Save our Florida State Parks and PreservesPlease tell the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) NOT to give the City of Port St Lucie a permit (Permit #56-03461-P) for the Crosstown Parkway six-lane highway and bridge for Route 1C to go through two Florida State Preserves. Allowing this bridge to go through two State Preserves sets a precedent that puts ALL State Parks in the United States in jeopardy of becoming paved over. The required environmental study says this route, which crosses the North Fork of the State Lucie River Aquatic Preserve and the Savannas Preserve State Park’s Halpatiokee Nature Trail, is the WORST route environmentally. The law says the least impacting alternative route must be chosen unless there is an exceptional and extraordinary circumstance, which in this case there is not. There are few natural areas left in urban settings. These two Forida state preserves have endangered, threatened and species of concern, and are essential fish habitats. This area helps to keep our Florida waters clean and is important for Eco-tourism. Please sign our petition to tell the SFWMD NOT to issue Permit #56-03461-P.572 of 600 SignaturesCreated by John Krivosheyff

Sen Tillis: Don't stand in our way!Article II, Section 2 lays out the Senate's role in providing advice and consent to the President regarding his nominee to the Supreme Court. In the past 60 years, every nominee has had a hearing before Congress. This year should be no different. Unfortunately, Senate Republicans, including our own North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis, have already said they will not consider any nominee to the Supreme Court whom President Obama delivers to them. By refusing to consider any nominee before any are even put forward, Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee are clearly violating their constitutional duty to the American people. Next week arguments will be heard in the Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstadt case. The verdict in the case may impact whether opponents of abortion will continue to pursue their strategy of attacking providers as a way to stop access to legal abortion, and will have far-reaching consequences right here in North Carolina. Playing politics with women's health isn't just wrong, it's dangerous.2,350 of 3,000 SignaturesCreated by Kevin J. Rogers, Action NC

Federal Bill - Simon's LawSimon was a living, breathing human being, who brought incredible joy to his family…he did NOT deserve to die. On September 7, 2010, Simon was born with a bilateral cleft lip. 3 days later, he was officially diagnosed with “Full Trisomy 18,” also known as Edward’s syndrome. His parents wanted Simon to have every opportunity to thrive and survive. Someone else decided Simon’s life didn’t have value. Care was withheld. Simon was given only "comfort feedings" which basically means he was slowly starving to death. A Do-Not-Resusitate (DNR) order was placed in his chart, without his parents' knowledge or consent. Ultimately, his parents wishes and cries for help were ignored. We want to make sure this doesn’t happen to another child. In our opinion, no one loves their child more than their parent and only the parents should have the right to make those life or death decisions. Simon’s Law will protect the rights of parents concerning any life-sustaining medical choices for their minor children. So if your child suffers life threatening injuries only you, as their parents, would have the right to make those decisions regarding life or death instead of a medical professional, a stranger, you just met for the first time. We are asking you to please support Federal Bill similar to Missouri's HB 1915 - Simon’s Law. After all, shouldn’t every child have the opportunity to thrive and survive?33 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Rights for Savannah

Tell Rep. Bruce Poliquin To Stand Up for the Environment and Not For Polluters- Sign The Petition!Bruce Poliquin’s voting record and beliefs are reckless and a threat to Maine’s environment and, by extension, its economy. Not only did he vote to dismantle efforts to tackle climate change, and to block drinking water protections for one in three Americans, he also questions the basis of global warming. He consistently votes with polluters, Wall Street, and big banks and NOT with Maine people and the environment. Emily Cain is running for Congress to represent the 2nd district because she understands that Maine’s economic health depends on the strength of her environment. Our economy’s foundation is built on a healthy environment: tourism, hunting, agriculture and fishing remain pillars of our state’s economy and our traditional way of life. Bruce Poliquin’s refusal to acknowledge our role in global warming and his votes for big polluters put our environment and good Maine jobs at risk.30 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Emily Cain

SIGN THE PETITION: Oakland police, caught on video killing my brotherOakland police killed my brother Hernan Jaramillo in front of my house and hid the video of his killing from the public for 2 and half years. The officers beat him to the ground in street, dragged his body 20 feet, and pinned him down with all of their weight on top him -- ignoring him as he repeatedly cried out, “I can’t breathe...they’re killing me,” for 15 minutes -- until his body laid lifeless on the sidewalk in handcuffs.(1) Hernan was an innocent, unarmed man who wasn’t doing anything wrong when police killed him. There hasn’t been a public investigation into his death or any charges against the police who killed him. And the Oakland Police Department refuses to answer any questions about his death at all! Now that the video of his killing has been leaked to the public, this is our chance to finally demand justice for my brother. Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf has the power to force an investigation and demand accountability, but we need thousands of people to join me and my family to speak out now if we are going to have a fighting chance at justice! 1. http://www.contracostatimes.com/breaking-news/ci_29435600/oakland-body-camera-shows-man-screamed-i-cant and http://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/johnson/article/Can-there-be-lesson-for-police-in-senseless-death-6799438.php359 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Ana Biocini, for Courage Campaign Institute

