Gov. Quinn, Don't Frack Us!Gov. Quinn should say "no" to the unenforceable, inadequate fracking regulations in HB2615. The oil and gas industry has a very long history of cutting corners and skimping on safety. Regulations are worthless if they are not enforced. HB2615 has too many gaping holes in it to protect Illinois. The safety of Illinoisans is as important as that of New Yorkers: we deserve a moratorium on fracking and an investigative task force just like New York has enacted! Gov. Quinn should say "no" to unenforceable regulations and "yes" to a moratorium on fracking, HB3086, and SB1418!139 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Lora Chamberlain

Keep solar power accessible to low-income familiesMaking housing affordable for California families isn’t just about lowering rent or mortgage payments. As a percentage of their income, low-income families spend four times as much on utilities as the average American family, and yet have the least access to technologies that can lower their bills and help keep them in their homes. California has made tremendous progress in the last five years toward making clean, affordable solar power accessible to all who want it. Since 2009, California’s groundbreaking low-income solar programs have helped thousands of families reap the benefits of rooftop solar, while promoting energy efficiency and supporting clean energy job training. But these programs are about to expire. If we don't act today, low-income families will be left behind. A bill to extend these important efforts is facing two critical votes in the senate in the next couple of weeks. Help ensure that all California families continue to have access to this money-saving, renewable energy source by asking your legislator to support the Equitable Access to Solar Energy bill (AB217).1,808 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Julian Foley

Lake Michigan / Huron critical water level.Lakes Michigan & Huron are at record low water levels. Most of the drop is being caused by the lack of ice during the winter, and the overall lack of rainfall. There is a third cause which is the dredging of the St Clair River which caused severe bottom eroding and now allows huge amounts of water to pass out of the lakes. It is estimated that the St Clair dredging accounts for 15" - 17 " of the water level drop. Property owners, boaters, swimmers, fisherman, marinas and the entire population surrounding the 2 lakes are being severely affected by the conditions. The US Govt, and the Corp of Engineers needs to impliment corrective actions immediately and stop the outflow of water.2 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Bob Gruen

STOP SB633 - SAVE LOCAL CONTROL OVER GMO AGRICULTUREOregon Bill Would Bar Local GE/GMO Policies Although Washington is getting a lot of buzz on its labeling bill, Oregon is also a hotbed of activity in the fight against genetically engineered (GE) crops. Citizens in Jackson County (in Southern Oregon) have successfully achieved getting a GE crop ban on the May 2014 ballot. Citizens in four other Oregon counties are also hard at work on similar county GE crop bans. These local policies have been instrumental in eliminating genetically engineered crops in other states. Several counties and cities in California, Hawaii, Washington, and Maine have already adopted policies to ban the growing of GE crops in their counties. Oregon counties should be allowed the same level of local control as these other states. But local policies such as these are now in jeopardy in Oregon due to a biotech industry-backed bill in the Oregon Senate. The bill, Senate Bill 633, would strip counties in Oregon of their abilities to craft appropriate county-wide seed policies. SB 633 would give exclusive regulatory power over seeds, and products of agricultural seed, to the state, preempting local authority. This would make it impossible to establish local policies which put restrictions or prohibitions on genetically engineered crops. The bill is being heard in the Senate Committee for Rural Policy and Economic Development on March 12th, so please take action today! Tell your state Senator to oppose this bill!4,834 of 5,000 SignaturesCreated by Brian Comnes

Plastic Bag BanPlastic bags are non biodegradable. They can be harmful to animals, wildlife and the environment. Americans throw away almost 100 billion plastic bags every year, and only 1 percent to 3 percent are ever recycled. These disposable, toxic bags are an environmental hazard and a consumer of oil.19 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Brittany Breedlove

Massachusetts's Gov. Patrick: Demand Immediate shutdown/NRC investigation Of Pilgrim Nuclear Plan...Entergy-Pilgrim nuclear power plant two years ago bought four brand new and really expensive "Safety Relief Valves". Two of these valves have already forced shutdowns, another one was leaking and restricted power at 80% when Nor'easter Nemo tripped the plant. I uncovered the forth valve leak and another power restriction of 94% though a troubled plant insider. We are all threatened with an ineffective Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Stop the Rush to Fracking in IllinoisThe staff at the IL Dept. of Natural Resources have written their administrative rules for enforcing the scary Hydraulic Fracturing Regulatory Act passed by the Illinois General Assembly last May. But the IDNR rules stray from the original law in many places, all in the same direction -- of favoring the oil and gas companies. The rules have reduced the fines for violating regulations from what they were in the law to just nominal amounts, some less than a speeding ticket in IL. Now companies can violate the rules and only have to pay a $50 fine for perjury, for example, whereas in the law, perjury is a class IV felony. With these massive reductions in sanctions for violations of the law, the "regulatory law" has been eviscerated. During the public "comment period" on these rules the people of IL submitted over 32,000 written comments, the vast majority being very critical of the rules. We need to stop the rush to fracking in Illinois. We need time to assess what the real costs will be to our health and our environment from this highly industrialized fracking process. Call Gov. Pat Quinn (217) 782-0244 and Attorney General Lisa Madigan (217 782-1090 to urge them to Stop the Rush to Fracking.805 of 1,000 SignaturesCreated by Barbara Heyl

POWER THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA WITH CLEAN/RENEWABLE ENERGY WITHIN 5 TO 10 YEARSCitizens of the United States are at serious risk of widespread contamination of their drinking-water aquifers and water wells from fracking and the leaking of oil-pipelines. Let cities ban the bag and stop plastic pollutionOn Mar. 5, Rep. Drew Springer of Muenster, Texas filed HB 2416 to stop Austin and other cities from prohibiting plastic bags. The same bags we use to help us move groceries for a few minutes end up polluting our environment for hundreds of years. They sit in landfills, litter streets, choke wildlife and clog our streams. This is why Austin, Brownsville, Fort Stockton and South Padre Island have passed ordinances restricting single use plastic bags. Banning these wasteful bags and making the transition to reusable bags will significantly cut down on the amount of trash our cities produce, protect wildlife and keep our waterways cleaner. We support Texas cities' responsible choice to ban disposable bags. Nothing we use for a few minutes should pollute our environment for hundreds. It just makes sense. The Legislature should reject this bill and let cities decide for themselves how to handle solid waste.254 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Luke Metzger
