• Support Fair Rent
Hardworking people are being driven from their homes or working 80+ hours in order to barely survive. Rental cost controls should be based on demographic regional data and basic quality of life measurements. If the minimum wage is $7.50 per hour before taxes, that totals $1,200 per month, so a small efficiency or one-bedroom should be between $400-$600 per month. Online tools already exist for renters and tenants to rate each other, which may include both subjective and non-subjective sections.

  • Keep METRO Route 40 intact
This petition has been created to allow residents of the Woodland Heights to voice their concern over pending changes to the existing bus route. The current route has worked for years and provides easy access to all residents of the neighborhood. Moving the route to the perimeter of the neighborhood would create an unnecessary burden for current Metro travelers. We want the current 40 route to remain intact.

  • Rezone - Rosebank, Clifton, Shore Acres and Ft. Wadsworth
Areas of Rosebank, Fort Wadsworth, Clifton and Shore Acres have zoning that does not reflect the character of the existing homes. Single family homes, large properties can be bulldozed, and be replaced with multiple homes or massive townhouse developments. Our infrastructure ( sewer system, schools, emergency services and traffic) is already over-capacity. Overdevelopment can be prevented with contextual zoning, which has been done successfully throughout New York City. CB1 must begin this process by submitting a rezoning application immediately.

  • Save the San Francisco Mission.
San Francisco voters and concerned citizens demand that drastic actions be taken to protect our historical heritage and the cultural diversity that makes San Francisco unique. Artists and cultural institutions are being phased out by high rents and illegal conversions of PDR spaces and taking the heart and soul of San Francisco with them. We need to take time out from non-stop development to resolve the affordability issues, traffic and infrastructure problems, and plan for a brighter, more just and equitable future. This moratorium will allow us to rest and resolve some of these problems that were brought on by building too much too fast. Planning Commissioners and other government administrators are overwhelmed and asking for tools that they can use to help resolve the problems. It is up to our elected officials to give them those tools, starting with this action.

  • Mandate Supermarkets Donate Surplus Food
I am concerned about the waste in our country. Our charities are desperate for food, our landfills are filling up at alarming rates. I'm encouraged by the French parliament's unanimous approval of this new law and think that this can be replicated all over the world.

  • Skatepark
The roads in this town, Streator, IL, are already damaged and disintegrating. So why would you want kids skating and biking on already cruddy roads that are hard to drive on?? Wouldn't it make more sense to build a skatepark, rather than 20 more softball fields? The skaters and bikers NEED somewhere to go!!! We're tired of having to go to Ottawa just to ride my board or bike. It's about time this place got serious.

  • Education for Foster Children
I serve on the board of a CASA program that serves foster children by providing them with volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocates. Many foster kids have no relative who can take them in when they have been abused or neglected by their loved ones and/or perpetrators, so they become wards of the state. They "age out" of the foster care system at 18 years of age. When foster parents are no longer paid monthly stipends to keep these kids, then many foster kids can become homeless while still attending high school. If foster kids know they will be eligible for at least 2 years of college or trade school, it will give them hope for the future and incentive to complete high school.

  • Congress: Fully Fund Amtrak
Just days after the House of Representatives voted to cut a quarter of a billion dollars from Amtrak's budget, a group of nine senators stood to announce their support for fully funding Amtrak. Calling the recent derailment in Philadelphia a "harrowing and deadly" reminder of the need to invest in passenger rail, the new Senate legislation calls on Congress to provide $2 billion in funding that Amtrak has said it needs to keep passengers safe and to fix what's broken.[1] Tell Congress: fix what's broken and keep passengers safe. • Save High Speed Rail in Texas
A Texas company has proposed building a high speed rail line linking Dallas and Houston using no public funding, but opponents succeeded in adding a "rider" to the state budget which would prohibit the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) from even engaging in safety and engineering oversight of the project. That oversight is required, so the rider would effectively kill the high speed rail line. High speed rail will help take cars off the road, reducing pollution and traffic, and provide an alternative for travelers. The state should be expediting the project, not putting up barriers. The budget conference committee should remove the rider from the final budget and let plans for high speed rail proceed.
