Starting the petition so that if Trump wants to run for re-election and be on the ballot in Pennsylvania, he will have to release his tax returns and all future presidential candidates will have to release their tax returns as well. We do not need the US Congress to pass a law like this. If a handful of swing states which Republican and Democratic candidates need to win require tax returns to be on the ballot, every future candidate will do it.

Basic principles: an election without election integrity is not an election.  We, the people, should not be forced to accept dubious election results, that threaten our national and global security. "When the president does it, that means it is not illegal." This infamous quote, which ultimately brought down Nixon's presidency, seems to be Trump's justification for refusing the financial disclosures expected of any holder of higher office. Trump has so far refused to release his taxes, divest himself from his businesses, and disclose his financial entanglements and debts he has all over the world. The bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee is probing into the involvement of Russian intelligence agencies in the 2016 election, including possible illegal ties between Russia and Trump's team. We must urge the investigating panel to subpoena Trump's tax returns to check if Trump is beholden to any foreign entity. The Senate Intelligence Committee stated that it would use "subpoenas if necessary". Now that the Trump administration has taken over the national intelligence agencies, it is more urgent than ever that his tax returns are released because: 1. Trump's tax returns will confirm the nature of his financial ties with Russia; 2. They will reveal Trump's conflicts of interest and possible violations of the emoluments clause of the Constitution; 3. The investigating panel has the legal grounds now to demand that Trump release his tax returns, as all requests from an ethical and moral standpoint were willfully ignored. The House of Representatives just revived an extreme measure to slash the salaries of federal employees they don't like to just $1 per year. The implications of this ability are vast -- and horrifying. A radical politician can effectively fire someone who works on a program they don't personally agree with -- like, say, climate science, ethics investigations, or environmental standards. This rule could inject electoral politics into everything the government does. The president could even use this rule to encourage his allies to purge the federal workforce of non-loyalists. Members of both parties have expressed outrage -- there is a likely majority in the House if it came up for a full, public vote. Public pressure convinced congressional Republicans to drop their attack on independent ethics oversight -- it can put an end this shocking rule too.

By Election Day 2016, it had become painfully obvious that Donald Trump was hiding something in his tax returns. The less troubling possibilities were troubling enough: that he had lied to the American people about his degree of business success, or that he had exploited tax loopholes that, while technically legal, would strike most Americans as improper. But there are growing reasons to be concerned about darker possibilities: corrupt business practices that would make Trump vulnerable to blackmail by anyone who knew the truth, or financial ties to foreign governments that would amount to taking bribes once Trump took office. Many members of the cabinet, and other political appointees (such as heads of independent agencies) wield significant power. Furthermore, in the case of lower-ranking political appointees, Federal law allows the President to reappoint them to higher positions in an acting capacity once confirmed by the Senate to the first position. Therefore, it is dangerous for the Senate to confirm any appointee who may have been chosen for improper reasons. Many of Trump's nominees would arguably stand a good chance of being reappointed by Trump's successor were he to resign or be removed from office with their appointments still pending. However, even with Trump's less-controversial nominees, it would be deeply embarrassing for the Senate to have rushed their confirmations, if the worst suspicions about Trump ultimately proved true. Offering Trump an ultimatum will provide Trump with a powerful incentive to resolve these questions as quickly as possible. So for the sake of the country, and the dignity of the Senate, we ask you: tell Trump you will not vote to confirm any of his political appointees until he lets the American people know the truth.

I am outraged that in less then week Trump will ascend to the Presidency of the United States before the American people know the extent of foreign interference into our election.

We, the people, should not be required to pay for health care coverage for elected officials. We must redirect our tax dollars to other more important needs.

Donald Trump has many business interests in other countries. Any gifts to his businesses or his family could violate the emoluments clause in the constitution. All American citizens should feel that the President of the United States must be above suspicion in any actions he takes on behalf of this country.
