• New Providence Playing Fields: Finding the Best Solutions
New Providence is proposing to renovate Grove Park and Oakwood Park playing fields by replacing natural grass with synthetic turf, fencing in the park, installing field lights and increasing the parking footprint. We appreciate the need for sustainable playing fields in New Providence, especially for children's sports. We respectfully request that the Borough Council thoroughly considers the effects of these proposed changes on the people who use these parks as well as the areas surrounding the field before moving forward. Our collective voice includes concerned parents, property owners, town residents, neighbors and athletes. Some of us live quite close to these parks. Others of us use these parks for recreational activities that span a wide range. Still others are concerned about the precedent that these proposed changes will have on future Borough public endeavors. We appreciate the Borough Council’s proposal to meet the needs of athletes in New Providence, and we request that the following points are duly considered before any renovations begin: • Property values and any negative effects resulting from these proposed renovations. • Safety issues with regard to increased car traffic to the residential areas surrounding these parks. • Environmental impacts with regard to water flow, the woodlands and aesthetics of the areas near the park. • Health effects with regard to the proposed synthetic playing surface, especially for children. • Lighting impacts and pollution, especially for those living nearest to the field. • Access to natural areas surrounding the park. We appreciate the Borough Council’s efforts in insuring the safety and quality of life for the residents and the athletes who use this public space.

  • Please Enact HR-4382 to save Meals on Wheels
Due to the continuing Illinois budget crisis, DuPage County Senior Citizens Council announced on 01-08-2016 that the 700 - 800 very poor and/or disabled homebound seniors who receive Meals on Wheels five times a week will now receive them only twice a week. Eight dining centers which serve an additional 300 - 400 seniors will close. This bill, introduced by State Rep. Deb Conroy, will restore much-needed funding for such programs throughout the State.

  • Delay of Funding and Approval for Lee Walker Heights Public Housing Redevelopment
The African-American community has been devastated by urban renewal and redevelopment with policy initiatives which further systemic racism, exclusion and policies which have left it in economic, social, and cultural ruin. Many of us have lost our homes and businesses and a sense of place in Asheville as the result of urban renewal. We have nothing left to loose. It is time to stop accepting this condition as hopeless.

  • MBTA Peoples Vote (#MBTAVote): NO Hikes, NO Cuts - Save our T NOW! #rMBTA #FightTheHike
SIGN NOW to cast your #mbtavote for TRU's alternate budget -- NO HIKES, NO CUTS! LEARN MORE: fb.com/tridersunion For more than 15 years, the short-sighted, poor decision-making of our elected officials has created a financial disaster for the MBTA. Repeatedly cutting funding and pushing enormous costs onto riders through fare increases and service cuts has brought our system to the brink of collapse. Now Governor Baker and his MBTA Control Board want to go further, by raising fares twice as high as allowed by law, cutting services that our most vulnerable riders depend on like The Ride, blocking the release of funding required by the 2013 Transportation Act, and dismantling our system for parts to sell to corporate interests. This needs to stop - public transit is a public good! It’s time to build a world-class public transportation system that serves EVERY rider, protects our health and environment, strengthens our economy, and supports the growing needs of a robust and thriving region. • Blight crisis in Detroit
My grandparents live at 8340 Central and they have since 1965. Their neighborhood looks like a war zone. When I was a kid, that community was thriving with big brick colonial houses. Now my grandmother is embarrassed by what has happened to her community over the years. No one should be a prisoner in her own home. Duggan said Detroit wasn't in the "demolition business." Why not?

  • Habitability Laws Must Be Enforced to Maintain a Decent Standard of Living for all Human Beings
Tenants rights have been violated regularly within the state of New Jersey and many other states with basically no assistance from the local or state watchdogs. There are many documented cases of abuses where the tenants are not protected within their municipalities, the state, and the superior court. Our rights must be protected to ensure that the habitability laws are enforced so that our lives are protected from unscrupulous landlords/slumlords who have no regard for human life or condition.
