  • Driving Privilege Cards improve public safety on the roads.
Safety on the roads is a top priority for everyone. If allowed to obtain a Driving Privilege Card, studies show undocumented drivers who have passed written, road, and eye tests are less likely to be involved in car accidents. Furthermore, Driving Privilege Cards will require these drivers to purchase car insurance and prove residence through proof of tax payments for two years. Driving Privilege Cards will thus improve the economy and increase tax revenue.

  • Arrested for washing his car while brown: Free Erick Rodriguez, A DACAmented dreamer!
Erick Rodriguez (A#204822213) is a DACAmented immigrant youth leader that is currently in ICE custody. On Saturday, Erick and his brother were simply washing their car when a policeman pulled up to them and claimed that they looked suspicious. After passing breathalyzers, they were handcuffed. Because of the boys’ race, the police tried to connect certain personal items found in the car with illicit activities, which were unfounded and incorrect. After being questioned extensively, the brothers asked for a lawyer. Later, they were taken to Washington County Detention Center. Erick’s brother was released, but Erick remains in ICE custody and is awaiting transfer to Louisiana where he can be deported any time. Erick graduated from Fayetteville High School and has been a longtime volunteer in both his church and his community. He is currently a participant in the Arkansas United Community Coalition’s leadership development program, Change Agents. Erick helps his mother with household expenses and taking care of his younger siblings. If he is deported, his family would face extreme economic hardship. In the past, Erick felt lost and inadequate due to his inability to be able to work legally. But DACA has made all of the difference in his life and he’s been able to find gainful employment. We still believe that we have the possibility of keeping this family together. Please sign this petition to push for the release of Erick under the stay of removal! Support Erick and his family as they tell ICE to stop collaborating with racial profiling. Free Erick Rodriguez!

  • Tell ICE: Release Melida and her 4-year-old daughter from more than 8 months of detention
WE NEED YOUR HELP! Melida and her daughter Estrella – who celebrated her 4th birthday in detention -- are asylum seekers from Guatemala who have now been incarcerated for more than 8 months. They are being held at the family detention facility in Karnes City, Texas, where 78 mothers recently initiated a hunger strike to protest prolonged detention and deplorable conditions. Melida also has a 10-year-old U.S. citizen daughter, a sister with a green card, and other family members all living in New York with whom she desperately wants to reunite, but ICE has refused to exercise its Prosecutorial Discretion to release her. Melida’s sister in law was murdered by a gang member in 2012 and her family testified against the murderer. He was convicted, and his family seeks revenge. Melida and Estrella have suffered horribly from more than 8 months in detention. Little Estrella was hospitalized for acute bronchitis and also suffered from acute pharyngitis, ear aches, fevers, diarrhea, and vomiting. Melida was diagnosed with PTSD, adjustment disorder with anxiety, and major depressive episode. For months she has watched helplessly as her child suffered. Melida has been fighting for protection under U.S. asylum law. But her time in detention has been too painful for her and her 4 year-old, and she can’t take detention any longer and is being driven to give up. No mother should have to choose between protecting herself from life threatening gangs or facing detention. Melida’s case exemplifies everything that is wrong with what ICE is doing to asylum-seeking families. ICE has the power to release her but won’t. If Prosecutorial Discretion means anything, it means Melida and Estrella should be released from Karnes. ACT TODAY! Don’t let Melida give up! Tell ICE to exercise Prosecutorial Discretion and release her!

