  • No Porn on Verizon!
It has been reported that Verizon is defending its decision to provide hard-core porn titles with child and incest themes. The company was included in the 2014 Dirty Dozen List of pornography’s leading facilitators, compiled by Morality in Media (MIM), a national organization that opposes pornography. Verizon needs to show some corporate responsibility!

  • Legalization of Marijuana
US Policy on Drugs was driven by the Drug War, the U.S. prison population is six to ten times as high as most Western European nations. The United States is a close second only to Russia in its rate of incarceration per 100,000 people. In 2010, more than 746,000 people were arrested in the USA for marijuana-related offenses alone. On the 6th of November 2012 marijuana was legalized for recreational use in Colorado and Washington state. People over the age of 21 can possess up to an ounce of marijuana for recreational use. At least these people can now carry weed without worrying about the police arresting them. 31st of May 2013 former Mexican president Vincente Fox states that he wants marijuana to be legalized in Mexico and the USA. 10th December 2013 Uruguay becmes the first country to legalize growing, selling and smoking marijuana. However tourists will not be able to legally purchase cannabis. On the 1st of January, 2014 marijuana was legally sold in Colorado. Anyone 21 years of age and over is welcome to visit their nearby cannabis club and purchase marijuana. This marks the start of the green revolution and Washington will soon follow suit. One thing is for sure, it seems that marijuana has become a brand long before it was legal. At least judging by queues upon queues of people waiting to witness this historical moment and actually buy some weed.Rules & Regulations Still, lets be fair. You can buy it but you’re not allowed to smoke it in public. The first day left a bitter taste for some as the price of weed has risen up to $400 per ounce. That’s almost a quadruple increase of the black market price but black markets don’t have taxes in the range of 25%. The government and police monitoring will be strong in this one as all eyes are on Colorado at the moment. Everybody wants to make sure no slip-ups happen that would turn the legalization movement into a PR nightmare. In the 24 shops that opened that day, Colorado hasn’t reported one single incident. Well, there was a guy who was caught smoking it outside but that was quickly taken care of by the police. So if Missouri can follow these states I think it would cut down on are prison population in the state of Missouri

  • We want to stop Verizon from decision to provide hard-core porn titles with child and incest themes.
What does society find acceptable" Once again Verizon sinks to new depths in customer care. This needs stoped now!!! Broadband and telecommunications giant Verizon is under fire for defending its decision to provide hard-core porn titles with child and incest themes. The company was included in the 2014 Dirty Dozen List of pornography’s leading facilitators, compiled by Morality in Media (MIM), a national organization that opposes pornography. According to MIM, lewd titles like “I Banged My Stepdad,” “Mom, Daughter and Me,” and “Pigtail Teens Pounded” are just some of the many offerings featured on Verizon’s FIOS video on-demand service. In a letter to MIM, Verizon’s Associate Director for Advertising and Content Standards John P. Artney defended the company’s choice to provide the content, noting that “consumers today have extraordinary choice in and control over the content available to them across these networks.”

  • California Republicans: Seriously?
VICTORY! Governor Brown has now signed SB 27, the bill to force Dark Money non-profits to reveal their secret funders in California elections! To their credit, after bill author Senator Lou Correa made a reasonable amendment to ensure that people who made donations before SB 27 goes into effect on July 1st aren't surprised by being disclosed, three Senate Republicans voted Yes, adding to the 25 Democrats who voted Yes and giving it the margin of victory it needed to get to Governor Brown's desk. The three Republican Senators who deserve praise for voting Yes on SB 27 are Senator Anthony Cannella (R-Ceres), Bob Huff (R-Diamond Bar), and Andy Vidak (R-Hanford). Other Republicans voted No or didn't vote. As California Clean Money Campaign President Trent Lange said afterwards in the Sacramento Bee: “Governor Brown’s signature of SB 27 marks a turning point in the fight to reveal secret funders of political campaigns. It starts to shed light on dark money in California and serves as an example for the entire nation." Your petitions and calls worked! SB 27 became law after more than 40,000 people like you signed petitions. More than a thousand people applied extra pressure by calling their legislator. SB 27 was a great coalition effort in which the California Clean Money Action Fund worked with not only the bill author Senator Lou Correa, the sponsor FPPC, and our CA campaign finance friends at California Common Cause, California Forward, and the League of Women Voters of California; but also with national organizations like Public Citizen, CREDO Mobile, Courage Campaign, Progressives United, Represent.Us, causes.com, MoveOn.org, Money Out Voters In Coalition, MapLight, Label GMOs: California's Grassroots, Lutheran Office of Public Policy - California, Moms Across America, and others. Thanks to everybody who signed and helped us achieve this historic victory! PLEASE ADD YOUR NAME TO THE PETITION and we'll tell you how you can help pass other crucial bills to end the dominance of Big Money in politics, like SB 52, the California DISCLOSE Act and SB 1272, the Overturn Citizens United Act. -- Your friends at the California Clean Money Campaign (www.CAdisclose.org)

