As an anthropologist, educator, humanist, and member of The El Dorado County Indian Council, Inc., and a 75-year-old citizen of this country, I have spent my entire adult life involved in teaching students and others the value of protecting Native American rights, culture, and prehistory. Fracking is one of the most destructive means of assault on our environment, and it will surely destroy Chaco Canyon and other National Parks if it is allowed to happen.

This petition is about recognizing the importance of our natural mature forests in providing a way through climate chaos. We must recognize the value of living forests before they fall to greed and it is too late to grow 100 year-old trees in a snap to protect us! The town I live in is about 37 square miles and a large percentage of this is state forest. We also serve as watershed for most of our adjoining towns. Biomass wood pellet companies are currently de-foresting North Carolina to feed European biomass electricity generation. We do not want Massachusetts to allow its forests to be destroyed for temporary corporate profit.

Plastic straws are ruining our waterways and killing wildlife. We want this to change!

Lake Casitas is going dry due to the Casitas municipal water district being hamstrung by restrictions from diverting water from the Ventura river due to steelhead protections. There hasn't been a sighting of one since 2007. 12 years is long enough! Remove the restrictions and allow the lake to fill. The future of the Ojai valley depends on it.

The Rush Springs Aquifer has already suffered depletion, and with the future use and withdrawals from increased activity of the oil and gas industry, and the future use by frac sand mines, the possibility of future droughts, it is imperative that we protect the Rush Springs Aquifer NOW!!!!!!

We the undersigned residents of Montville Township, do hereby request the Montville Township Committee to acquire the land commonly known as 205 and 207 Changebridge Road with the use of Open Space funds. The land in question is in immediate danger of high-density business development. As there has not been an Open Space purchase in the last 7 years and an Open Space tax collection in this time period of over $12 million, we insist that the Township acquire one of the last upland parcels left in lower Montville. Besides protecting wetland habitat and greenspace, this farmland is ideally suited for any number of uses which would be beneficial to all Montville residents. One such use would be community gardens. This would free up land at the Community Park for other active recreation such as tennis along with sorely needed additional parking. Montville Township is renowned for its dedication to the preservation of open space and natural habitats. We implore you to act swiftly on this matter and maintain the rural nature of our Town that we all have come to love and enjoy.

Florida is known for its Cypress trees and knees, they are protected and should remain that way. Too many sinkholes are coming out because our wetlands and swamps are being filled in for development. Our wildlife doesn't have anywhere to go; our trees are being cut which gives the air our oxygen for us to breathe. I was born in Tampa FL and see the destruction caused by too much development. Too many cars and not enough roads to cover the growth. I wait at the stop light at Collier and 54 in Land O Lakes for at least 3 traffic changes and sometimes more. THIS NEEDS TO STOP

Congress should pass the bipartisan Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture (PACT) Act. It will help broaden efforts to prevent animal torture and cruelty! The House bill is called H.R. 724 and will give law enforcement additional tools to stop animal abuse at the federal level because law enforcement will be able to investigate animal cruelty that across state lines (like dog fighting rings) in partnership with local officials. This bill already has 284 co-sponsors in the House and is supported by The Humane Society of the United States. We should work together to support this much needed improvement to animal protection laws in the US.

Dear Senator, We are writing to formally request that Hawaii State make a Line Item Allocation in the state budget for the eradication of the invasive and deafening Coqui frog, to match the budget allocated annually by Maui County for the eradication of Coqui frogs by Maui Invasive Species Committee. One single Coqui frog chirps at 95 decibels and Noise-Induced Hearing loss starts at 85 decibels. The density of Coqui frog population without its native snake predator has reached 36,000 per acre but could reach a higher density with time. The State of Hawaii owns Maui’s most infested parcel of land in Maliko Gulch where Coqui frogs have been multiplying and carried downstream for years. The density of Coqui’s in Maliko Gulch is causing an overflow of coquis out of the state’s land to all nearby neighborhoods, forcing residents to have to spray their own properties or suffer loss of sleep and for some, noise-induced hearing loss in the form of 24/7 tinnitus or ringing in the ears. The State of Hawaii should take responsibility for the noise-induced hearing loss health hazard caused by Coqui Frogs. This year is the ‘Point of No Return’ in which state legislators will make the decision to either support an eradication budget for Coqui frogs in time, or fail to do so before it is too late, thus condemning future generations of Maui citizens to suffer sleepless nights as well as noise-induced hearing loss. Previous budgets intended to ‘control’ Coqui have been inadequate because Coqui frogs literally hitchhike on cars for 25+ miles, or in recycle refuse or green waste dumped into difficult to reach gulches, etc., and a whole new population for Maui Invasive Species Committee to tackle taking their time away from the state’s Maliko Gulch dense population of coqui frogs. We hope you will choose to save Maui from the fate that has befallen Big Island. Maui Invasive Species Committee confirms that this year’s budget is our last chance before the spread of coquis can no longer be controlled or eradicated like Big Island.

Other countries are not required to have this specific ingredient in their bread, so why should we? It's banned there so why not here? This ingredient is used for yoga mats and shoe soles; this is what we are intaking into our bodies. It is also a possible cause of asthma due to the issues for respiratory causes. The United States has children, youths, adults, and elderly putting this chemical in our carcasses.

Andrew Wheeler is a denier of the scientific consensus on climate change and a lobbyist for the coal industry. Before his appointment as Environmental Protection Agency assistant administrator, he held fundraisers for Wheeler hosted campaign fundraisers for top climate-denying Republican Senators John Barrasso and Jim Inhofe, both members of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works — the committee that voted on his nomination. That same committee is now considering whether to confirm Wheeler to replace corrupt climate denier Scott Pruitt as EPA Administrator. Pruitt left under a smoggy cloud of scandal—we need to prevent the cycle from continuing by stopping Wheeler. Wheeler's lobbying clients have included Murray Energy, the largest privately owned U.S. coal company, as well as Xcel Energy, a giant coal-fired utility group. Before that, he spent 14 years as a staffer for Inhofe. Before joining Trump's EPA, Wheeler spent time in between lobbying for polluters on social media, liking a racist image of former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama on Facebook and retweeting infamous “Pizzagate” conspiracy theorist Jack Posobiec. As acting EPA chief, Wheeler is already rolling back rules on toxic coal ash and mercury pollution. We need to tell our U.S. Senators: stop Wheeler!
