• Kazja Kumite Bill
Pro and Amateuer MMA Fighters and Kick Boxers, etc are being used and abused in the USA and in California. It's time to fight for equal rights of all Fighters. (A fighter is a fighter). All Fighters lives and rights matter. Stop this violation of equal rights. MMA fighters, both Amateur and Pro as well as Kick Boxers are fighting on the same card as Boxers. They sell way more tickets and bring in way more fans than the Pro Boxers do. They are told they have to sell a certain amount of tickets or they can't fight. The Promoter has to pay 88 cents from each ticket sold to the Boxer's Pension fund and 1 cent to the Neurological Examination Account. The tax collected for the Pension only goes to the Boxers even though more money was taken in from the Pro/Amateur MMA fighters and Kick Boxers. The MMA Fighters and Kick Boxers receive no pension or contract rights. The 1 cent collected from all ticket sales for the Neurological Examination Fund only benefits the Pro MMA fighter and Pro Boxer. Amateur fighters don't get scanned even though they strike the head and get struck in the head with the same force as a Pro MMA fighter. The Amateur MMA Fighters fight more, get knocked out more and probably struck in the head more than the Pro MMA fighter. This is why I created this Petition to protect the health and safety and equal rights for all fighters. What if you were a minority and worked for a company where money is taken out for a pension but only the white workers get a pension. This is wrong. So is what is happening to MMA Fighters and Kick Boxers. Sign this petition and tell a friend to sign and spread the word so all fighters will be treated equal. We first request the State to honor the Federal Ali Act which our State says only applies to Boxers. At the same time the State requires Kick Boxers and MMA fighters to abide to the boxing laws of our business professions codes that says Boxers. The Ali Act is a Federal Law already in place that protects the rights of Boxers. A Kick Boxer is a Boxer. A MMA fighter uses boxing in the ring. This law should apply to all Professional Combat Sports. If you can please amend this bill and change the word Boxer to Professional Fighters. If that can't be done then we request the Kazja Kumite Bill be approved to protect all fighters equally. Kazja Kumite Bill This law will protect all Professional fighters equally. Such as Boxers, Kick Boxers, MMA Fighters, San Shou, and Draka fighters etc. A Fighter is a Fighter no matter what style of combat therefore they all should be protected and treated equally by the Kazja Kumite Bill. Existing law, the State Athletic Commission Act, creates the State Athletic Commission and makes it responsible for licensing and regulating boxing, kickboxing, and martial arts matches and wrestling exhibitions. Existing law prohibits a promoter from having a proprietary interest in a boxer or mixed martial arts fighter without the approval of the commission. Existing law creates the continuously appropriated Boxers' Pension Fund and requires the commission to establish a pension plan for boxers and to deposit the moneys collected by the pension plan into the fund. This bill would declare the intent of the Legislature to protect all fighters including mixed martial arts fighters, kick boxers etc from exploitive, oppressive, or coercive contracts and to support the establishment of standards to protect these fighters. This bill would require a promoter to provide specified a copy of any written agreement with a professional athlete as well as a written and sworn statements regarding his or her financial interests statement, made under penalty of perjury, that no other agreements between the promoter and athlete with respect to that contest, and a list of any fees charged or reductions in the amount paid to the athlete, to the commission before the promoter can receive compensation from a boxing or mixed martial arts contest. By requiring a statement to be made under penalty of perjury, the bill would expand that crime and would thereby impose a state-mandated local program. The bill would require the commission to establish a professional code of conduct for licensees, would also require the commission to suspend, revoke , or refuse to renew the license of a fight promoter who enters into a coercive contract, as defined, with a fighter, who has been convicted of a felony or a gross misdemeanor other specified crimes , or who has been subject to specified law enforcement actions, investigations, or allegations. This bill would require the commission to establish a professional code of conduct for licensees engaged in certain other actions . This bill would also extend the scope of the Boxers' Pension Plan to include professional mixed martial arts fighters, kickboxers etc and would rename the fund as the Professional Fighters Pension Fund. By providing for new moneys to be deposited in a continuously appropriated fund, the bill would make an appropriation. This bill would also exempt documents provided to the commission by promoters from disclosure to the public based on a finding by the Legislature that these documents contain proprietary business information. The California Constitution requires the state to reimburse local agencies and school districts for certain costs mandated by the state. Statutory provisions establish procedures for making that reimbursement. This bill would provide that no reimbursement is required by this act for a specified reason. Vote: majority. Appropriation: yes no. Fiscal committee: yes. State-mandated local program: yes. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. It is the intent of the Legislature in enacting this act to protect all style of fighters from being subjected to exploited, oppressive, or coercive contractual practices that violate the athletes' freedom to work and their ability to support themselv...

