The Federal Clemency Advocacy Center is dedicated to reforming the Federal criminal justice system. There are over 215,000 federal prisoners. Approximately 40 percent are in prison for drug related offenses. Many are low level and first time offenders subjected to overly harsh mandatory minimum sentences. This modest proposal will help slow the cost of incarceration and help reduce growing overcrowding. It is only a first step. The Voting Rights Act is one of the most important pieces of civil rights legislation Congress has ever passed. Last Year's Supreme Court decision weakened critical provisions of it. Right now, Congress can restore those protections by passing this important bill. Please support this effort by cosponsoring and fighting for a strong bill.

To protect the rights of all American citizens to have the freedom to vote without curbing those rights to particular groups of people who might vote a certain way. No one knows what is in the heart of any voter no matter skin color, gender, creed, or sexual orientation. What is in each individual's heart no one can possibly read. Voter fraud is miniscule at best. Taking away early voting, Sunday voting, same day registration, shortened voting days, mandatory voter ID's affects millions of American citizens. That is a cheap ruse from one particular party who knows they stand against the majority and are reckless and too insecure to stand by their principles and win of their own accord. It undermines the very essence of what Democracy truly stands for. One person - one vote!

I know our country's immigration laws are broken. My son-in-law, who has been in this country since he was a teenager, was racially profiled, stopped, and arrested in the small town of Fincastle, VA. In just a matter of weeks, he was dropped in a Mexican border town without ever having appeared in front of a judge and without signing a voluntary removal document. These types of deportations are happening at a rate of 1,100 per day and must be stopped! Over 200 days ago, the Democratic-led Senate passed an immigration bill that would update our broken immigration laws. Yet, Speaker John Boehner and key Republicans in the House -- including my member of Congress, Rep. Bob Goodlatte -- are refusing to allow a vote on it. As the Chair of the House Judiciary Committee, Rep. Goodlatte has the power to move legislation, like the Senate's immigration bill, that could directly help my family and millions of families like mine. Still, Rep. Goodlatte has refused to meet with me (and even my pastor) to talk about it. I need your help getting through to Rep. Goodlatte. Since he's a key Republican working on immigration reform, his decisions will impact all of us!

From 1972-2001, I ran a countywide abortion rights organization and two PACs. We flipped our county from 12-2 anti-choice to 100% pro-choice for county, state, and federal offices, by convincing pro-choice supporters to become pro-choice voters. I will seek every opportunity to urge pro-choice candidates to promote their pro-choice positions in their print literature, radio and TV ads, debates, and interviews. This is a winning strategy.

At the present time, all commercial use of UAS technology is grounded pending release of FAA guidelines. These guidelines have been delayed numerous times. Let the FAA know you believe in UAS and the positive impact it will have on the U.S. economy.

Hemp was such a valuable asset that the government accepted it as legal tender from 1631 to the early 19th century. Hemp can replace synthetic materials used in numerous industries. Hemp can be used to produce plastics that are biodegradable, it can be used for energy production, food, building materials, and so much more. The time to act is now.
