Trump has promised to release his taxes, pending an audit. That promise has been renewed recently, but also disavowed. I don't need to see his taxes, but the Senate certainly does. They should review his taxes so they can be assured that there are no problems.

Senator Cassidy's office phones have been going to voicemail, and in some offices the mailbox has been full. Constituents in Lake Charles also have been unable to confirm whether anyone is staffing the local office. Constituents deserve an opportunity to make their voices heard.

In a sanctuary city, officials implement policies to restrict local police from turning immigrants over to federal immigration agents and declare in no uncertain terms that immigrants are welcome. Without them, undocumented immigrants are left vulnerable to racial profiling, detention and deportation. It is our hope that this petition will help us get on the agenda to discuss adopting a resolution to become an official Sanctuary City. It has become obvious that MO Senator Roy Blunt votes have been bought. He is ignoring the calls from his constituents and needs to be held accountable. To prevent this from happening in the future we need the ability to recall our federal officials.

When a politician wins an election, he or she is allowed to draw their own districts as a tactic to ensure their own re-election. A politician should not be allowed to choose their voters. Rather, the voters should be allowed to choose their representative. By utilizing a nonpartisan committee, we can end this practice so that districts are straightforward and represent the needs of the community rather than a political party.

I received an email from the White House asking for signatures for Trump's petition to show support for Neil Gorsuch for the Supreme Court. The White House website has this petition highlighted uppermost on the site. I created a petition there for the opposition view. However, the government site accepts signatures for my petition, but does not count them! This is an example of the authoritarian tactics American citizens are now facing. I am asking MoveOn members to help counter the lies and misrepresentations coming from the administration on the levels of support for right-wing leaning nominations, especially for the Supreme Court, by signing this petition.

House Republicans want to eliminate the Election Assistance Commission (EAC) -- and we can’t let that happen. The EAC’s job is to ensure our election infrastructure meets the highest standards for security and usability. They work with state officials to help them meet these standards, and gather information about the best ways to ensure that every eligible voter can have their vote counted. With still-unanswered questions about the influence of Russian hacking on the 2016 election, now is the worst possible time to throw out these critical safeguards. That’s why we we can’t let Republicans gut this critical commission. Congress created the EAC when it passed the Help America Vote Act in 2002 -- a package of reforms to improve voting systems and voter access in the wake of the 2000 election. We’ve made a lot of progress since then, but there’s still more work to do -- gutting this agency now would be the wrong move. The greatest democracy in the world deserves the best, most secure elections system in the world. The EAC works every day to make that a reality -- so we can’t let Congress eliminate it.
