  • 2020 presidential candidates must debate environmental policy #climatedebate
Let's be clear. With the magnitude of the oncoming climate crisis it's no longer sufficient to have a single token environmental question that 2020 candidates get to brush off with a soundbite. We need an entire debate on environmental policies. The global and US Youth Climate Strike's success and interest in environmental policies such as the Green New Deal resolution are signs that the public wants governmental action on the issue of climate change. As we see increasing domestic and global devastation from fires, floods, and everything in between, we need to be discussing environmental policy much more, therefore we are calling for a debate or forum around concrete solutions. We're calling on all 2020 Democratic candidates to take part in a debate or forum around environmental issues. The Washington Post reported that a forum will occur October of 2019 by the Human Rights Campaign and UCLA School of Public Affairs around LGBTQ issues where "Democratic presidential candidates will be invited to participate in a forum focused exclusively on LGBT policies ... they will discuss topics related to hate crimes, bullying and transgender rights." That's an excellent idea and an inspiration for our own organizing. Let's ensure environmental issues from climate change, access to clean water, environmental racism, and everything in between that are disproportionately impacting people of color and working class folks are given the serious attention they deserve. Let's be sure we hear how candidates plan to stop companies accountable for polluting our water and air and what they think about opening up federal land to fracking, drilling, and trophy hunting. Let's have an open mind as they discuss the ways we can shift to renewable energy while keeping the economy and jobs secure. Sign our petition and let's show all the 2020 candidates, the media, and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) that young people can lead as the catalyst for such important discussions that affect every single one of us. Thank you. • Do Not Delist Wolves Nation Wide !!!!!!!!
A nationwide delisting cannot be based on scientific review as claimed by the USFWS because this delisting rule will automatically deny the wolves the right to migrate to habitat which they once occupied. Also, wolves only occupy only around 5% of their original habitat, they are not recovered in the sense that they are nonexistent outside of the great lake states. This proposed delisting states that it will be up to the individual states to manage wolves. In states like South Dakota wolves are already considered varmints and if delisted can be shot on site without a permit or quotas. Many other states have already stated that they do not want wolves in their states ---Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Colorado. States that at one time had wolves but were exterminated from their states when the U.S. government sponsored a bounty program on wolves in the late 1800s and early 1900s and came very close to exterminating the wolves in the lower 48 states. If this delisting proposal succeeds in becoming a reality we will once again no doubt see the wolves existence in this country come to an end, just like before. This is an urgent petition ---many signatures are needed because the USFWS has drawn up the delisting proposal but has not been submitted to the National Register yet.

  • Keep Gray Wolves Protected and Rescind Your Administration's National Delisting
Hunting, trapping, and habitat loss drove gray wolves to near extinction in the twentieth century. Conservation efforts made possible by the Endangered Species Act has allowed them to come back and begin to re-establish their former habitats. But, the Trump Administration has announced a proposed rule that would strip every gray wolf in the lower 48 states of crucial Endangered Species Act protections. Wolves have only begun to recover in many parts of the country–and they are completely absent in others. The successful recovery of gray wolves in the Northern Rockies was only possible because of the strong protections of the Endangered Species Act. The Trump Administration's plan would jeopardize any future recovery by allowing states to manage gray wolves as game species. This would be a death sentence for many wolves. Wolves currently protected under the Endangered Species Act would likely face aggressive hunting and trapping immediately. Add your name to stand against the Trump Administration's plan to take Endangered Species Act safeguards away from gray wolves and to support continued efforts to bring wolves back.

  • Recycle Wyoming
Restaurants, bars, clubs, convenience, and grocery stores have no mandatory recycling rule in place and no incentive to start. I want to call on everyone who knows and cares about this huge and very important issue to help make it mandatory for any establishment that sells or uses glass bottles, paper products, cardboard or plastic bottles to recycle them. If there is any interest in something like this, then incentives can be created for these places of business to participate, fines can be established and issued to those who do not comply. Currently, the Capitol City of Wyoming has a very limited recycling program. Recycling is currently NOT mandatory. Yes, you read that right, NOT mandatory. This practice must end now and reasonable incentives need to be put in place to make compliance something that is not resented by targeted business establishments. Our future generations are counting on us to recycle. Otherwise, they will be mining our trash for resources like tin, and aluminum.

  • No more anti-wolf legislative riders or bills
The Endangered Species Act is our nation's most effective tool for protecting wildlife from extinction. It has saved some of our most iconic species from disappearing forever. The law works–but it only works if politicians let it. Wisconsin's junior Senator Tammy Baldwin has repeatedly introduced legislation that would do an end run around the Endangered Species Act and ignore scientists and biologists by kicking gray wolves off of the endangered species list. Most recently, she cosponsored an anti-wolf amendment to the Natural Resources Management Act–an important law that will protect public lands and reauthorize important conservation programs. The amendment that she cosponsored would remove Endangered Species Act protections from gray wolves in the Great Lakes. Thankfully that effort failed. But, she has introduced or cosponsored similar legislation or amendments that would delist wolves on multiple previous occasions. Legislatively removing protections from gray wolves puts their continued recovery in real jeopardy. Without these protections, states are free to set hunting and trapping seasons on wolves. We know from past experience that Wisconsin aggressively manages wolves and have every indication that the state would do so again. The damage extends to the Endangered Species Act itself. By allowing politicians to replace scientists in decisions around endangered species protections, Senator Baldwin is giving a green light to future politically-based assaults. Would she support slashing protections for other endangered species that big industry finds inconvenient? If not, she should not be attempting repeated rewrites of the rules for gray wolves. Please add your name to tell Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin to protect wolves and the Endangered Species Act by ending her attempts to legislatively delist our gray wolves.
