• Funding to Sodexo's Mānoa Dining Services for reusable container system at UH Mānoa
According to a 2017 campus waste audit, 740 pounds of waste were sourced from the Queen Liliʻuokalani Center for Student Services, Architecture, and Business Administration buildings alone. By volume, take-out containers were one-third (34%) of that waste, nearly 250 gallons! Of all take-out food and drink containers, 32% were plastic food containers alone. To combat the growing waste consumption, particularly in plastic take-out containers, we are calling for the funding for an OZZI system and reusable food containers. This system allows for the reduction of landfill waste, saves waste hauling costs, eliminates paper and foam containers, and cuts down on staff interaction. “OZZI is at the forefront of sustainability with a patented, comprehensive food collection system for replacing disposables. It creates accountability and making a collective difference to the sustainable accumulation of waste developing around the world.” For more information, visit the website: https://www.planetozzi.com/solutions#ozzisys. In an ASUH Sustainability Survey, approximately 97% of students who responded believed that UH should prioritize and support sustainability on campus. Sign the petition to show your support for a reusable container system on the campus!

  • Protect the Sonoran Desert Tortoise from Extinction!
The Sonoran desert tortoise is a newly recognized species of tortoise found in the desert scrub habitats in Arizona and Mexico, east and south of the Colorado River. In 2010, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service found in a preliminary assessment the tortoise was warranted for endangered species act protections. In 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014 further reviews reaffirmed the warranted finding. Despite the findings, in 2015 the Service reversed its position and denied protections for the Sonoran desert tortoise. These unique desert animals need legal protections to escape extinction. The Western Environmental Law Center is a nonprofit, public-interest environmental law firm and our expert attorneys will use the full power of the law to take the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to court to force the agency to reconsider its ill-informed decision to not list the Sonoran desert tortoise under the Endangered Species Act.

  • Protect the immigrant workers who rebuild our homes after climate disasters
My name is Saket Soni. I’m an organizer on the frontlines of recovery from climate disaster and work with a group called Resilience Force. We fight to protect the workers who rebuild our homes and communities. Hundreds of thousands of these workers are immigrants. As publications like the New York Times and Gizmodo have reported, these immigrant resilience workers face dangerous working conditions, homelessness, abuse, and attacks by immigration enforcers with no oversight—even as they work to help us all come home. In 2020, we need a president who will protect our resilience workforce: the people who make our recovery possible. TELL THESE CANDIDATES to pledge to give America’s resilience workers: • Dignity at work including safe working conditions and a living wage • Freedom from fear of deportation as they work to help local residents come home, and • Full citizenship in the America they’re rebuilding after climate disasters

  • Providing Recycling Options at Suffolk County Campgrounds
An accessible clean water source isn't always an option at Suffolk County campgrounds, so plastic water bottles, paper plates, aluminum tins, etc, are commonly used. Pollution has become a major issue when it comes to keeping our planet clean and safe. However, recycling single-use products such as those listed above would keep them out of landfills, nature, and oceans and reduce the waste we leave behind.

  • Let's get rid of plastic utensils at Campolindo
Campolindo buys more than 20,000 plastic utensils per school year, resulting in mass amounts of plastic waste produced by students every day. The time has come for us to take action on the environmental issues we face today. By signing this petition started by the Campolindo Zero Waste Club, you can support the eco-friendly movement and help reduce plastic in our oceans.

  • Preserve the Preserves
We cannot continue to destroy habitats to fit the lives of only humans. We need to devise a plan which considers the entire ecosystem. At least transplant it around new developments. Environmental groups need to be involved.

