On January 25, 2013, a dolphin was injured and trapped in the toxic waters of the Gowanus canal in Brooklyn. It fought for its life for over 6 hours, while bystanders were taking pictures, and news helicopters were flying by. Local officials decided not to intervene to save the dolphin. After 6 to 8 hours trapped in the very polluted waters, the dolphin died. In 2007 a baby whale also got trapped and died in the canal. The Gowanus canal is man made, and its high level of toxicity and pollution is due to us. We need to have a protocol in place for rapid rescue to help these large mammals swim back to the bay when they get trapped. No large mammal should ever die trapped in the Gowanus canal. We have a moral responsibility to have a protocol of rapid rescue in place, and we need our local officials to explore every option to prevent future deaths.

We believe in our 2nd amendment rights to keep and bear arms and feel that a ban on semi-automatic sporting rifles is an infringment onour rights.

In order to qualify for services as a "handicapped student", most students must be functioning a miinimum of two years behind their expected grade level. Currently students must take State Tests on their expected grade level instead of at their functioning level. This is setting our most vulnerable students up for failure, as well as skewing the annual yearly progress made by our students. Students with handicapping conditions should not be assessed in such an unfair way.

The Keystone pipeline travelling through Nebraska will put crucial Nebraska water at risk. This water is necessary not only for drinking, but also for the integrity of our agriculture. Tar sands are so viscous that the pipeline will need to be heated with natural gas, which will also affect the agriculture and water safety of Nebraskans.

My daughter attends daycare. We receive funds from the Minnesota Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP). The Minnesota CCAP has decreased the number of absents a child can have before a single mom like myself will be responsible to pay for days absent. The reason we apply for CCAP is because we can’t afford the days present, let alone the days absent. Early Childhood Education should be a priority that ensures that all children have a solid educational foundation without the threat of termination. Children get sick, life happens, and we all need more than 10 days a year to allow that which we have no control over to take place.

There are hundreds of high level open positions in the federal government, and Republican judges just moved to gut the president's recess appointment power. The first step in fighting back is for President Obama to make qualified appointments to fill every vacancy. No major federal job should sit unfilled for more than 6 months.

These grants were given for Katrina victims to rebuild or defray blighted properties; however, though appreciated, most could not get the most from the monies because it was never enough to rebuild and, most definitely, not enough, to maintain the property. Conclusion: these grants should be forgiven.

The Republican Party has decided to gerrymander electoral college votes in key states to steal the presidential election, Wisconsin is one of those identified states. Tell Wisconsin State Legislator and Governor Scott Walker that Wisconsin citizens do not want Wisconsin Electoral College votes to be gerrymandered in favor of any political party, especially the Republican Party. The will of the people must prevail and be upheld, every vote should be counted in our presidential elections and the winner should take all per our constitution!
