$1.4 BILLION of our taxes will be wasted shutting down and starting up the government (according to the Congressional Research Service). The U.S. will no longer be the most reliable creditor in the world, losing investors and causing interest rates we pay on credit cards, home, and business loans to increase. Social Security checks may not be paid, the doctor who sees Medicare patients won't get reimbursed, 1.4 million troops, 800,000 Pentagon workers, and many other government-run (parks, museums) and contract businesses will not get paid. Millions of jobs--and families--will be affected.

It's about time we move on to term limits because they really don't care any more what the people who have voted for them want. We don't want shutdowns--we want progress, not fighting. There are too many politicians who have been in too long. They get great benefits--better then the general public--and with their actions we get nothing but trouble.

Congress takes no responsibility for their actions. If their pay was tied to their irresponsibility, they might reconsider.

I know many people that can not afford health care and either just stay sick or go to the emergency room because they can't afford to go to the Doctor. It is unacceptable that we are one country that cares nothing for its citizens and thinks that people are expendable.

This statue needs to be removed. Jefferson Davis wasn't a hero, and he was imprisoned for dividing this country. Please sign this petition and support this campaign.

We all know how the gridlock in the U.S. House and U.S. Senate is affecting America. Like an ineffective management team in a company that needs to be fired and replaced with a new team, this is what we need to do in Congress! By pledging to NOT re-elect all of the incumbents, not only will this send a message, it will bring fresh air and new blood into Congress. We need to take action and elect individuals who will focus on what is good for the whole, rather than what is good for themselves! By taking this action, it will start the change that is needed!

The country is being held hostage by the Republican House's unreasonable demands for their laundry list of right-wing pet projects. John Boehner said they will refrain from causing a global economic crash if the President allows more oil drilling, drops various environmental regulations, defunds the Consumer Protection Bureau, and halts the implementation Affordable Care Act. We must not let Obama give in to these extremists' ultimatums!

Americans are under represented in the House of Representatives. The ratified Congressional Apportionment Amendment from the Bill of Rights clearly states we are to have one representative for every 50,000 people giving us a House that is locally represented, not regionally represented. A Representative that represents 50,000 people would be able to listen to the people and not have to listen to big money to win an election. This amendment was short just one states vote. Connecticut, we are told in history, never voted for the 12 amendments of the Bill of Rights. Their archivist, with the help of Constitutional Scholar Eugene Martin LaVergne of NJ can certify that Connecticut did in fact, vote for all 12 amendments in 1790 and by doing so, gives us the one state we are short. We have a ratified amendment waiting to be presented to Congress and our 28th amendment to the Constitution.

Because I am disgusted with the incompetence of our so-called Representatives. They are wasting our time and tax revenues by stalling and avoiding doing the work of the people while remaining comfortable, insured, fed and privileged. They are killing the greatness of America. My son, who is actually doing his job for the government every day, will be furloughed and he and his family will be deprived of his salary by a government shutdown and congress will not feel a thing. It is an outrage.

The elected officials trying to overturn a lawfully passed piece of legislation that was upheld by the Supreme Court, and the States who are refusing and/or attempting to interfere with the implementation of the Affordable Healthcare Act, are guilty of violating federal laws. First, they are guilty of rebellion or insurrection against the laws of the United States. Second, they are guilty of conspiring to hinder or delay the execution of a law of the U.S. By violating these law, which I've copied below, they can be fined, jailed, and forbidden to hold public office. What I want to know is why they are allowed to continue their efforts that can harm the financial standing of this country and cause harm to so many Americans? Current through Pub. L. 113-31. Whoever incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, or gives aid or comfort thereto, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States. Current through Pub. L. 113-31. (See Public Laws for the current Congress.) If two or more persons in any State or Territory, or in any place subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, conspire to overthrow, put down, or to destroy by force the Government of the United States, or to levy war against them, or to oppose by force the authority thereof, or by force to prevent, hinder, or delay the execution of any law of the United States, or by force to seize, take, or possess any property of the United States contrary to the authority thereof, they shall each be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than twenty years, or both.

Because the New York State Legislature failed to pass comprehensive campaign finance reform during its 2013 legislative session, Governor Cuomo created the Moreland Commission to Investigate Public Corruption with a charge to investigate the "show me the money" culture so pervasive at the Capitol, and to make recommendations in their initial report due on December 1st. The fact is that New York is in the grip of a political crime wave. Over the past few years, dozens of New York State elected officials have been arrested, indicted, convicted, or resigned in disgrace. But what's worse is the *legal* bribery that's happening every day in Albany. CEO campaign contributors are donating millions in return for public policy that ensures they continue to rake in huge profits - at the expense of ordinary New Yorkers like us. We must change this culture of corruption by changing the system. We need a system that put the needs of our communities first, encourages politicians to listen to their constituents, and lets everyday New Yorkers decide who represents them in government. We can have a system like that by passing comprehensive campaign finance reform that includes publicly financed elections. UPDATE (10/8) - According to news reports, the Commission might be negotiating a weak deal with the legislature that would prematurely end their investigation and put off real reform indefinitely. The members of the Commission need to hear from New Yorkers right now. Be sure to share this petition after you sign it!

This petition is to stop the onslaught of bigotry and racism that is being spewed forth by Rep. King. I am in his district, though he did not carry the county in which I reside, he is still my representative. I have heard nothing that he has said that in any way represents me, or anyone that I know, and strongly believe that the House of Representatives, and his constituents, will be much better, and more fairly, served by someone else.
