STOP leaving companion animals in hot cars!Every year, animals die in confined cars or non-moving vehicles. They die a slow, agonizing death. They needlessly suffer at the hands of negligent, irresponsible pet owners. On a 78 degree day the interior temp of a parked car can reach 120 degrees within minutes. On a 90 degree day the interior temp can soar to 160 degrees in fewer than 10 minutes. In just 15 minutes an animal can sustain brain damage or die. The lives of animals matter! 16 states (AZ, CA, IL, ME, MD, MN, NC, NV, NH, NJ, NY, ND, RI, SD, VT, and WV) already have statutes that specifically prohibit leaving an animal in confined vehicles. Please help us stop negligent pet owners from leaving their pets in hot vehicles, by implementing stern consequences in Michigan. We urge you to make it illegal to leave animals in confined vehicles.79 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Meghan Thomas

Automatic Voter Registration is right for NewJerseyWe shouldn't have to jump through hoops or stand in long lines to register to vote. If we move and change our vehicle registration, voter registration should be automatic. And if we need election materials in other languages, they should be available so that all can participate in the democratic process.6 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Kurt Freeman

Tell FIFA It’s Time for ReformThe scale of personal and institutional corruption within FIFA is staggering. In this toxic environment, workers’ rights and human rights are ignored when determining hosts for international events, including the World Cup, and female players are subjected to systemic discrimination and outdated sexist attitudes. We have a game-changing shot at reform. On July 20, FIFA’s Executive Committee will meet behind closed doors to determine the future of the organization—but the last thing we need is more secrecy. It is abundantly clear FIFA will not change on its own. Only an independent reform commission can root out corruption, tackle long-standing issues with the lack of human rights criteria in tournament host selection, address workers’ rights issues in countries that have won the right to host the games like Qatar and Russia and end gender discrimination. There is a desperate need to establish a transparent bidding process for potential hosts for international soccer events. This process must include human rights criteria, particularly labor rights. High-profile international events should promote the highest possible standards. They are enormously profitable, and the workers who make these events possible by constructing and maintaining critical infrastructure should share in that wealth. An independent reform commission must ensure upcoming hosts Qatar and Russia respect labor rights. No one should ever lose their life constructing stadiums for high-profile international tournaments, yet thousands of migrant workers in Qatar, which will host the World Cup in 2022, are at risk. Under the country’s kafala system, migrant workers’ passports are confiscated upon arrival and these workers need their employer’s permission to leave the country. They are often housed in squalid conditions and work long hours in the incredibly hot climate without adequate rest, shade or water. Young, healthy construction workers are dying at an alarming rate. There also are serious labor concerns in Russia, the 2018 World Cup host. FIFA has the power to demand change and ensure workers on World Cup projects are not subjected to abuse, but for that to happen, we must change FIFA. Reform also must address gender discrimination within FIFA. The gender pay gap is perhaps unsurprising considering FIFA President Sepp Blatter’s stated belief that what women’s soccer needs is tighter uniforms. It’s high time to hand this kind of outdated sexism a red card. A new FIFA is within reach—but it’s up to us to win this once and for all.68 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Andy Richards, AFL-CIO

Sen. Casey: Support peace, not war with IranI served in the U.S. Navy from 1965-1970. I spend enough time at the VA to see the result of wars. We also have the wounded warrior project (passing the hat to care for the wounded). Before you help create more wounded, let's take care of the ones we have, keeping the promise we were given when we enlisted.28 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Joseph DeNella

Sen. Ben Cardin-(Md.): Support Iran Nuclear DealOn July 15, the President announced a historic deal between the U.S., European nations, China, Russia, and Iran that would curb the Iranian nuclear program, strengthen diplomacy, and dramatically reduce the likelihood of another war in the Middle East. But already, Republicans in Congress are lining up to try and kill this major chance for peace. Democrats in Congress are going to have to stand strong, but Sen. Cardin has, for months, wavered on his support for diplomacy. Sen. Cardin's vote is going to be critical here which is why it's so important that he hear that Americans support a nuclear deal by a 2-1 margin and his constituents want him to support this deal.37 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Christina Mullen

City Kids Don't Stand a Breathing Chance!I’m a mother of two children in Yorkville, Manhattan. One of my children is a 14-year-old with special needs who struggles significantly every single day with some of the most basic tasks. His ADHD, anxiety, and autism spectrum characteristics are quite severe and daily physical activity is paramount to his well-being. Exercise and fresh air are vital for him to be able to function and feel good. Mayor de Blasio is building a garbage station in the Yorkville/East Harlem area that would otherwise be illegal if not for a "grandfather" clause. The specific laws about where a city garbage station should go have been "waived" for this location for political reasons. Just recently, the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has announced a 30-day public comment period, regarding the permits for the East 91st Street Marine Transfer Station (MTS), which continues through July 24th, 2015. New Yorkers are begging for an unbiased review of the permits and the changed conditions; one based on facts not politics. All other NYC MTSs are all in primarily industrial areas, not where thousands of people live, work and play. Yorkville and East Harlem's kids deserve a breathable place to live, grow and learn.191 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Pledge 2 Protect

NH Addiction Services need more fundingAs an addict in recovery, I know the hurdles one must overcome to get help. New Hampshire has limited rehabilitation centers that take in low income/uninsured clients; organizations like Tri-CAP in Coos County have just consolidated their offices down to 2 locations, drug overdoses are on the rise, and street level education programs for HepC/AIDS and addictions are getting far and fewer between. New Hampshire receives $1.2 billion PER YEAR to go towards addiction, recovery, and drug treatment. We, the citizens, need to let Gov. Hassan know that we want this money to go to all the right places. Sign this petition so we can have our voices heard!113 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Jessica Dufour

Kid Rock: Take the racist Confederate flag down at your concerts! The Confederate battle flag, revived by racist terror groups during the civil rights struggles in the 20th century, remains a powerful, negative and deadly symbol for promoting racial terror today. The recent murders of the Emmanuel 9 and this flag's influence on the alleged perpetrator of those murders is a horrific reminder. People who "love" others should renounce the Confederate flag and not associate with it in any manner!68 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Susan Farquhar

Save Our BoysUsing photographs of black males as targets for shooting practices is wrong. It sends a subliminal message that de-sensitizes and de-values the lives of African-American males. In fact, a picture of any human being should never be used, especially for law enforcement training. They should only be allowed to use the silhouette pictures for target practice.37 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Debra Boyd
