I'm a schoolteacher, and the tragic events in Newtown, CT are heartbreaking. In light of those events, it's time for a drastic change in how we evaluate Gun Control.

A couple of honorable states like Maryland, Iowa, New York, Washington (and almost all of New England) have passed legislation supporting marriage equality for all Americans. It is time for the Democratic State of Illinois to follow suit. Here are some of the facts: President Obama supports Marriage Equality. A Gallup Poll showed a majority of Americans support Marriage Equality. Voters across America affirmed Marriage Equality in 2012 at the polls. The Obama Administration will not be defending DOMA Multiple federal and district courts have ruled in favor of marriage equality. A recent Public Policy Polling (PPP) poll showed 47% Illinois of voters polled support gay marriage to the 42% opposed. Lets ensure all Illinoisans are afforded the same, equal, fundamental rights.

Take a Stand to Work Against Gun Violence.

We can no longer afford to have career politicians whose vested interest is keeping their job by spending our money to ingratiate themselves with a particular constituency. Demand your representatives pass term limits.

I am deeply distressed by the slaughter in Sandy Hook Elementary School, Newtown, CT. This is only the most recent of wanton gun attacks on citizenry. Guns do kill people and we need stronger legislative action against ownership of guns that kill indiscriminately and easily and ownership of ordnance that makes it easy to load and fire continuously.

We cannot tolerate a nation who allows this violence to continue. Please be part of a smart solution. it's clear that the staus quo is not working. Let's put the best minds together and create as peaceful nation as we can.

We are all devastated by the tragic murder of little school children in Connecticut. If there is any truth to the notion that such crimes are perpetrated for the purpose of gaining notoriety, then there ought to be a law that prohibits the publication of the name or image of individuals who are suspected of committing them.

It would be futile to try and climate all guns in private hands at one time. We must start with the elimination of weapons by getting the automatic and semi-automatic weapons off the streets. There is no place for them in the hands of civilians.

We are mothers and grandmothers who have a responsibility to the generations that follow us to leave a legacy of working toward change we believe in. Gun control is one of those changes we believe in.

I call on the University of North Alabama to require immediate and regular counseling for the student who posted racist Tweets before allowing him to return to campus or classes.

Last year, Marine Lance CPL Christian Brown lost both his legs while fighting in Afghanistan. Last week, he lost his dignity while flying on Delta. According to reports, Brown, 29, was humiliated by the airline staff who clumsily wheeled him to the back of the plane, bumping into seated passengers along the way, and refused to let him change seats with fellow ticket-holders who offered him their seats in first class.
