Because of FATCA (the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act), many American citizens who reside abroad have been denied bank accounts (or had them closed) by banks which don't want the hassle of responding to this U.S. law. This makes it very hard to conduct normal life. Americans who are also citizens of another country may also naturally retain bank accounts in their former home country, because they might vacation there, have a business there, etc. FATCA should be closely targeted on tax evaders (and terrorism supporters), not on middle class citizens living normal lives. Davidson College has very few formal resources available for individuals interested in pursuing law after graduation. As a member of the Pre-law Society e-mail list, I have been confronted with how unorganized the process is. Davidson students interested in attending law school after graduation should have more formal resources in the form of an organized Pre-Law program with an advisor similar to the Pre-Med program already on campus.

Living in Los Angeles, my small children are forced to view enormous graphics of serial murderers holding knives dripping with blood, dead bodies, vampires and other various forms of the "undead," barely clothed models in overtly sexual positions, and a whole other host of inappropriate and terrifying images and texts. I can choose what television programs, books, and magazines my children view. There is regulation in regards to content for children's television shows and commercials played during these shows. Yet, I have no control over the images or words my children see every day as they walk on the sidewalk, look out the car window, or travel on public transportation, and there seems to be little to no regulation for these advertisements. Also, as advertisements change often, I never know where the worst offenders will be; I have avoided certain intersections because of a particularly disturbing billboard, only to find a new equally disturbing image plastered up along my alternate route. Children (and adults) should not be subjected to violent and sexual images in public spaces. Please create more stringent regulation on billboard and other public advertisement. Thank you!

Police visited the property of Kevin and Brittany Chambers at midnight to ask them why their car was parked a few blocks away. Before police could speak with the residents of the house, they let themselves in to the couples yard and fired 3 shots at their dog, Winter. The officer who fired a gun at a dog that was in its own yard should be suspended immediately. No crime was taking place, no criminals apprehended, no emergency situation, no one even called the police to the property. They came, they shot, they left. Vera Scroggins is a 63-year-old community activist who has been exercising her constitutionally guaranteed First Amendment rights and speaking out about the hazards of fracking. In retaliation, the Cabot Oil & Gas Corporation sought, and a judge granted, an injunction so broad it prevents Vera from entering a total of 312.5 square miles of land in her home state of Pennsylvania -- including the homes of some of her friends, her neighborhood grocery store, her eye doctor, and even the nearby hospital! While fracking companies may not appreciate activists who take a stand, we simply cannot allow them to so egregiously violate the freedom of speech and freedom of movement to which every American is entitled by the Constitution of the United States. Take a stand against corporate retaliation. Defend the constitutional rights of all Americans. And let Vera know you've got her back.

The current proposal to build a strip mall would destroy the historic architecture, density, and transit orientation of our neighborhood crossroads to make a quick buck. Hold Urban Partnership Bank to a higher standard: demand a sensitive reuse of the buildings for economic development that maintains the future potential of 71st & Jeffery to be a vibrant, attractive commercial crossroads - think 53rd Street in Hyde Park or 95th Street in Beverly.

I am eternally homeless with no family. As I am not allowed housing nor can I rent an apt even though I went bankrupt. I have been able to sporadicly aquire sub-standard housing renting porches using space heaters and such. I have been cheated, robbed and hounded from place to place for the last 5 years with no chance of being allowed to live indoors legally with out being able to sign a lease till my name is cleared of false conviction. The Portland Maine Police are above the laws they pretend to enforce. When a man becomes police cheif because he got away with lying about a shooting he was not present at then you have a systemic breakdown of the legal system. The people who were supposed to protect us are now free to shoot rape and rob whomever they want with dirty filthy garbage like Neal Duffet to cover their tracks. Please restore law and order in Portland Maine and give me my civil rights back!
