To demonstrate that we, the people, do care to know about all the conflicts of interests facing Donald Trump.

We need more oversight in regard to ethics and criminal activity happening in our government. The GOP wants absolute power that has no accountability.

The Senate is about to hold hearings on Donald Trump’s pick for Secretary of Labor -- one of the WORST fast-food CEO’s, Andy Puzder of Hardee’s and Carl’s Jr. I work at Hardee’s under Puzder. I know first-hand -- we MUST fight his nomination. I was paid far too little to live -- just $7.35 per hour -- and see health and safety violations all over the place at my restaurant. Puzder makes more in a day than many employees make in a year -- and he even opposes the minimum wage Now Trump wants to put Puzder in charge of enforcing the very laws that he broke as CEO. We won’t, we can’t, back down.

On Saturday, the Office of Government Ethics reported that several of President-elect Donald Trump’s Cabinet nominees have not completed the ethics review process. Many of Mr. Trump’s nominees have extensive financial holdings that may present serious conflicts of interest. We stand opposed to holding confirmation hearings for Mr. Trump’s nominees until their ethics reviews have been completed. The hearings and votes must be delayed to ensure due diligence in this vital democratic process. The role of the president and of U.S. legislators is to uphold the Constitution, democracy, and our most cherished values as a nation. Rushing the confirmation process without completing adequate ethics reviews before confirmation hearings endangers all three.

As reported in the Huffington Post, "Congressional Democrats led by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) plan to introduce legislation on Monday that would require President-elect Donald Trump to divest his business holdings in order to avoid conflicts of interest while serving in the White House. "The President Conflict of Interest Act would require the president and vice president, their spouses and any minor or dependent children to divest all personal financial holdings that could create a conflict of interest, and to place the resulting assets into a blind trust governed by an independent trustee. "The bill would also formally implement the Constitution’s Emoluments Clause, which bans government officials from receiving gifts or payments from foreign governments, by declaring the violation of financial conflict-of-interest laws and provisions by the president to be considered a high crime or misdemeanor punishable by impeachment. "Trump is set to enter office with an unprecedented array of financial conflicts of interest related to his multibillion-dollar Trump Organization. He has failed to specify how he will separate himself from the business that bears his name in order to avoid conflicts of interest."

As the chief executive of OneWest bank, Steven Mnuchin executed tens of thousands of foreclosures, which were particularly concentrated in minority communities. He received taxpayer bailout funding and special government support to purchase OneWest based on agreeing that his bank would make its “best efforts” to restructure loans and avoid throwing families out of their homes. But Mr. Mnuchin did not make such efforts. Instead, OneWest was quick to evict families from their homes in order to increase profits and even broke the law to do so. The practices of OneWest’s reverse mortgage subsidiary, Financial Freedom, are also disturbing. Reverse mortgage products, marketed to the elderly as a way for them to tap home equity, are supposed to include protections against eviction so long as borrowers continue to live in their primary residences. But Financial Freedom engaged in aggressively predatory practices that led to over sixteen thousand foreclosures. Elderly individuals who had recently suffered the death of a spouse were most likely to be victimized. In one case Financial Freedom attempted to evict a 90-year-old woman from her home over a 27 cent error on an insurance payment.

The petition is about protecting the Affordable Care Act from Repeal without a replacement which preserves the RIGHT for every American to have health care coverage. It affects all of us!

The Office of Government Ethics said "no other occasion in the office’s four decades when the Senate had held a confirmation hearing before the review was completed." This is not about who won the election - McConnell downplays by saying "we need to sort of grow up here and get past that.” IT IS about Senate following the ethics process and rules that have been in place since Watergate. Demand McConnell halt the hearings until the ethics review process is complete.

Trump has said he will appoint a Justice like Scalia; Obama has the constitutional power to appoint Merrick. To insure the well being of our country, our children's future and the good of the world we do not need an extreme conservative on the bench.

As a vibrant coastal community we have a responsibility to protect our special environment. As a long time resident of Little Silver and seeing the pollutant increase, we all know single use plastic bags are a detriment to our waterways and community and action needs to be taken. We are looking to influence our local government to effectively ban plastic and paper bags from all commercial establishments . This is already in consideration at the state level and we would be moving in conjunction with statutes that are already under review.

Let's keep up the pressure to ensure all nominees are thoroughly vetted before their hearings.*** Starting with Jeff Sessions, the Senate is trying to hurry through congressional hearings for 10 of Donald Trump's controversial Cabinet nominations—before the nominees have gone through the standard ethics review process. The director of the nonpartisan Office of Government Ethics said that this rushed schedule is "of great concern," and that this may leave some of Trump's selections with "potentially unknown or unresolved ethics issues." We can't sit back and let the Senate confirm millionaires, billionaires, and politicians influenced heavily by corporate lobbyists without insisting that they undergo standard background and ethics checks.
