Save the WorldWe are starting this petition because throughout the years we have noticed that there are a lot of unnecessary houses that are being built. People should be concerned about this issue because this will cause a huge increase in pollution rates and a huge decrease in the amount of organisms that live in New York.18 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Abby

Stop Toxic Rock - Montclair's Pollution ProblemPaint contains toxic chemicals including Volatile Organic Compounds such as toluene and benzene; metals like lead, silver, mercury, and cadmium; binders and solvents like methylene chloride which affect the ecosystem of beautiful Sausal Creek and the San Francisco Bay. Just 1 gallon of paint can contaminate 1,000,000 gallons of water. The Rock in Marj Saunders Park at 5801 at Ascot Drive in Oakland has been painted continuously since the 1950s, allowing as much as 50 gallons of paint per year to enter our watershed negatively affecting our ecosystem and health. Not only is this an environmental problem, it's ugly and it's illegal. The City should enforce its own laws and protect our ecosystem and public health. I am a 6th-grade student at Bentley School and I live near the rock. Signs actually encourage this behavior! I don't think people should be harming the environment, including our fish and wildlife, on purpose. We should be setting a better example for kids like me and not celebrating pollution. Painting the rock should be stopped, and the area should be restored to its natural beauty and protected from further pollution.27 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Cameron Cox

National Geographic: Stop Mailing Magazines in Plastic!National Geographic is one of the top circulating magazines in the US with around 42 million magazines mailed annually--each and every issue wrapped in plastic. The Polybags used, made of polyethylene #4, is a common plastic, recyclable with grocery bags made of the same or similar (#2) material. But, according to the National Geographic article titled "A Whopping 91% of Plastic Isn't Recycled"-well, you get the gist. This "environmental" magazine has published dozens of articles on the hazards of plastic bags--there is no room for this level of hypocrisy in our country's 8th largest circulating magazine. So let's encourage them to set a precedent and to stop mailing their publication in plastic bags.253 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Lorena Williams

Urge Governor Rauner To Open Emission Sites in Chicago! This is absolutely a step backward in reducing the city's air pollution problem. Many concerned citizens wonder if the goal to reduce costs turned into a costlier toll on our environment. Emission testing is designed to protect the environment and not contribute to the problem. The closures of all sites in Chicago defeats the purpose of reducing emission. Illinois' emission program seems to contribute to the carbon emissions that we are trying to prevent by having Chicago residents drive farther to get tests done. Let us join together to urge Governor Rauner to open emission sites in Chicago!200 of 300 SignaturesCreated by LaShawn Ford

Wildfires in CaliforniaOur team proposes a prototype of a new bill to protect the people living in California from being tricked by the government into purchasing a house in these fire hazard zones and to enforce the law regarding campsite-national park fires caused by humans. This bill will also state that any project developed in fire hazard areas should be revised and approved by the California Department of Forestry and Fire protection. The California Department of Forestry and Fire protection agency is responsible for fire protection in state responsibility areas of California totaling 31 million acres, as well as the administration of the states private and public forests. If this organization were to approve the project being developed in a fire hazard zone, then the houses shall be built with concrete as well as with fire-resistant windows to prevent the spread of fires. The houses should also be built 8 feet apart to prevent fires from spreading amongst each other. Now, if anyone is interested in purchasing a house that has already been built in a fire hazard zone, then the realtor must let the buyer know about the dangers. As we know, human-caused fires can be due to many reasons such as campfires left unattended, the burning of debris, negligently discarded cigarettes and intentional acts of arson. That’s why we propose to enforce the law regarding campsites like we stated before. To start a fire, you need a permit but even with a permit, many fires have accidentally spread. That’s why anyone staying at a campsite or planning to start a campfire should always show their permit at the campground/parks entrance, as well as filling out sign-in and sign-out sheets, a time log, and stating the number of people staying at the campsite. These campgrounds and National Parks should also have 24/7 surveillance and security. The only downside to these solutions is that to introduce a bill or even an idea regarding law enforcement, you must be a member of Congress or at least know someone holding this position. That’s why we’ve already contacted California’s Senator Dianne Feinstein and have emailed her personally about our solution. Were willing to turn to social media, posters, and websites to spread the word about these solutions that could potentially save California from future unwanted fatalities due to wildfires. We plan to grab the attention of congressman and prove to them that our ideas can help California and even inspire other states to propose similar bills.72 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Vanessa Reeves

Fossil-Free, Pipeline-Free 603 for jobs, health, safety & NH's economy.UNITED FOR CLEAN ENERGY New Hampshire residents want energy efficiency and clean, safe, homegrown renewable energy that supports our economy, protects natural resources and our rural, independent way-of-life. We want to be #FossilFree603. We do not want natural (fracked) gas (the potent greenhouse gas, methane) expansion in the Granite State, including Liberty Utilities' proposed Granite Bridge Pipeline and Unitil's gas expansion plans for Manchester, Auburn, Candia, Raymond, Epping, Brentwood, Exeter and Stratham. SOUTHERN NH opposed the NED pipeline and opposes the Granite Bridge Pipeline (Concord lateral) that threatens our water, air, health, safety, food and future with natural (fracked) gas leaks and emissions that include trade secret chemicals undisclosed to the U.S. government. NORTHERN NH has opposed the Northern Pass that would install massive unsightly towers, rip through the White Mountains, reduce tourism, scenic vistas, water quality and wildlife, clear-cuts carbon-trapping forests, poisons water and has left salmon near extinction.143 of 200 SignaturesCreated by ECHO Action NH (ECHOaction.org)
