I'm a Woolsey Fire survivor -- I'm on the frontlines of climate change. So are too many others in America. Climate change isn't some far off, abstract threat -- it's right here, right now, and it needs to be a national priority. The Green New Deal is a big bold outline that can stop runaway climate change. And the American public deserves leaders who are not influenced by the fossil fuel industry in drafting laws making the Green New Deal reality. What's in the Green New Deal? 1) 100% of national power generation from renewable sources; (2) Building a national, energy-efficient, "smart" grid; (3) Upgrading every residential and industrial building for state-of-the-art energy efficiency, comfort and safety; (4) Decarbonizing the manufacturing, agricultural and other industries; (5) Decarbonizing, repairing and improving transportation and other infrastructure; (6) Funding massive investment in the drawdown and capture of greenhouse gases; (7) Making "green" technology, industry, expertise, products, and services a major export of the United States.

Single-use plastic bags are a growing problem. These bags are made from petrochemicals (polyethylene) and are often used only once and for a few minutes or seconds then thrown away (on average, 12 minutes), but stay in our landfills, rivers, streams, lakes, oceans, and environment for centuries. In 2010, 4 to 12 million metric tons of plastic entered waterways. These bags break down into thousands of plastic pieces and are now found in our drinking water as well as in the fish and seafood we eat. With the current use, by 2050, it is estimated that there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish. Additionally, these plastic bags contaminate the land, kill wildlife, gather rainwater offering a perfect spot for mosquitoes that transmit diseases to reproduce, and pose a threat to machinery at recycling centers. We the undersigned, support the adoption of a local ordinance that will ban the use of single-use plastic bags with a long-term solution not to shift from plastic to paper, but to shift to durable reusable bags in the Town of Bennington, VT

The petition speaks for itself, and I have been personally affected by climate change, thanks to a freak windstorm that tore part of the roof off my house, which resulted in mold that put me in the hospital.

Sky Haven is an empty, 14 acre property owned by the DeKalb County Public School System. The property is located in the East Atlanta neighborhood and provides high value tree canopy, a headwater stream, and needed neighborhood greenspace that supports abundant wildlife and critical stormwater management. The property is not officially a public park, nor is it protected greenspace. It could be sold or destroyed at any time.

Once we hit 10,000 (which we hope to do by November 26, the first day of the last NJ legislative session of this year), we are going to do a big press conference and announce the high level of support. So please, sign our petition, and then get your family, friends and community members to do the same!

Restaurants, bars, clubs, convenience and grocery stores have no mandatory recycling rule in place and no incentive to start. I want to call on everyone who knows and cares about this huge and very important issue to help make it mandatory for any establishment that sells glass bottles or plastic bottles to recycle them. If there is any interest in something like this, then incentives can be created for these places of business to participate and fines can be established and issued to those who do not comply. If a business is allowed to sell glass or plastic bottles, they MUST recycle both. Beach bars and restaurants are especially guilty of filling their dumpsters with glass and plastic bottles. Convenience and grocery stores are guilty of supplying the very bottles that litter our streets and fill our dumpsters. This practice must end now and reasonable incentives need to be put in place to make compliance something that is not resented by targeted business establishments.

The Senate Energy & Natural Resources Committee has advanced Trump's latest appointee to FERC, fossil fuel proponent Bernard McNamee. The full Senate will be voting on his confirmation soon. Call on the Senate to investigate the rampant abuses of FERC before approving another Fossil Fool to FERC!

Repeated DxE investigations of Adare Pork have found animals with their organs coming out of their bodies in a condition called prolapse. Despite numerous reports of this cruelty and neglect, the Ontario SPCA has ignored this cruelty. Now, an investigator is facing criminal charges for documenting Adare Pork's animal abuse. Tell the OSPCA you #SupportJenny and demand that the suffering pigs be helped.

1. We the affected residents, want federally certified water filtration/purification systems to be installed in every home, townhouse, apartment/apartment building, housing complexes, senior buildings, hospitals, schools, daycare centers, nursing homes, businesses/restaurants, and homeless shelters. 2. We want State and Federal Monitoring of all work and work-related contracts to Newark, New Jersey's servicing and repairing of the reservoirs. 3. We want a Forensic Audit of all Newark, New Jersey's Water Department finances and perpetual spending going back 15 years, including the Newark Watershed Conservation and Development Corp's spending; and Mayor Ras Baraka's 30% Water Bill increase in which the surplus collected was supposed to be used to fix the infrastructure of the city water system.

Since taking over the Lucedale Animal Shelter, Dixie Adoptables has saved the lives of over 2,000 animals in George County, but we are overwhelmed financially since we only receive funding from the city, not the county.

Allegheny County is denying us public access to information about where the fracking industry has leased land.  County Council Member Anita Prizio has introduced legislation to change this by creating an Allegheny County Lease registry. It would allow residents, local governments and public safety personnel to know where fracking leases are in the county. Making this information available to the public would give us the time we need to organize to prevent fracking wells.

Alpha Natural Resources' subsidiary Republic Energy has applied for renewal of the 2,040-acre (3+ square miles) "Eagle 2" mountaintop removal coal mine, part of over 10 square miles of destruction on Coal River Mountain. Mountaintop removal blasts fine and ultrafine silica dust and other pollutants into the air, creating a public health threat for nearby residents. At this location, it destroys habitat for the endangered Indiana bat and the threatened northern long-eared bat. WVDEP has failed to take effective action for this company's failure to meet legal requirements at this site and history of violations at neighboring sites.
