It is projected that 1,176 Georgians will die this year due to inaccessible healthcare. The remaining 500,000 who survive fall into a coverage gap, created by Governor Nathan Deal and the Georgia General Assembly when they voted to opt out of coverage expansion available through the Affordable Care Act, and almost 3.5 BB dollars. The cost, in terms of human lives, and human potential, however, is incalculable, quite staggering and incredibly devastating for the loved ones of Georgia’s victims. I know- I am one of many.

I believe that expanding medicaid is the right thing to do, especially when it's almost free. There are 54,000 people in Nebraska who do not have health coverage now and would if we accepted federal money to expand Medicaid. The Nebraska Unicameral voted against this last year. I have seen first hand the vast number of people/patients, with an array of conditions, whose quality of life would benefit immeasurably from access to this medicine.

It is firmly recognized that Anti-Psychotic medications sedate and may cause seizures, falls and even death in the elderly. Billions in fines have been paid by pharmaceutical companies to the federal government for illegal promotion targeting dementia patients, with untold waste of healthcare dollars and damage to elders' lives. Even with successful efforts at reduction, the use of anti-psychotics is frighteningly high. By Medicare data released last year, Connecticut still ranks last in New England and 34th in the nation for the usage of these meds. Since Senator Rand Paul is also a doctor, he has a duty to be extra careful in his statements about medical matters such as vaccination against measles. He has been irresponsible in putting politics above sound medical practice, and talked out of both sides of his mouth about vaccination against measles, trying to appear to say the right thing, while at the same time making unscientific statements designed to appeal to his right-wing fringe supporters. While all of the harm his statements have done cannot be reversed, the damage can be reduced by his retracting his incorrect, unscientific statements.