Tell NV Governor Brian Sandoval to Stand Up for Clean Power! The Supreme Court recently voted to stop implementation of the Clean Power Plan (cutting carbon pollution from fossil fuel power plants) until legal challenges are heard. But climate change is not taking a timeout while the courts ponder. The Arctic won’t stop melting, the oceans will not stop rising, storms will not become less intense, asthma rates won’t come down, and record temperatures won’t cool while lawyers debate. Despite the Supreme Court decision, states can--and must--continue planning for a rapid transition to clean power. With the impacts of climate change intensifying, our kids and grandkids can’t afford any delay in moving as quickly as possible to a clean energy future. So far governors from more than a dozen states, from Washington to New Hampshire, have said they are moving forward to develop their state clean power plans. Unfortunately, Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval--who is being vetted by President Obama to fill the Supreme Court vacancy--has not yet made this commitment. Please sign the petition telling Governor Sandoval to move forward now with a strong state clean power plan to combat climate change.75 of 100 SignaturesCreated by John Friedrich

Tell MSNBC: Fire "Morning Joe" hosts for supporting Trump's hate and violenceMSNBC hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski are using their positions as TV commentators to actively support Donald Trump’s candidacy – and they just got caught. They recently used their position on MSNBC to hold a “town hall” with only Trump. That’s bad enough, but a recording just leaked of Scarborough and Brzezinski talking in between commercial breaks, like friends who are on the same team. Brzezinski asks whether she should ask questions about deportation: “Do you not want me to do, the um, the ones with, um, deportation?” Trump says “Nothing too hard, Mika,” and Mika says “Okay.” No questions about deportation were asked. At another point, Trump says “This will make us all look good,” to which Scarborough replies “Exactly.” Scarborough and Brzezinski aren’t coming right out and saying they’re for Trump. Instead, they’re using their position on MSNBC to act like journalists, but shape media coverage so that it helps Trump. It’s completely unacceptable, especially given Trump’s racist demonization of Latinos, and his encouragement of violence against those who oppose him. It's an embarrassment for the network and it should embarrass corporate sponsors that their money is reinforcing hate, racism and violence. Join us in telling executives at NBC and MSNBC that if they want to have any credibility with Latinos, they need to take Scarborough and Brzezinski off the air, and replace them with someone who will challenge Trump’s violent and racist rhetoric, not support it.209 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Presente.org

U.S. politicians: 100% Renewable Energy by 2050I am starting this petition because I believe that Climate Change is the greatest threat that humanity has ever faced. If radical steps are not taken immediately to make the switch from fossil fuels to Renewable energy technologies like wind and solar, the undeniable and inevitable environmental consequences will produce effects unlike anything the world has ever seen. We owe it to all future generations and the world. If you agree, join or support #Greenpeace Earth Day Clean Energy Campaign and send a message to our political representatives.78 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Jennifer Lacy

Tell WMATA's Board of Directors: Don't Put MetroAccess Services in JeopardyThe Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority provides safe, quality public paratransit through MetroAccess so that everyone can get where they need to go, like work, the doctor’s office or just to run errands. The staff is friendly and well-trained and the vehicle fleet is adequately equipped to provide a high level of service to persons with disabilities. But now, WMATA is considering contracting with companies like Uber and Lyft to provide these services to communities in the metropolitan Washington, D.C., area. This is concerning because neither company ensures drivers have adequate access for wheelchair-accessible vehicles. This partnership also may lead to the creation of a system that will segregate passengers into those with mobility challenges and those without—leading to a lower class of service for wheelchair users. The working conditions and regulation of Uber and Lyft also bring into question if they are the right fit to provide public transportation services. We applaud WMATA for making efforts to give passengers quality transportation options. Now, it’s up to us as riders to make sure the solutions it implements will work for all passengers, prioritize safety and promote good working conditions and decent wages.39 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Nadia Ibrahim, Ms. Wheelchair Maryland 2016

If Fourth-Year Presidents Shouldn't Do Things, How About Sixth-Year Senators? This petition will go to all of the U.S. Senators who are in the last year of their six-year term and who have said they will not allow a vote to fill the Supreme Court vacancy because President Obama is in the last year of his term. From the Huffington Post: President Barack Obama is in the last year of his second term, Republican senators argue, so he should no longer have a say in something so important as who sits on the Supreme Court. Let's wait for the voters to weigh in this fall, they say. But Obama isn't the only elected official in the last year of his term who has a key role in choosing the next justice, whose party may or may not hold onto his power post, and who generally makes consequential decisions. The GOP logic seems to be that voters may have changed their minds about what sorts of leaders they want over the past three years, so rather than let Obama function for his full four-year term, the Senate should stall him. Beyond the Supreme Court vacancy, Republicans have also refused to hold hearings on Obama's budget, and one senator had himself recorded throwing Obama's final proposal to close the Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, prison base into the trash. If after a mere three years, however, Obama has lost his mandate, what about those other elected officials who haven't gone before the voters in five years? There are 34 senators serving the final years of their six-year terms. Ten of them are Democrats, and 24 are Republicans, including at least seven facing difficult re-election fights. One of those going before the voters this fall is Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which in theory holds hearings on Supreme Court nominees. The logic that says a president shouldn't be allowed to make a consequential appointment in his final year would seem to indicate those "lame duck" senators shouldn't be allowed to cast consequential votes. One might even suggest that argument is stronger against senators, who are one among one hundred, than against the singular president.3,693 of 4,000 SignaturesCreated by Michael Morrill
