• Let's start the discussion
I go to concerts and malls and wonder if something might happen. I worry about my nieces and nephews going to movies and classes. I don't want more guns in more peoples' hands to stop shooters; that's more craziness. I want to teach people better coping skills and more empathy. And its not just those with psychological issues. Easy access to guns makes shooting someone too easy instead of talking it out or walking away.

  • Rebuild MSF hospital in Kunduz
The fact that the US military could continue to bomb the hospital even after MSF staff informed them it was happening makes the US responsible. It's high time US taxpayers held the military to account for its reckless and in this case disastrous actions.

  • Oppose Syria "No Fly Zone"
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is joining with Republican warmongers like Carly Fiorina to call for the U.S. to impose a “no-fly zone” in Syria. Despite the innocuous-sounding name, these proposals for a “no-fly zone” are proposals for dangerous U.S. military escalation against Russia, Iran, and the Syrian government. [1] President Obama has rightly called Republican proposals for “no-fly zones” and “humanitarian corridors” in Syria “half-baked” “mumbo jumbo.” [2] Senator Bernie Sanders is standing with President Obama and against Hillary Clinton in opposition to these “half-baked” proposals for military escalation. “We must be very careful about not making a complex and dangerous situation in Syria even worse,” Sanders said, warning that a no-fly zone in Syria "could get us more deeply involved in that horrible civil war and lead to a never-ending U.S. entanglement in that region.” [3] Urge Congress to stand with President Obama and Senator Sanders against dangerous U.S. military escalation in Syria by signing our petition. • No suspensions for staring!
We were shocked when our 12 year old son was suspended from his Cincinnati area Catholic school for playing a staring game with a girl in his class. Even though the other student participated and laughed throughout the game, school administrators suspended our son because they claim he ‘intimidated’ her. We feel our son has been targeted for unfair treatment because other students in the school have behaved inappropriately, but were not punished. In addition to making him feel like a criminal for playing a game, this suspension is on our son's permanent academic record, making it difficult for him to get into other private schools or even a college. We work hard to raise our children right, sending them to private school, involving them in activities and helping with their homework. Our children deserve better than this. We are working to clear our son's record with support from you and the 'Let Kids Be Kids' campaign from Families and Friends of Louisiana's Incarcerated Children (FFLIC).

  • Stop the gun violence
We need to stop the slaughter of innocent people caused by guns. Every country has mentally ill people, but only the USA has so many gun victims. I own three guns and do not want guns taken away, but sane and sensible laws need to be passed, and the stranglehold the gun lobby has on our politicians needs to be stopped.

  • Tell President Obama: Take Executive Action Against Gun Violence
88 Americans are killed by gun violence every day in this country, with hundreds more injured. We're tired of waiting for Congress to act on gun violence. That's why Everytown for Gun Safety just sent President Obama five straightforward actions the White House can take to help curb gun violence, save lives, and reduce crime without waiting on Congress. We know President Obama is open to these ideas, but to overcome the NRA's aggressive opposition, we need to send an overwhelming message that we want real action NOW. Sign the petition to President Obama to tell him you support him in taking executive action to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people.

  • Gov. McCrory: Stop Scapegoating Immigrants
Tell Gov. McCrory to veto HB 318, which would limit acceptance of foreign IDs and make police jobs harder. The question of immigrants having acceptable identification documents is both a practical and safety concern, and an economic issue for police. The manpower used to arrest and process people who do not have identification takes away from other policing priorities. It has been estimated that a wider acceptance of foreign and community-issued IDs in Greensboro has saved the equivalent of two full-time police officers’ salaries in terms of avoiding unnecessary arrests solely for lack of ID. If enacted, HB 318 will make it more difficult for local police and sheriffs to establish the identity of people in our communities, particularly immigrant residents, which will make their jobs harder and more dangerous. Officers who are able to establish the identity of someone they encounter are better able to enforce the law, efficiently employ their limited resources, and keep themselves and others safe. People who have acceptable IDs are more willing to interact with the police as witnesses or victims of crime, which enhances public safety not only for immigrant residents, but for all of us.

  • Sheriff John Hanlin should resign
Gun safety laws cannot be ignored. As an Oregonian and as an American, I feel we have the constitutional right to expect that firearms are well and adequately regulated. http://www.zerocensorship.com/t/uncensored-us-politics/173957-oregon-sheriff-handling-massacre-john-hanlin-fought-the-white-house-on-gun-control-after-newtown#axzz3nMpcTDiR