  • URGENT: Calls Needed Again to Save Mumia Abu-Jamal's Life!
Stop the attempted murder of Mumia through medical neglect! Demand that Mumia be released to a hospital immediately! Keep the pressure on! APRIL 25, 2015 UPDATE: U R G E NT ►Mumia's Condition Grave Take Action NOW! On Friday, April 24, Mumia Abu-Jamal was visited by his spouse, Wadiya Jamal, who reported that his condition has worsened. She saw him again today and he appears even more gravely ill. Everyone is asked to call the prison and the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections immediately. If they hang up, call again. Please continue to call on Sunday, Monday and throughout the coming week. Mumia was released from the prison infirmary three days ago even though he was in no condition to be in general population. His request to be seen by independent medical specialists was denied by the PA Department of Corrections. Yet he is in need of 24-hour care and supervision. He is too weak and in this state he may not be able ask for help. He may lose consciousness. This is what happened before he was rushed to the hospital on March 30 when another prisoner, Major George Tillery, complained to the guards that Mumia needed immediate medical attention. In retaliation the prison moved Tillery to another unit. Mumia has severe swelling in his neck, chest and legs. His skin rash is worse than ever with open sores. No longer in a wheelchair, he can only take baby steps. He was nodding off during the visits with his wife and unable to feed himself. These are symptoms that could be associated with hyper glucose levels, diabetic shock, diabetic coma, and with kidney stress and failure. Please call the numbers below, and any other numbers you have for the Prison and the Governor. Along with Mumia's name his prison number is AM 8335 Call local news sources in your area that would report on this crisis. Share this email with your contact lists. Get out the information via any social media you use especially Facebook and Twitter using the hashtag #MumiaMustLive. Demand that prison officials call Mumia’s wife and his lawyer Bret Grote to discuss his condition. Demand that Mumia Abu-Jamal see a competent doctor immediately, that he be taken to the hospital for emergency care and not be left to go into a diabetic coma. It is clear that Pennsylvania prison officials are intent on carrying out their plans to murder Mumia through medical neglect. This situation is urgent. Every call matters Every action matters. We need to be in the streets. Call your friends, your neighbors. We must speak out now before it’s too late. 1) John Wetzel Secretary of the Deparment of Corrections [email protected] 717-728-4109 • 717-728-4178 Fax 1920 Technology Pkwy, Mechanicsburg PA 17050 2) John Kerestes, Superintendent SCI Mahanoy: 570-773-2158 x8102 570-783-2008 Fax 301 Morea Road, Frackville PA 17932 3) Tom Wolf, PA Governor: 717-787-2500 • [email protected] 508 Main Capitol Building, Harrisburg PA 17120 Susan McNaughton, Public Information Office PA DOC DOC Press secretary: 717-728-4025 PA DOC [email protected] [email protected] Department of Corrections Deputy Press Secretary 717-728-4109 • 717-728-4178 Fax 1920 Technology Pkwy, Mechanicsburg PA 17050 Public Information Officer, SCI Mahanoy, Jane Hinman 570-773-2158; then dial zero SCI Mahanoy: 570-773-2158 x8102 • 570-783-2008 Fax 301 Morea Road, Frackville PA 17932 Central Office by phone: (717) 728-2573 Michael Klopotoski, Deputy Secretary Eastern Region (717) 728-4122 or 4123 Theron Perez, Chief Counsel, PA Department of Corrections (717) 728-7763 Shirley Moore Smeal, Executive Deputy Secretary (717) 728-4110 PA Department of Corrections General, News, etc: [email protected]

  • Governor Robert Bentley: Drop Alabama from the Texas lawsuit attacking immigrant families!
My name is Judith and I live in Tuscaloosa, Alabama with my husband and 3 children Hannia, Ashley and Lupita who are American citizens. Alabama has been our home for the last 13 years. We lived through horrific times when thousands of immigrant families fled Alabama and thousands more lived in constant fear because Governor Bentley signed into law HB 56 the harshest anti-immigrant law in the nation. My husband and I could fix our immigration status under the administrative relief on immigration announced by President Obama and for the first time we would be able to live without the constant fear of being deported and torn apart from our 3 girls. However Alabama Governor Robert Bentley and Attorney General Luther Strange have signed onto the Texas lawsuit against the President’s administrative relief, blocking us from applying for this basic protection. Once again, our families are being scapegoated because politicians can’t come up with real solutions to fixing our state’s economic problems. There are around 25 thousand undocumented immigrants like us living in Alabama who could also have a chance to come forward, apply, pay taxes and fees, and eventually obtain temporary permits to work legally, drive safer, and live without the daily fear of being separated from their family. With Congress failing to pass comprehensive immigration reform, President Obama took a first step towards fixing our broken immigration system by offering a temporary protection from deportation to certain parents of American citizens and legal permanent residents and youth who were brought to America when they were children. Alabama already spent taxpayer dollars defending its unconstitutional anti-immigrant law HB 56 and as a result, lost millions in court costs and tax revenues. Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley keeps wasting needed money from our state’s general fund by once again attacking and scapegoating our immigrant communities. Most legal experts agree that this lawsuit is a political stunt and has no legal merit. In contrast enabling immigrants who qualify for administrative relief to register with the government and apply for a temporary work permit could increase Alabama’s tax revenues by $38.6 million, over five years, and lead to a cascade of economic benefits. Tell Gov. Robert Bentley to withdraw Alabama’s name from the Texas vs. United States lawsuit and stop attacking our families.

