Since October 2023, Gaza has become the deadliest place for journalists in modern history, with the United Nations reporting that at least 247 journalists (estimates could be higher) nearly all Palestinian were killed by Israeli military attacks as of August 2025.    These targeted killings, combined with repeated strikes on newsrooms and media offices, have wiped out generations of reporters, devastated families, and left the Palestinian population with only a handful of surviving witnesses willing to document the realities of what's going on in Gaza. The world’s ability to know what is happening in Gaza relies almost entirely on the courage of local journalists, as the Israeli government has banned nearly all foreign media from entering the strip. By systematically silencing Palestinian reporters—often under the pretext of “security”—the Israeli government is not only violating international law but also gravely restricting press freedom, humanitarian oversight, and any evidence for accountability at the international level.   Journalistic efforts to document atrocities, defend civilian lives, and call for humanitarian access become nearly impossible without their work.  Killing journalists is an attack not just on individuals, but on the ability to speak truth itself.    Protecting reporters in Gaza is urgent not only for their lives, but for the world’s right to witness, understand, and respond to this ongoing humanitarian crisis.

This is what DC looks like amidst Trump's National Guard deployments. Under current law, Trump’s takeover automatically expires after 30 days — but Trump’s lackeys in Congress are rushing to extend his DC takeover. Two pieces of legislation are raising alarms: Rep. Anna Paulina Luna’s (R-FL) H.J.Res. 114 would declare a “crime emergency” in DC and allow Trump’s takeover to continue indefinitely; Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) has introduced H.R. 5105 to amend the DC Home Rule Act to automatically extend any emergency period in DC to six months — and to apply that new standard retroactively to the current sham “emergency.” Trump’s armed troops aren’t making anyone safer. If Republicans successfully push these bills through the House, only united Senate opposition can stop Trump’s authoritarian power grab — and that’s why we’re putting every lawmaker on alert today. Congress must reject ANY efforts to strip away DC’s autonomy and normalize Trump’s militarized power grab — and it’ll take pressure from constituents like you to make that happen.

The involvement of a church in political agendas threatens its role as a community haven and spiritual sanctuary. Religion should be a refuge from the tumult of political differences, not a contributor. Allowing political summits within religious institutions can further polarize our communities, fracturing unity by aligning spiritual beliefs with political objectives. Calvary Chapel's participation in such political engagement could potentially jeopardize its tax-exempt status, risking its future support and services for the local community, and setting a dangerous precedent for other religious entities. It is crucial to uphold the sanctity and singular purpose of religious institutions by preventing them from becoming tools in partisan politics. Let us protect the church's role as a place of worship and spiritual guidance, free from political entanglements. It is very important for children to have their fathers in their lives especially little girls. I have three daughters that need me in their lives, I also have an elderly mother that is dealing with my disabled little brother on her own that really needs me there, also.

I am writing to you today as a deeply concerned Minnesotan and a parent. Within our community, we faced the horrifying reality of a school shooting. This could have been us, and the fact that it wasn't this time doesn't diminish the urgency of the moment. We cannot continue to live with the constant fear that our children are not safe in their schools and arming our teachers or paying for police is not the answer.  We can solve this in better ways. The United States is an outlier. We are the leading country in the world for school shootings. This is a statistic we should all find unacceptable. As of August 27, 2025, there have been at least 44 school shootings this year alone. This isn't an issue of mental health being exclusive to the U.S.; other countries, face similar mental health challenges but do not experience the same epidemic of gun violence. The difference is clear: they have enacted comprehensive gun control measures.

When Senator Bernie Sanders forced a vote on two joint resolutions of disapproval (JRDs) to halt key weapons transfers to the Israeli government last month, the following 26 senators joined him: Senators Alsobrooks, Baldwin, Blunt Rochester, Duckworth, Durbin, Heinrich, Hirono, Kaine, Kim, King, Klobuchar, Lujan, Markey, Merkley, Murphy, Murray, Schatz, Shaheen, Smith, Van Hollen, Warnock, Warren, Welch, Ossoff, Reed, and Whitehouse. This leadership is crucially needed as momentum grows to end U.S. complicity in the incomprehensible suffering in Gaza. Already, Trump’s attempted cuts to the Institute of Museum and Library Services have been disastrous—gutting the agency and terminating over 1,000 grants. And now he’s turning his sights to the Smithsonian as part of his administration’s attacks on diversity, equity, and inclusion—laying the groundwork to keep attacking other publicly funded museums nationwide.  And make no mistake: Censoring institutions like museums is right out of the authoritarian playbook as a means of controlling the public narrative, promoting propaganda, and spreading disinformation. Costco has announced that its pharmacies will NOT dispense mifepristone—a safe, FDA-approved abortion pill used in the majority of abortions nationwide. This dangerous decision is a concession to anti-abortion extremists, not a reflection of what customers or patients need. Mifepristone is an overwhelmingly safe medication—even safer than other commonly prescribed low-risk drugs like penicillin and Viagra. Millions of patients have used it, and it remains a cornerstone of reproductive health care. By refusing to get certified to sell mifepristone, Costco is caving to political pressure from far-right extremists and prioritizing their demands over the needs of customers and patients. This decision sets a dangerous precedent where corporations can make decisions about what legal medications people are allowed to access. Patients deserve safe, affordable, and accessible health care.