  • NJDEP DENY Permits for NESE
Please sign and share: The NJDEP was to decide on the permits for Williams -Transco's proposed Northeast Supply Enhancement (NESE) Project on Oct 25th BUT Williams- Transco withdrew 3 applications and asked for an extension on the other. The NESE Projects includes a new gas-powered gas Compressor Station (—the most polluting type—in Franklin near South Brunswick & Princeton- in an active blasting zone, in a wooded area, where there is very low water pressure and no functioning fire hydrants) and a 23-mile Pipeline Expansion underneath the Raritan Bay and Lower New York Harbor (the construction project will dredge up industrial toxins like arsenic, lead, zinc and mercury and organic compounds PCBs, DDT, and dioxins that have been buried under the seabed for decades.) If Governor Murphy and The NJDEPare serious about stopping the greenhouse gas pollution that’s driving us towards irreversible Climate Catastrophe, the choice is clear. We are well beyond the point where we can let the greed of the fossil fuel industry halt our transition to 100% clean renewable energy.

  • DRBC, Reject PennEast and Close the File
We've started this petition to gather individual signatures to accompany a letter that organizations opposing the PennEast pipeline have written and are preparing to submit. Here is the letter in full: Dear DRBC Commissioners, It is time for the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) to act on the PennEast pipeline! It’s time to REJECT the project and CLOSE the file. The actions you take and the decisions you make regarding the PennEast pipeline are setting precedent for every other pipeline to follow. New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware waterways, the natural landscapes that dictate the health of their water resources, and all of the communities that depend on healthy waters, healthy forests, and the healthy economies that healthy waterways and ecosystems provide -- are being hard hit by the onslaught of fracked gas pipelines emanating from the fracking shale fields. It has been over 3 ½ years since the PennEast pipeline company filed its application with the DRBC. Since that time organizations, communities, along with their experts, have documented the false, misleading and missing information in the PennEast application materials; we have demonstrated the irreparable harm that PennEast would inflict if constructed; there have been significant route changes; and a federal court ruling has upheld the right of the state of New Jersey to deny PennEast the power of eminent domain to take and/or infringe on its property rights which will necessarily result in a new round of route changes. All the while, the devastating impacts of climate change – a human-induced catastrophe in large part driven by fracking and their pipelines – including on communities, environments, and water resources are growing at an unprecedented and soon to be unstoppable rate. It is time for the Delaware River Basin Commission to make clear it has jurisdiction over the entire pipeline right of way (every square inch and every impacted resource) and then to step up and deny a docket to the PennEast pipeline. At this time when the federal government is working hard to reduce the authority that states have to protect their water resources, and given the massive explosion of gas drilling and associated infrastructure, the role of the Delaware River Basin Commission to protect the water resources of our region is more important than ever. It is no longer legally appropriate, nor morally defensible, for you to continue to keep the application file open and leave communities and natural resources across the basin threatened with harm from the ever-present PennEast-axe hanging over our heads.

  • San Leandro Climate Emergency Resolution
San Leandro has felt the impacts of climate change firsthand, including drought, pollution, and rising ocean waters, and if no mitigating action is taken within the next decade our future will be in jeopardy. Fight with us to demand Mayor Cutter take the following bold, immediate actions: (1) Update the City’s Climate Action Plan without further delay and begin implementation immediately; (2) Join the rapidly emerging regional mobilization for a just transition to a sustainable economy, and; (3) Acknowledge the urgency of the climate crisis by issuing a formal declaration of a citywide climate emergency. Declare a citywide emergency to protect our environment.

  • Tell 2020 candidates to show up for the Climate Strike on 9/20
The US Youth Climate Strike, Sunrise Movement, 350.org, and many others have been among those leading the climate movement in the United States. While we continue to support calls for a climate debate, we must recognize other opportunities to speak out about the climate crisis. The CNN town hall on climate was a good first step. All candidates should also participate in the MSNBC town hall. However, knowing there are Climate Strike events all over the country means every candidate will have an opportunity to step off the political stage and instead join the grassroots movement in solidarity. We can't wait until after the 2020 elections to start tackling the existential crisis facing human life on this planet. We have to mobilize now. Tell the 2020 candidates to make plans to join a Climate Strike event this Friday. MoveOn.org/ClimateStrike

  • Fire the NM Game Commission
The New Mexico legislature has failed to restrict trapping, leaving it to the Game Commission, appointed by the governor, to respond to public outcry against this cruel practice. But the Game Commission has restricted public testimony at its meetings to a minute or two, in order to allow the Game Department to continue its hunting and trapping policies.
