Pennsylvania's Death Penalty is Broken: It's Time to End It!Governor Tom Wolf recently halted all executions in Pennsylvania. Now is the time to end the death penalty for good. Death penalty cases cost taxpayers far more than locking up prisoners for the rest of their lives, while providing no additional benefit to society. By replacing the death penalty with life without parole, we could free up millions of dollars that could be redirected to other public safety needs, or to help murder victims' families. Replacing the death penalty with life in prison without the possibility of parole also ensures that we’ll never execute an innocent person. At least 150 people have been wrongfully convicted and sentenced to death in the U.S., including six from Pennsylvania, and some innocent people have even been executed.691 of 800 SignaturesCreated by Pennsylvanians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty

The oil industry is targeting Baltimore as an easy throughway to export crude oil to refineries a...CSX is considering using the rails in the Historic Community of Mt. Winans and in other surrounding communities as possible routes to ship volatile and explosive crude oil. These rail tanker cars (DOT-111) are known to leak and have a big incidence of failure. When accidents happen, the human and environmental impacts are costly and dangerous. To date, the deadliest of train derailment and explosion occurred in July 1013 in Lac-Megantic, Quebec followed by Lynchburg, Virginia. In Quebec, twenty crude oil train cars derailed and exploded, killing 47 people and flattening 30 buildings. Targa Resource, a company based in Texas, recently filed for a permit to construct a crude oil shipping facility out of the Fairfield Peninsula. If approved, this project would put thousands of Baltimore residents at risk. As a community leader, on behalf of the citizens of Mt. Winans, I urge you to keep "dirty" energy out of our small urban residential neighborhood. The long-term emergency management, environmental, safety and health risks outweigh the supposed benefits to our fair, vibrant and resilient city. Plus, Baltimore does not need another environmental injustice! Sign here to add your name to this petition, then pass it along to your family, friends, co-workers and others. Tell AG Slatery: Withdraw Tennessee from this partisan lawsuit attacking immigrants!Thousands of undocumented immigrant families in Tennessee will soon have a chance to be a part of the American Dream--but Attorney General Herbert Slatery is determined to get in the way. With Republicans in Congress failing to pass immigration reform, President Obama was forced to act on his own. Now immigrant families will soon have a chance to come forward and register, get permits to work legally and contribute our system, and finally get a chance to live without the daily fear of deportation. But rather than embracing immigrants, Attorney General Slatery has joined a partisan lawsuit against the federal government over the President’s program. Most legal experts agree that this lawsuit is a political stunt and has no legal standing. It’s nothing more than a mean-spirited attack on Tennessee immigrants and their families. Immigrants are a part of the Tennessee community and deserve a chance to work hard, contribute, and be together. Tell AG Slatery to drop Tennessee from this partisan lawsuit, stop attacking our state’s immigrant families, and be on the right side of history.83 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Gabe Ortiz

Keep Peregrine Unspoilt; Say No to the AT&T AntennaCity Planning are reviewing an application from AT&T that would site a 45’ Antenna, disguised as a tree immediately to the south of St. Francis. This “camouflaged” metal tree will tower approx. 20’ over the existing treeline, impacting the native beauty of Peregrine. Enough is enough, the area is well covered by wireless technologies. Industrial lampposts recently added to the NW of Woodman, and the barn on the ridge to the south of Woodmen both contain wireless antennas. This infrastructure has the capacity to support the bandwidth required by additional cellular providers. Perhaps more importantly, if City Planning grant this application and the Use Variance of the existing hillside and valley, it would set a precedence for the future. Opening the door to additional commercial and residential development. This is not how many of our neighbors want to see Peregrine developed.101 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Andrew Bird

Responsible Renewables! My husband and I invested in a home in the country to get away from industry and now we may be moving because of wind power plant development. A neighbor has a child with inner ear problems and will be in proximity to the proposed development. Wind turbines emit low frequency sound waves which can cause vertigo. Industrial wind turbines decrease land values! For more information visit: http://www.garnethillwind.com/14 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Laura Marshall

Guns Do Not Belong In LibrariesI signed Aileen Luppert's MoveOn petition to ban guns in libraries, and MoveOn asked me to start a local petition in my legislative district. I'm frightened for Aileen's safety, and the safety of all library patrons.200 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Sylvia Luppert

Arrest John Boehner for TreasonBy inviting Netanyahu to speak to the House privately without informing the President of the United States, the Republican controlled leadership of the House works not only against the President of the United States but also comes dangerously close to Treason. The text of the 8 U.S. Code 953 is as follows: "Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both. "This section shall not abridge the right of a citizen to apply, himself or his agent, to any foreign government or the agents thereof for redress of any injury which he may have sustained from such government or any of its agents or subjects." Clearly, by his actions, John Boehner has violated the first paragraph. This sort of behavior has to be stopped and John Boehner has to be punished.39 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Robert Fine

Byram, NJ Raise The NJ206 Speed LimitThe 35mph speed limit is too slow to be safe, and needs to be increased. There are sidewalks, crosswalks, and pedestrian crossing signals to keep foot traffic safe. There are 3 traffic lights that control traffic flow and they provide plenty of breaks in traffic so people can get in and out of local businesses. Those arguments for a 35mph speed limit bear no merit and do not hold water. Byram's only reason left is the stated goal of distracting drivers from driving so they will pay more attention to local businesses. Byram should not be trying to distract driver's attention from the road for the alleged gain of local businesses. Byram offers no proof that a lower speed limit does, in fact, achieve their stated goal. Is there any proof tha a speed limit of 35mph results in more business than a speed limit of 40? North of Shoprite there are no businesses, so why does the speed limit stay 35mph all the way to Lakeland Emergency Squad? I spoke to a representative of NJDOT in reference to my complaint. She was familiar with the section of highway in question, agreed with me and wished me luck. Byram, this is EVERYONE'S highway. Why don't you do the right thing and implement the speed limits I've suggested, as it was before the construction? People just want to get home. Drivers have enough distractions without Byram adding to them. Increase the speed limit. I was passed by 7 vehicles as I drove through there last Sunday at 35. My town's mayor was passed by a school bus Tuesday evening when he drove through at the speed limit. It isn't right for Byram to make every driver a law breaker. No hidden riders or measures in Congressional must-pass billsIt's not right or fair for members of Congress to be tricked into voting for "must pass" bills that are loaded with unrelated items, and it's really not fair to the American people who then have to live with the consequences of these bills.219 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Margaret Iuro

Federal Communications Commission (FCC): Require Advertisers to Incorporate Recycling Recommendat...With all of the public knowledge about recycling, there are still people who do not recycle -- whether out of ignorance or apathy. If advertisers took the extra step in informing consumers (even in a small-text message at the bottom of their advertisements) about properly recycling their product and the importance of doing so, the United States could see a considerable change for the better in energy savings, greenhouse gas emissions, conservation of natural resources, and job creation.29 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Stephanie Casella
