• Save injured workers from insidious Worker's Comp systems
Everybody knows somebody who has been hurt or injured on the job, but few people realize (or care about) the gross inequities, pain, and difficulties getting good health care faced by people who are injured at work. I developed asthma and other allergic health issues from working in a school administrative site – an old, wooden portable that had rusted iron beams in the walls and ceiling. We had been, unknowingly, inhaling fine iron rust powders for years, along with molds and other substances. Sick buildings, usually the product of poor maintenance by employers, causes physical, economical, emotional and career damage to many thousands of hard-working, dedicated people annually. Work-related illnesses cause loss of production, economic family hardship and mental and physical waste. Many people give up in fear for their job or do not report injuries at work, unless they are obvious. The Worker's Comp posters in work locations are not worth - for the truly injured worker - the paper they are printed on! Those posters largely represent a farce. Ask any woman or man who has been injured at work. America needs not only universal health care as proposed by President Obama, but a guaranteed, universal health care system for injured workers that is NOT controlled by the employer and the insurance company (a.k.a. carrier) whose main concerns are keeping claims down and injured workers quiet. Teachers, firemen, office-workers, medical staff, restaurant workers, and everyone who works for someone else are at risk of entering this dark, insidious Worker's Compensation system. I'm calling on all injured workers who have found themselves in this toxic mire of pain and paperwork to unite and speak out. I am asking President Obama to stand up for injured workers around this country and to create protective laws and a universal health/legal system of excellence to treat and protect injured workers. We are women and men who were struggling in this economy to provide for our families, then, an injury at work or on the job threw us into the dark, insidious, unfair, health and legal system of the Workers Compensation system. My petition starts with President Obama because he cares. The U.S. House (Republicans) tend to support only businesses and they do not care about the welfare or injuries of workers. I have never written a petition like this before. Thank you. Michelle D. 11/10/2012. Florida

  • Save the Voting Rights Act
The Voting Rights Act is being contested in the United States Supreme Court. The US Supreme Court agreed to hear the case. With 5 conservative "justices" and 4 so-called liberal justices, the Voting Rights Act is being threatened. Do not allow them to override this legislation. It is still necessary and will be for quite awhile. If you agree, please sign this petition and pass on to your friends to also sign and send to your U.S. Representatives and Senators as well as The White House.

  • Truthful ads only
This past election cycle hosted numerous advertisements that were factually false and misleading..time to stop deceptive political advertisements. We should demand truthful ads on all stations or in print so voters can have facts and truthful details upon which to base their vote. We need an informed electorate!

  • "The Peoples Mandate for the Full Implementation of President Barack Obama's Policies and Program...
My husband is a General Contractor and can't find any steady work. I haven't had a raise on my job in eight years and the cost of living continues to rise. We're frustrated and struggling to make ends meet due to the economy. We were living the "American Dream"--We built our home with our bare hands along with our children and had saved for years to be able to bring it to fruition. We work very hard and are part of the "47%" that Republicans believe want a handout or deem lazy; yet they are content to continue to build the country on our backs to add insult to injury. How insulting! Belinda Carr

  • Papa John's: Stop threatening your workers
John Schnatter, CEO of Papa John's, is threatening to reduce worker's hours to 30 hours per week in order to avoid covering them under the Affordable Care act (Obamacare). He claims it will cost an additional 11 to 14 cents per pizza to cover his employees, a cost he cannot absorb or pass along to customers, so he plans to make his employees absorb the cost through reduced hours and reduced pay.

  • FEMA Should Help Renters
Reports claim that renters in New Jersey, Brooklyn, and other parts of New York City are being denied any assistance by FEMA. Renters, unlike homeowners, have limited or no resources. Renters need money to get a new place to live, buy clothes, and get to and from work. If their old job is no longer available due to Hurricane Sandy, they need help finding a new job. If the renter has children there's more need of assistance. FEMA should provide financial help to renters.

  • STAY OFF THE CLIFF. AVOID FISCAL ARMEGEDDON
I am a concerned American who has come to the realization that our country is inexorably headed for that Fiscal Cliff which we all know will ravage our economy and the world financial system, but do not seem capable of avoiding it. President Obama was elected on a platform that stated clearly that in redressing the oppressive national debt, he would ask the wealthy to pay a bit more in taxes while cutting back expenditures in other areas. In a country that is experiencing one of the highest rates of unemployment in many decades and with an economy mired deep in a slump, Obama, the sitting President won over an opponent who should have beaten him, if not for his message which was neither clear nor appealing to the populace. Without missing a beat, Congress has indicated that they will not allow the President to implement the budget plan which the people voted him in on. We believe that the President is taking a reasonable position and one that has a better chance of balancing the books than that offered by the opposition which still wants to equip our military to fight the Soviet Bloc of the 60's and 70's. If we go by the usual pattern we have seen in government over the last four years, Congress will hold out, now because of some oath they have taken amongst themselves, never to raise taxes. That means their will be no meaningful negotiations. We the people cannot wait until 27 December to become engaged in this matter and must begin now to pressure our representatives in Congress and the Senate to act responsibly and stay away from the cliff. This is not a matter to play politics with. It is our future

  • Arne Duncan Should Step Down!
The policies of education secretary Arne Duncan have been a disaster for public education. His policies have directly led to and increase in standardized testing and a narrowing of the curriculum for students.

  • Pima County Recorders Office
The Pima County Recorders Office apparently made hundred of errors in sending people to the right precinct voting places. I had to file a provisional ballot even though I went to the voting place that their website gave me for my address and I have voted at that same place for several years. My name was not on the roll. And there were dozens of other people with the same issue. The Governor of the State of Arizona should order an investigation of this issue and ensure that every ballot in Pima County is counted.

  • Stop taxing college student financial aid refund money
When I started college and filed my annual taxes, my financial aid refund money was considered income. However, often what I received each semester did not match what my university said I did. Now I owe back taxes on grant money I never personally pocketed.

  • Work together so that this country moves forward!
We, the people, understand that by extending the tax cuts to the poor and middle class it will stimulate the economy. People will have more money to spend and to start up new businesses. This along with The main idea graduated tax rate increases for those earning more than $250,000 is a workable compromise that should satisfy the people and to move this country forward. At this time, we, the people, do not want to see any cuts to social security, medicare and medicaid now or in the future, except to have the income cap removed from these entitlement payroll taxes. These entitlements are not part of the national budget as they are paid for entirely through our payroll taxes and should not available to you as bargaining chips. This money belongs to the people. We, the people, do not want to see another fiscal showdown!!!!!
