Trump keeps criticizing California's forest management and blames them for wildfires. But forest management is a federal responsibility, and the funds for that keep getting cut. Then the state is forced to use remaining funds to fight the wildfires instead. It's a cycle that feeds on itself and makes it almost impossible for California to do adequate forest management. Now President Trump is threatening to cut FEMA funding, too. California citizens who lost everything in the wildfires are already dealing with unbearable stress. They don't need Trump to add to that by threatening the loss of FEMA funding that pays not just for local infrastructure repair, but for home repair, emergency housing, and groceries. Furthermore, there are reports that Trump could take money from Puerto Rico recovery efforts—after he's spread conspiracy theories to diminish the devastating, fatal impact of hurricanes to the island—to get even more money for a border wall should he declare a national emergency. In places like Puerto Rico, California, North Carolina, Florida, and Texas, people who have already been through unthinkable loss don't need the president of the United States to add to their burdens. He needs to stop abusing his power and American citizens to fuel his ego.

The Trump Shutdown is causing enormous damage to our national parks and the wildlife that call them home. Visitors to some parks have left piles of trash and waste near roadsides, making the parks unsanitary and putting bears, coyotes, and wolves in future peril. The National Park Service has worked for decades to prevent large predators from becoming accustomed to food from people. Park visitors are jeopardizing all of these efforts by causing animals to become habituated to seeking food near roadsides and other places where visitors gather. When the shutdown ends, these animals will continue to seek food near people, potentially leading to conflicts that could result in the killing of wildlife. The National Park Service estimates that there were more than 300 million visits to parks in 2017. Even a fraction of that traffic can cause potentially catastrophic damage. Joshua Tree National Park recently announced it would close all or a portion of the park following vandalism to its namesake tree and other plants and park lands. Point Reyes National Seashore in California was closed for health reasons after human waste accumulated and Yosemite National Park closed some of its most frequented trails, "due to lack of restrooms and resulting impacts from human waste." Former National Park Service Director Jonathan Jarvis cited the great risk in an Op Ed her recently wrote: "Leaving the parks open without these essential staff is equivalent to leaving the Smithsonian museums open without any staff to protect the priceless artefacts." In previous shutdowns, the parks have been closed to protect these iconic, treasured spaces from damage such as that which we are now seeeing. Former Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke decided in one of his final acts as a member of the Trump Administration to leave them open, despite precedent otherwise. The Green New Deal may be our last chance tackle what is certainly the most important challenge facing humankind, climate change. According to the IPCC report, we have a mere 12 years to cut fossil fuel emissions by a head-spinning 45 percent. We must treat climate change as a crisis situation.

If we do not address climate change soon the consequences could be things we have seen in films about the potential lack of living things on the earth. Or the quality of life will be limited. We need to fund this battle because we can't stop it when we are over the edge. The natural elements do not respond to money or power. Humans are powerless next to the forces of nature.

The trump organization has no care as to what they destroy to make way for a border wall. No land, homes to endangered species, should be threatened. trump has shown he has no care for endangered species, wildlife, or Americas National Parks. We only have until 2030 to slow down global warming, and the US needs to do its part.

Closure of the GM Lordstown Assembly Plant would be a disaster for thousands of working families and scores of communities in NE Ohio. The most viable option to prevent plant closure is to echo the call by GM for a zero-emission future through mass production of long-range all-electric vehicles and call for the allocation of the cars of the future at Lordstown.

We need legislation that adheres to science and facts and which enables us to use all possible technological means to combat climate change. We should not allow energy policies having ulterior motives (and fossil fuel bedfellows) to derail united efforts to prevent the worst impacts of climate change. Renewables (because they are intermittent) are increasingly forcing utilities to build natural gas capacity . . . defeating progress reducing emissions. Only 100% Clean Energy standards force utilities to drive down emissions. This means they must pair renewables with other types of clean energy, including hydro, geothermal and clean nuclear power. Let's shut down the RPS backdoor, that has allowed natural gas and fossil fuels to thrive at our climate's expense.

The federal government continues to deny the reality of climate change and refuses to take immediate action to protect the future of humanity. A recent report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change states that emissions must peak by 2020 to limit global warming to 1.5C and then steadily drop. According to the Global Carbon Project, U.S. emissions rose in 2018. Our government is not doing enough to protect us.
