• Tell Your Members of Congress to Prioritize Child Nutrition
The Child Nutrition Act was originally passed in 2010 and will expire on September 30th if not reauthorized by Congress. The act ensures funding for critical programs like WIC, summer meals for kids, reduced price and free lunch and breakfast programs at schools, and more. Too many working moms are struggling to put food on the table for their kids. In fact, in 2013, 15.8 million children in the United States lived in a food insecure household. It's a huge weight off our shoulders if we know our kids will have access to healthy snacks and meals while we are at work. We need to improve childhood nutrition, reduce hunger, and help working families ensure that their children get the healthy food they need. Urge your Members of Congress to prioritize child nutrition to make sure all kids have a chance to thrive.

  • Expand Social Security for All
The Petition is to expand Social Security. This petition will give momentum to a national conversation that will bust the myths surrounding Social Security promulgated by the Koch Brothers Foundation that morphed into the CATO Institute. I was inspired after reading Social Security Works All Generations Plan because it impacts the entire Obama Coalition & is a dynamite GOTV plan.

  • All-Way Stop Signs to Protect OUR Children
Years of asking for either speeds bumps or traffic lights have not come to fruition and have had the Fire Department oppose both. We recently had a fatality and there have been numerous accidents due to the high speed going past this elementary and pre-school location. The Police Commissioner agrees with the all-way stops signs along with our Senator, Delegate and City Council Representative.

  • Solebury Supervisors: Please Listen to Your Constituents!
On May 5 the Solebury Board of Supervisors pledged to not proceed with the funding of a new public works building if bids exceeded the $2.7 million authorized. Yet a narrow majority of the supervisors voted to proceed despite a bid that is already $122,000 over budget for a loosely defined project that is reduced in scale and neglects hundreds of thousands of dollars in additional costs that Solebury taxpayers will be forced to pay for. This is not financially responsible nor is it truthful.

  • Help 9-1-1: Require Companies to Obtain Subscriber Info
As a former 9-1-1 Dispatcher, I know the importance of subscriber information. We need to urge the FCC to improve and assist our community and local 9-1-1 Centers by requiring companies to obtain subscriber information at the time of a phone purchase. This helps 9-1-1 know where the caller lives, and they can then send help to that location if they have nothing else to work on.

  • Step Stools for Tots
To provide equal access for kids using public restrooms. As a parent I faced challenges lifting my kids up to the sink. Now, as a grandparent the task is even more difficult. It must be mandated that stores provide clean, safe and stable step stools in each of their public restrooms.

  • Don't allow developers to ignore our Small Area Plans and destroy the character of our neighborhoods
The Linden Hills neighborhood spent $60,000 and 18 months of neighborhood meetings working with the City to write a Small Area Plan that provides a policy framework to guide developers proposing new buildings. The Linden Hills Small Area Plan is now part of the Minneapolis Plan for Sustainable Growth, which is intended to "protect the character and stability of residential areas within the city and to promote the orderly and beneficial development of those areas." The proposed building for 43rd & Upton is inconsistent with the Linden Hills Small Area Plan and is out of scale and character with surrounding uses. Against the wishes of the neighborhood, the developer wants a conditional use permit (CUP) to build a four-story 56' building (with parapet) that is 14 feet taller than C1 zoning allows as of right (42' without a CUP) now. The overall height of 56' is the maximum allowed for a four-story building in a C2 zone, but this corner is zoned C1 and the height limit is 42’. The proposed 19' height for the first floor alone is out of scale with all the adjacent buildings, and taller than the first-floor height of any previous proposal for this corner. This proposal is detrimental to the neighborhood and injurious to the use and enjoyment of other property in downtown Linden Hills. Approving a conditional use permit would also set a precedent that would lead to effectively rezoning the other parcels in our C1 zone to C2 without the required legal process of public hearings. If the City grants this CUP, the builder will be allowed to ignore and bypass the vision and goals in the Linden Hills Small Area Plan, as well as the guidelines for height, setbacks, and transition areas between adjacent properties.

  • Stop punishing children born into poverty: Sign SB 23, Gov. Brown
Please join our interfaith coalition in asking Gov. Brown to sign Senate Bill 23, which will repeal the Maximum Family Grant rule. Right now, a child who is born into an impoverished family that already receives CalWORKs assistance receives no additional benefits – not even the modest additional benefit of $128 a month to help provide the things all young children need. (State law provides for a very few exemptions for children conceived as a result of rape or incest, or from the failure of certain types of birth control – forcing a mother to disclose personal and confidential medical information in order to receive aid for the newborn.) This harsh rule was instituted in the 1990's with the supposed goal of reducing birthrates among impoverished parents. There is no evidence that this has happened. Instead the policy has harmed children, driving families deeper into extreme poverty and homelessness and subjecting little ones to long-term negative consequences during their most vulnerable years. Our state is wealthy - the seventh largest economy in the world, yet 27 percent of our children live in poverty - the highest rate in the nation. Surely we can do better by our children. Repealing the Maximum Family Grant rule is a good place to start. Please sign this petition today and let Gov. Brown know where you stand.
