• Fire Palm Beach Gardens Officer Nouman K. Raja
On October 18th, 2015 at approximately 3:00 a.m. Corey Jones was sitting in his vehicle on an exit ramp off of I-95 awaiting road side assistance because his car broke down as he was leaving a gig as a musician. Officer Nouman K. Raja who was in plain clothes in an unmarked van approached Corey's car with his lights turned off and driving near the drivers front side. Officer Raja exited the vehicle and approached Corey in a very unprofessional way and created a hostile situation and ultimately shot at Corey 6 times striking him 3 times and killing him. Corey was legally armed with a firearm and never fired a shot as he ran for his life to no avail. Corey was a peaceful young man who lost his life simply because his car broke down. Officer Raja needs to be fired from Palm Beach Gardens Police Department and Palm Beach State College as a police instructor. Fire Officer Nouman K. Raja Now!

  • Regulate gun ownership through general licensing program
The American gun control system is broken. The debate on gun control is divisive and little is being accomplished. Laws are being passed in some areas that restrict gun ownership, but don't prevent mass shootings. In other areas, good laws are being repealed like training requirements in order to carry concealed firearms. I propose that a new system be instated that requires citizens to obtain license, like a driver's license, before being able to purchase any firearm, or enter any establishment, event, or website where firearms or ammunition are commonly sold. Requirements to obtain such a license would be a basic psychological evaluation, federal background check, firearms safety, proper storage, maintenance, and skills training, subsidized out of the national defense budget. This would significantly encourage responsibility among firearms owners and, if coupled by a firearms buyback program conducted at the federal level, would also significantly reduce the number of firearms in circulation in the United States.

  • Break the Logjam: Bring Afghan Linguist Abdul M. safely to the US now.
Abdul worked as a linguist for a friend of mine during the war. He is trapped because the war in Afghanistan has not ended. Especially for people like Abdul M., employed for six years by the U.S. as a linguist to translate and as interpreter between Afghan citizens and our military forces. After a rigorous screening process, the linguists were placed in positions where they honorably gained the trust of their American comrades and served with distinction. As the Taliban incursion moves in, Abdul M. is trapped, harassed, hunted, and if captured, will surely be tortured and die. He is struggling to survive and save his family. He would need enormous sums of money to smuggle himself and his family out to countries where borders are shutting down daily for desperate refugees such as Abdul and his family. Abdul M. is caught in a legal and bureaucratic nightmare called “administrative processing.” He applied for a Special Immigration Visa (SIV) three years ago. Afghans who worked on behalf of the U.S. Government, who helped U.S. Forces were promised SIVs. Section 602(b) of the Afghan Allies Protection Act of 2009, authorizes the issuance of SIVs to Afghan nationals who were employed in Afghanistan by the U.S. government. Why is it taking so long to complete Linguist Abdul M’s application? Enough waiting. Our government’s bureaucracy can no longer be an excuse for letting those who helped us get slaughtered. Our linguist Abdul M. needs our protection. Enough procrastination. Abdul M’s application needs to be expedited now. He and his family should be brought safely to the US now.

  • Greg Abbott: Meet with Immigrant Families
November is the one year anniversary of President Obama's executive action on immigration reform. Now Greg Abbott is Governor of Texas, and your voice has the power to overcome his opposition: sign our petition today asking Abbott to meet with Immigrant families he has hurt, and to hear why he should drop his opposition to immigration relief. There are 1.8 million undocumented immigrants in Texas, and Gov. Abbott's opposition to reform is keeping 750,000 Texans and their families from getting the immigration relief they need. • Clean Up MidTown Center
Central Seattle Residents Against Violence (CS-RAV) and other residents of the Central District are no longer willing to wait for MidTown Center (on the corner of 23rd Ave and E. Union) to sell in order to feel safe. We would like the owners of the property to address the longstanding issues of neglect that have led to many shootings on and around the property, as well as drug dealing, prostitution and gambling. CS-RAV is asking for four changes. 1. A professional security guard patrolling the property. 2. A high quality security system and signage that informs visitors to the property that the system is operational. 3. Repair broken lights and increase overall illumination of the property at night. 4. Remove barriers to sight in order to discourage criminal activity.

  • President Obama: Do more for Syrian refugees!
The crisis in Syria and the suffering of the Syrian people shocks the conscience. While the crisis will not be solved tomorrow, the world can step up and help those who are fleeing violence and oppression. As President Obama said during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly, “There are no easy answers to Syria…But so many families need help right now; they don’t have time.” To date, over four million Syrians have fled their country, nearly eight million are internally displaced, and over 220,000 civilians have been killed as a result of the ongoing conflict. Recently President Obama announced that the United States would resettle at least 10,000 Syrian refugees over the next year. While we appreciate the President’s effort, the United States can and should do more. That is why we are calling on the United States government to increase the number of Syrian refugees resettled in the United States. Please join us in signing this petition calling on the United States government to allow more Syrian refugees into our country.