  • Demand Legal Representation for Undocumented Children that are Unaccompanied
The dramatic increase in the number of undocumented children who are unaccompanied, and the unfair legal process through which they must go in order to stay legally in the U.S., is disturbing. Insufficient access to legal representation in their immigration proceedings practically puts these children from Central America and Mexico, held in U.S. federal custody, at a disadvantage. Eventually this ruthless event practically dictates their deportation. After their undeserved repatriation, they once again face dangers and problems including human trafficking, violence, crime, and the abuse from which they fled from the beginning. Such occurrences are creating a vicious cycle, and the ones who continuously get hurt both physically and mentally are children. As a nation, it is our moral obligation and responsibility to care and protect the rights of undocumented children who come by themselves, but we have failed to do so. Unfortunately, the American values and the “best interest” of children in due process have been undermined. To flip the page, our government must increase its efforts to address the issue. The U.S. government, in coordination with state and local courts, should establish a better mechanism in order to provide free legal support to every single undocumented child. In addition, they should prohibit, and sanctions must be applied to, any legal proceeding that takes place involving an unaccompanied child who has no assistance whatsoever.

  • Governor Mike Pence and Attorney General Greg Zoeller: End Indiana's Opposition to DAPA
On behalf of the Northern Indiana Coalition For Immigration Reform, we call upon Indiana Governor Mike Pence and Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller to withdraw our state's amicus filing in the Federal case of Texas v United States that seeks to end President Obama's executive order providing administrative relief for millions of immigrants. We further call upon our state's government to join with those states, cities, Members of Congress, Labor and community organizations that are calling upon Federal courts to uphold President Obama's executive order that established the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA) and the expansion of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). It does not serve the interests of the people of Indiana for our state to seek to overturn President Obama's executive order that will allow immigrant families to stay together, come out of the shadows and be full members of our communities.

  • Scott Walker and Chris Christie Are Joining Forces to Attack 5 Million Immigrants
Two Republican Presidential hopefuls, Gov. Scott Walker and Gov. Chris Christie, have joined forces to attack an estimated 5 million immigrants with deep roots in their communities. Last November, after months of pressure from millions of immigration reform activists, President Obama announced two new immigration policies to protect millions of people who grew up in America without papers and parents of U.S. citizens who don’t have an immigration status from deportation. This was one of the biggest wins for the immigrant community in nearly a generation, but Gov. Walker and Gov. Christie have joined a host of Republican governors and state attorneys general on a bogus and mean-spirited lawsuit designed to delay the implementation of these new programs. I’m so sick of Republicans playing politics with the lives of so many people. Please join me in demanding that Gov. Walker and Gov. Christie withdraw their support for the bogus lawsuit attacking immigrant youth and undocumented parents of US citizens.

  • Gov. Cuomo: Keep Your DREAM Act Promise!
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo promised to make the DREAM Act a reality for undocumented students -- and now he’s all set to walk it back. When Gov. Cuomo was running for reelection, he told DREAMers he’d put the legislation in his budget this year and finally help their college dreams come true. As recently as last week, Governor Cuomo was still promoting the DREAM Act, first in a speech to local groups, and then in an op-ed in the New York Post. But this week, Governor Cuomo announced he would be removing the DREAM Act from the budget because he and the Republican Senate Majority Leader could not come to an agreement. Undocumented students have been waiting for three years for New York to pass the DREAM Act. Is Gov. Cuomo really going to break his campaign promise now? The DREAM Act is good for the State of New York. It would allow more young immigrants to access a quality college education, resulting in better jobs for themselves and their families. A handful of obstructionists in the State Senate shouldn’t stop those dreams from coming true. Tell Gov. Cuomo it’s time to make good on his promise, stop Republican obstruction, and lead.

  • Tell ICE: Free Yuliana's Dad!
"As an educator for 24 years, I often see how the breakdown of the family impacts a child's education as well as their outlook on the future. Strong family units provide children with stability and support they need to become productive citizens. It is that love and encouragement from the parents that ensures their children a bright and successful life. It is my hope that Yuliana's family stay intact allowing her and her siblings the opportunity to grow and learn through the support of both parents." - Mrs. Honeycutt, 6th grade teacher
