• Help Save McDee's Cat Colony
McDee's Cat Colony has been in existence for 12+ years at the same location. Mattress Firm was aware of the cat colony when they purchased the property. Recently, Mattress Firm placed a padlock on the gate, preventing Caregivers from entering and tending to the colony. As a result, there were 3 cats found deceased in the shelters that may have been able to receive care. Also, Mattress Firm recently began Throwing Away all the Shelters, as well as Humane Trapping Equipment that was being used to trap 3 new cats that needed to be TNR. This action resulted in the birth of 5 kittens. Several attempts have been made to contact management to possibly cease any further action until Arrangements can be made for possible relocation by animal rescue groups. Mattress Firm told caregivers that the reason for evicting the cat colony was due to him and possible customers having allergies as well as flies in the area. Mattress Firm did not post any warnings about the cats or shelters needing removal. According to management, everyone is directed to contact corporate, who has yet to respond. Please sign to let Mattress Firm how Cruel and Inhuman their actions against homeless and defenseless cats were, especially with winter months approaching.

  • Save EPA Children's Health Expert
My son is only 5 years old and deserves, along with all American children, to live in a country that puts children first. Children are uniquely susceptible to pesticides and other environmental chemicals, and such exposure is linked to a myriad of pediatric illnesses and diseases. Children deserve a healthy future. Removing the EPA's Office of Children's Health Protection puts all our children at risk. See also https://blog.ucsusa.org/kathleen-rest/uncertain-fate-of-epas-office-of-childrens-health-protection

  • DEP Should Deny Sedat #3A Injection Well Application
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) should not allow Plum to become an industrial waste dump. On Oct 1st, DEP held a public hearing on the proposed conversion of the Sedat 3A well (a conventional gas well) in Plum Borough, Allegheny County to a waste injection well, which will dispose of liquid waste from oil and gas development in the region. Penneco Environmental Solutions has proposed the creation of a waste injection well that will accept. 2.3 million gallons per month of industrial water waste, making it the largest injection well in Pennsylvania. Approximately 19 tanker trucks transporting industrial industrial waste will be driving into the community of Plum Borough every day.

  • Protect Oakmont, PA from Oil and Gas Drilling!
Citizens to Protect Oakmont is a volunteer-led group working to protect Oakmont from oil and gas drilling in our community. Last year, CPO and Food & Water Watch succeeded in installing a pending ordinance that would protect our community from the harms of Oil and Gas Drilling, but now Oakmont Borough Council is looking to enact an ordinance that could open up Oakmont to oil and gas drilling in residential areas. We need to push Council to reject this ordinance and amend to increase setbacks, eliminate the Borough exemption and provide for all Oil and Gas Infrastructure in industrial zones only. Council will be voting to adopt these changes on October 9th unless we take action to have our voices heard.

  • Governor Cooper: We Demand An Immediate Moratorium on Factory Farms!
An epic catastrophe is now unfolding in North Carolina in the wake of Hurricane Florence. Mass environmental devastation and tragic loss of millions of farmed animals and wildlife have been intentionally sacrificed to protect profits for BigMeat Corporations that operate in the state. On behalf of industry lobbyists, state legislators have gutted laws that protect animals and the environment from cruelty and neglect by BigMeat corporations. Contract farmers for BigMeat Corporations are allowed to abandon farmed animals to natural disasters such as the massive flooding caused by hurricane Florence. In 2010, North Carolina actually banned state officials from taking into account the escalating impacts of climate change in its coastal management strategy. State legislators have also excluded farmed animals from state animal welfare laws- so farmers can mistreat, neglect or abandon farmed animals with near full impunity. State legislators have also protected BigMeat Corporations from environmental regulations. Factory farms are the leading source of groundwater and air pollution and devastation to wildlife in the state. Toxic sewage loaded with bacteria like E. coli and heavy metals impacts homes, schools and churches in the region. Over the past two years, 23 law suits have been filed by over 500 residents whose health has been affected by chronic exposure to toxic pollution by factory farms. In response, state legislators have put a cap on damages that can be awarded to citizens suffering from corporate polluters, and expanded laws to make it harder for citizens to sue BigMeat corporations. State legislators in North Carolina have consistently favored BigMeat polluters over the health and welfare of its citizens and the protection of local environment and wildlife. As a result of this corporate protectionism by state legislators, foreign countries like China outsource their meat production to NC, because it’s up to 50% cheaper to factory-farm animals in the state due to loose environmental and humane regulations by state legislators. In the wake of destruction by Hurricane Florence, Governor Cooper has an unprecedented opportunity to make a stand for democratic justice and create a model of democratic reform against corporate cronyism. Please sign this petition and urge Governor Cooper to commission an independent inquiry on the full economic impacts to citizens’ health, the pollution of environment and wildlife, and the unregulated cruelty to farmed animals by BigMeat corporations in North Carolina. • Help send 30,000 messages to SAExploration: No seismic testing in the Arctic!
Now, after Trump took steps to open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to Big Oil, a small company called SAExploration has applied for a permit to conduct seismic testing. This can have a devastating impact on the environment. And it could start as soon as December. We need your help to show SAExploration that the public is watching – and we don’t want them to do seismic testing in the Arctic!

  • Stop Chicken Construction - Study the Water
We have lived with chicken farms but this massive explosion of houses concentrated in a few areas is dangerous to our health and water sources. Most of us live on water wells, which are showing contamination and some drying up. Families can't cook outside on their porch or have birthday parties when the pool has debris and feathers and the "farmer" burns dead chicken carcasses on the fence line. They are building too many, too close to each other and neighbors fence lines. Many of us do not have access to county water systems. What will we do without water? Please fund the USGS study, stop construction until there are scientific facts to support the foreign corporation from depleting our water. Simmons Foods does not have science to come in and colonize the land and waters of the Cherokee Nation citizens and neighbors. Shame on Simmons family.

  • Florida's Toxic Algae Problem
This summer, Florida saw some of its most intense toxic algae blooms yet. There's a reason these blooms are getting worse: Governor Scott rolled back the water protections that used to help keep them at bay, and he's refused to take action to stop the agricultural pollution that fuels them. And now Floridians are paying for it in the form of contaminated, algae-laden water and coasts, massive wildlife die-offs, and big economic losses. Demand that Governor Scott and the Legislature act to restore our water protections, stop the pollution fueling the algae blooms, and clean up our already polluted water! It's time our elected leaders represent Floridians, NOT Big Ag special interests, and fix this water disaster plaguing our state.
