No to Taller Utility Poles
Taller utility poles affect the view plane and beauty of many Oahu neighborhoods, and decrease property values. There are strong concerns that these 60 - 70 ft. poles are less safe in adverse weather conditions. Taller poles cause more visual pollution and are not in keeping with Hawaii's Constitution which states that the State and its political subdivisions shall conserve and protect Hawaii’s natural beauty.

  • Starbucks: Change from Plastic to Compostable
There are thousands of Starbucks stores in the world, and every day, millions of people people buy cold drinks in plastic cups with plastic straws and throw them in the trash. This creates thousands of tons of plastic waste per year, contributing to our mounting global pollution and climate change problems - even when the plastic is recycled. I love my iced coffee drinks, and I would like to enjoy them without feeling guilty about waste!

  • Save the Bees
This week, Oregon officials reported a pesticide is to blame for the deaths of tens of thousands of bumble bees. If we wish to have any bees left at all, drastic cut backs on insecticides will have to be made mandatory. Otherwise we could find our food supply at great risk.

  • Support California Fracking Moratorium.
Effects of injecting trillions of gallons of fresh water and billions of gallons of toxic chemicals at a high pressure into the ground are unknown. Hence a moratorium on fracking is mandatory until its threats and mitigation are studied scientifically.

  • Say No to Coal in Northern Cheyenne Homelands!
Stand with us to protect the Northern Cheyenne homelands. Minnesota Power is planning to purchase coal from Otter Creek, which is an area that historically has been used by Native American tribes including the Northern Cheyenne and Crow. This coalmine will have numerous impacts to the land, wildlife, water, and air, and ultimately, it will destroy sacred sites. The use of the coal would release 2.5 billion tons of carbon dioxide into our atmosphere. This petition was created by Honor the Earth. • Mayor Rawlings and Dallas City Council: Stop Plastic Pollution and Ban the Bag
Plastic bags litter the Trinity River, White Rock Lake and the city’s streets; they're blowing around Dallas' parks and neighborhoods; they're clogging our sewage and wastewater systems — and they're never going to biodegrade. Dallas uses millions of plastic grocery bags every year. They trash our parks, waters and city streets. And once they get into the city’s environment, plastic bags kill animals like birds, discourage potential investment, and cost the city hundreds of thousands of dollars to clean up. We can't let something as unnecessary and wasteful as disposable grocery bags plague Dallas' cityscape and waste our natural resources. Luckily, the solution is simple: Dallas can be an environmental leader by banning disposable plastic checkout bags so people can use reusable ones instead. Dallas Council Member Dwaine Caraway has proposed a ban on plastic bags and we need to show the Mayor and council that the public supports this!

  • Ban the use of harmful pesticides that are decimating our bee population.
A class of neuroactive insecticides known as neonicotinoids are destroying our planet's bee population. We ask for the United States government to ban the use of these dangerous pesticides, which are already banned in Europe. These neonicotinoid pesticides are decimating our planet's bee population - as much as 90% in some places. If left unchecked, they could destroy our world’s ability to grow enough food to feed its population. We call for the Obama administration, United States Congress, and the EPA to ban the use of neonicotinoid pesticides and protect our bees. These harmful pesticides are also poisoning other animals, and the toxic effects are bound to affect human beings. According to a study performed by the American Bird Conservancy, neonicotinoids are lethal to birds and to the aquatic systems on which they depend. A single corn kernel coated with a neonicotinoid can kill a songbird. These studies represent the canary in the coal mine. Who knows what the long term effects on our children are going to be? Would you help protect the health of our children and the environment for future generations?

  • Support a global warming plan for Rhode Island
Recently, environmental leaders in the Rhode Island General Assembly have pushed forward a bill that would rein in greenhouse gas emissions to levels consistent with what science says we need to reach to avoid the worst effects of global warming. But to get the bill over the finish line in the last weeks of the legislative session, we'll need Rhode Islanders all over the state to weigh in with their representatives. Send a message to your state rep and senator: Support the Climate Solutions Act.

  • Tell big banks and major investors to stop financing forest destruction!
The fastest-growing cause of deforestation across the tropics is the massive growth of palm oil plantations. One company -- Wilmar International -- produces nearly half of the world’s palm oil. And Wilmar may be using your money to fuel its path of destruction. In the United States, palm oil is in about half of our packaged foods and cosmetics. Why? Because it’s cheap. What makes it cheap? Global companies are taking over huge swaths of land, wreaking havoc on the environment, and ignoring human rights, all in the name of keeping costs down. Among the biggest U.S. financiers of Wilmar are the nation’s largest banks, pension funds and asset managers. To save the world’s forests, we need to get our money out of palm oil.

  • Wind isn’t Working
I moved to New Hampshire from densely populated urban centers around Boston and New York, especially to get away from crowded, dirty cities and urban sprawl. Although am a devout environmentalist, my first view of a 400-foot wind turbine in the woods did not make me happy – it made me sick. We have very little wilderness left – we don’t need industrial wind parks in the forest.