  • Preserve, Support and Maintain Cheyney University of Pennsylvania
Cheyney University was founded 177 years ago and is the first institution established to educate persons of African heritage who had been held in bondage in the United States. Cheyney University has been the institution where marginalized students could develop their potential and acquire the knowledge and skills to strengthen Pennsylvania. Graduates are educators, legislators, diplomats, doctors, lawyers, chefs, and the list goes on. Many of these highly successful alumni might not have attended university had Cheyney University not been available to them. Cheyney University provides an irreplaceable resource to Pennsylvania. It is a state and national historic treasure. For years, Pennsylvania has failed to fund Cheyney equitably. The school has not received the support provided for the other thirteen Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education schools. In 1999 an agreement between the Commonwealth and the Office for Civil Rights was reached wherein Pennsylvania promised to equitably equip this University. The state has yet to fulfill the 1999 agreement and the draconian budget cuts to higher education under the current administration has created an extremely debilitating financial situation for this school. At a time when all of Pennsylvania’s youth must pursue some manner of continued or higher education, law makers must maintain our university system. Pennsylvania’s public funds are used to support 40 prisons at twice the cost of supporting higher education. This is wrong for the future of the commonwealth. Do the right thing for Pennsylvania, for our young people, and for persons who might otherwise not seek to change their relationship with society by attending college. Meet the standards set forth in the 1999 civil rights agreement. Preserve, support and maintain Cheyney University.

  • Concerned About Exposure To Toxic Chemicals?
The weak and outdated Toxic Substances Control Act does next to nothing to keep you and I safe from toxic chemicals. In fact, the scary truth is that there are about 80,000 chemicals approved for use in everyday products and very few have been tested to see if they are harmful. Many are linked to reproductive disorders, learning disabilities, diabetes, and cancer. That’s a whole plethora of chemicals that Americans are exposed to on a daily basis! We need you to call on your senators to make sure that reform of our toxic chemical laws is substantive and real. Chemical reform must protect pregnant women, workers, children and overburdened communities, and the Chemical Safety Improvement Act (S. 1009)—as drafted—does NOT pass the test.

  • What happened to "Rest Homes" for our loved ones?
My 85yr old Mom with Adv. Alz. that is progressing. She has taken at least 7 falls in 6mo. They were to implement it fully in Jan 2014. But to this date the protocol isn't consistant. As the residents are suffering. She fell the first time in Oct 2013 on an Alarm ( On the BATHROOM FLOOR ). She told them to get rid of-And they did. WE asked for them to put it back in. They said no-Because they were going to be Alarm Free as of Jan 2014. She could've had 2 1/2 mo of a program IN PLACE to help get her started. They refused her Xrays or Cts. At least 2-3 she was unresponsive. She had a hip replacement over 2yrs ago. Feisty as she was, didn't cooperate with Physical Therapy, she just wanted to walk. Therapy gave orders to staff for 15min. twice a day for restorative walking. Most included the time she did walk to the bathroom. She has 2 torn rotaor cuffs with bone spurs, fractures in her back also. With this program she is now mostly independent for everything, she helps with ADLS. They give Meds, Baths, Meals, Treats, & suppose to provide proper hygeine care twice a day. With some help by some compassionate CNAS & Nurses to get into bed & cover her, as she can't. I was told, she has to learn to do all this herself. There are 2 alarms left. In her chair & on her door. She is killing herself trying to accomodate this program. And maybe the 1st Stastic for this home that I believe is trying to be the 1st in the state of Wi, that will be totally Alarm Free by Apx July 2014. Protocol was suppose to be checks every 15min, now changed to every hour. Noone knows proper protocoI. know their are advantages to this program. I also know theor exceptions to this program like my Mom. But independently walking on Pcyhotrpic drugs (Risperdal, Adavant, ect), & opieds as well as getting into anything such as Sanitizers & Soap dispensers.ECT will only compound this situation. And we have been refused to even sign a new Residents Rights. PLEASE HELP MY MOM ASAP!!! Before she breaks again or worse this program takes her life. Thank You