  • Tell Congress: We want protection from toxic chemicals
For decades, our nation's major chemical law, the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), has been too weak to protect us from toxic chemicals in our everyday products. Congress is putting the final touches on an update to the law, but before it hits the President's desk, one big problem needs to be addressed. Chemical industry lobbyists and some lawmakers are pushing hard to preempt efforts by states to protect us from toxic chemicals. States across the country have led the way to protect their citizens from toxic chemicals, and we need to ensure they can continue to safeguard us. Tell Congress to preserve state power in the final bill so states can continue to protect us from toxic chemicals.

  • Access to the real world for disabled Americans
I have been in a manual wheelchair for more than twenty years due to a degenerative condition that has made it necessary to move to a powered wheelchair. After more than two years of fighting with the State of Arkansas' Medicaid program for authorization, I finally received a powered wheelchair this past Christmas Eve. It is Invacare's top of the line M 41 Pronto with "Sure-Step," it retails for six thousand dollars, and it is inadequate for navigating the real world. It has less than two inches of ground clearance and gets stuck three out of every four times trying to get over the 3/4" high threshold of my front door. It cannot make it over cracks in the sidewalk to take my trash from my apartment to the dumpster. When the hard plastic drive wheels are even just a little bit damp, they spin uselessly. It should have come with a membership in an auto club because it leaves me feeling as though I will need to call for a tow truck every time I leave my home in it. We disabled have legal rights that are being denied by Medicare and Medicaid and those programs need to be made to comply with the A.D.A.

  • Pledge to VOTE OUT ANY SUPER-DELEGATE who pledges their vote to Hillary Clinton after Bernie Sand...
An Open Letter to All Super-delegates, On behalf of America's voters, As a firm believer in the power and goodness of American democracy, especially when it is given free reign, unimpeded by the corrupting influences of corporate financing or backroom power-politics, we implore you to use your Super-delegate status to back, and declare for, Bernie Sanders, should he win the popular vote in any Democratic primary. As we now know, a number of elected Democratic officials have promised their support to Hillary Clinton regardless of, and in opposition to, their constituents’ wishes and those constituents’ majority votes for Sanders. These are officials elected by The People, and who now defy the People’s mandate, presumably reflecting unknown and unknowable backroom deals and DNC favors, and in clear violation of their oath to carry out The People’s Will. In light of emerging coverage of dubious financial collusion between the National DNC and many (33) states’ Democratic Party chapters, we ask, even respectfully demand, that you honor the will of America’s voters in this most important caucus and election process, so that true Democracy prevails. Please continue to stand with the American voter, and we will continue to stand with you. Sincerely – America's Voters

  • Colorado Superdelegates: Be fair to your constituents.
On March 1st, despite overloaded caucus locations in counties with strong support for Bernie Sanders, Bernie recorded a 58% victory over Hillary. Yet, after adding in the "super" delegates from Colorado, it was a split decision. This is not the way democracy is supposed to work. Leaders should listen to their constituents. We are watching.

  • It's not funny Al. Change your commitment from Hillary to Bernie.
Super-delegates are a continuing cause for disenfranchisement in the Democratic Party, and they substantially affect the primary because they make Hillary's lead appear insurmountable. Enough is enough. The Super-delegates need to represent their voters or they need to find another job.

  • Make Election Day a Federal Holiday
The United States has a very low voter turnout compared to other countries. It's important that as many citizens as possible be given the opportunity to participate in our democracy by voting. Making election day a federal holiday will give significantly more people the opportunity to vote. Since it will replace Columbus Day, it won't generate any additional costs.

  • New York State Voter Registration Form Misled Voters!
It is the youth vote that is being disenfranchised in the New York State Primary Election because the New York State Voter Registration Form incorrectly states the deadline for voters to change their party affiliation. The young voters who don't have long-standing ties to a political party are the ones who will be turned away at the polls on April 19. There is no time to waste. Sign the petition now so they can vote in the Primary Election on April 19.

  • President Obama, what are you going to do about Arizona?
The people of Arizona have spoken. Public hearings have fleshed out stories of voter suppression in the form of long lines that people stood in only to leave or never make it to the polling booth, a shut out of "Independent" voters who make up 1/3 of the voting population in Arizona, a willful refusal on the part of The State of Arizona, in spite of many bills introduced, to hold an open primary, stories of 1 polling place for 100,000 students, cost cutting measures on the part of The State of Arizona in the form of an almost 75% reduction of polling places in Maricopa county as compared to the 2012 election, and questionable calling of the winner of the Democratic Party Primary--reports that Hillary Clinton won the primary with 1% of the vote counted and 10's of 1000's of people still in line who hadn't voted yet. Worst of all, the provisional ballots were not counted, and worse yet, The State of Arizona has no intention of counting them. This is not democracy and this will not stand. We The People have spoken and we DEMAND a re-vote at cost to the State of Arizona, or in the alternative, that the delegates, including the super delegates from Arizona, DO NOT get to participate in the democratic convention in July 2016.
