Senator McConnell refused to do his job as a U.S. Senator and encouraged other senators to shirk their responsibilities when he refused to hold hearings on Judge Merrick Garland. This week he impeded the proper functioning of the Senate when he moved to have Senator Elizabeth Warren permanently silenced and excluded from the debate on the candidacy of Sen. Jeff Sessions for U.S. Attorney General. Senator Warren was silenced because she was reading a relevant letter from Coretta Scott King on the many reasons Jeff Sessions should not be given a position of power. John Faso has refused to schedule a town hall meeting that is free and open to the public. His constituents were so angry that they marched to his house! Citizen Action asked him to hold a meeting but he has not scheduled one. He needs to face us and hear us so that we know he is working for us!

We need to make sure that our elected officials know their constituents concerns so they can represent them in Washington.

Our representatives work for us. Therefore, a vital part of representative democracy is public meetings in which members of the public get to talk face-to-face to their elected representatives in real time and get face-to-face answers to their questions. However, as opposition to the Trump administration grows louder, and representatives get uncomfortable, more representatives are choosing not to host these kinds of events at all. This is not okay. Representatives MUST be held to account by directly facing the people that their actions affect. Demand that they fulfill their duties to constituents. Demand that they listen.

I am a registered voter in New York's 19th District who wants his voice heard by his representative.

The people of the 19th district would like a chance to address Rep. John Faso respectfully in person, in order to better understand his positions under an administration that may not reflect the political and ethical philosophy of many in the 19th. district.

The week of February 18-26 is the first congressional recess of the 115th Congress, and for many of us, the first opportunity since Trump took office to speak directly with our members of Congress--without having to worry about going to voicemail. This is the perfect time to ask the questions that we, as constituents, deserve answers to and to demonstrate that tolerance of Trump's attacks on our health care, our communities, and our democracy are unacceptable and politically toxic. An open and accessible government is the standard of U.S. democracy. Or at least it should be! John Faso won Ulster County by a narrow margin and there are many of us who want to make sure that he is going to do the job he was hired to do; speak for all citizens of Ulster County and not just the 1%! With the uncertainty and unorthodox nature of our present Republican administration, our job of holding Rep. Faso accountable just got bigger and more crucial than ever.

It is of utmost importance, in this time of radical change and uncertainty, that our elected representatives hear from us and talk with us.

An apartment building in a West Bank settlement was funded by an organization headed by David Friedman, President Trump’s nominee for ambassador to Israel. The building is financed by American Friends of Beit El Institutions, which Friedman chairs. American Friends of Beit El Institutions raised almost $667,000 for its Israeli counterpart, the Organization for the Sukkat Ovadia Yeshiva of Beit El. The Israeli organization funded construction projects on private Palestinian land. The projects were illegal under Israeli law. The planned apartment building is also to be built partly on private Palestinian land. I think we all are affected by Trump's desire to make the judicial branch do his bidding. We need Judge Gorsuch, who is in a very prominent position right now, to speak up and defend the Constitution of the US.

We must not allow our legislators to silently benefit from Donald Trump's presence in the White House without their personal acceptance of responsibility for the agenda he is promoting.
