• Swearing Crackdown at Forest Hills Diamonds
I'm starting this petition because it punishes innocuous missteps and grants further power to umpires who are looking to be outraged. This new rule is needlessly prohibitive and makes Forest Hills Diamonds a less desirable place to play softball.

  • Petition Against The Separation of Families
The President has signed an executive order immediately ending the separation of children from their parents at the border. There is the SB 3036 "Keep Families together Act" being put forth to the Committee of the Judiciary by Senator Dianne Feinstein. Thank you, but we need accountability for next steps for these families traumatized by these separations. We need to know how families will be reunified and that they will be granted asylum in the US to escape the trauma they are fleeing.

This Supreme Court vacancy puts issues that affect every single American in the balance — from a woman’s right to choose to equal rights under the law to privacy and our civil rights. Given the high stakes of this seat, which I believe will determine the fate of many fundamentally protected constitutional rights, the American people should have a say in this decision. I know from personal experience — as a prosecutor and as a beneficiary of the landmark Brown vs. Board ruling desegregating our nation’s schools — that the decisions handed down by the court touch every aspect of our lives. The stakes don’t get any higher. Americans must be heard.

  • Whole Foods: Drop the Charges Against Ateret and Wayne
Two activists are being charged for simply asking Whole Foods a question. Wayne Hsiung and 16-year-old Ateret Goldman asked where Whole Foods gets their animal products, but employees refused to give them an answer and instead called the police. Now, Wayne is being charged with “threatening bodily injury,” and the nationwide litigation counsel for Whole Foods sent a letter to the prosecutor alleging that the two engaged in “abusive conduct.” This resulted in an effort to remove Ateret from their family! Whole Foods claims they care about transparency, but repeated DxE investigations of Whole Foods’ supposedly “humane” farms have found thousands of diseased and dying animals crowded together in dark sheds. When questioned about these findings, Whole Foods refuses to explain the abuses and, instead, arrests customers for asking. These ridiculous charges need to be dropped!

Dr. Sheldon House accepted the call to serve as the Principal of Simeon Career Academy in 2009. Simeon was experiencing a change in administration and metrics for the school were all plummeting: the school was rated level 3 with probationary status, there was low attendance percentages, disciplinary infractions were at all time high and low test scores indicated that the school could only be well known for being a athletic powerhouse. Simeon needed intensive support. Dr. House has worked tirelessly, day in and day out to elevate Simeon and under his leadership, Simeon is currently a level 1 school of application. The school provides a world - class education to inner city youth across the City of Chicago. Simeon currently has a 91% attendance rate with a school culture of calm. Our motto is "Excellence is the only option!" and OUR school community demonstrates this time and time again in the face of challenges and celebration! Our distinction as an athletic powerhouse is still prevalent, but we now can add to that attribute the fact that we exceed the district in college persistence, high school graduation and a record-breaking freshman on track record. As a parent and CPS employee, I am confident in saying these drastic improvements can only be credited to our Principal, our leader, who has had a clear vision and continuously insisted that his staff follow the appropriate procedures and protocols. His decisions have always been rooted in what is best for children's success. I am saddened that he has been stripped from the school community based on allegations that have not been proven and that seem to be the result of a lack of training for ALL CPS employees. This makes for traumatic uncertainties for the Simeon school community. It appears that CPS has made a decision in haste in efforts to keep students safe, however, OUR school community knows that Dr. House is what's best to ensure that students remain safe at Simeon. His hard work to build the school up should not be torn down based solely off of the allegations and actions of others. Dr. House has always put student safety first! We don't want another Principal! We want Dr. House! Reinstate Dr. House! We are on a Mission...Sign the Petition #SaveDrHouse

  • Stop Trump Administration Plan to Allow People to Kill Last Endangered Red Wolves
The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service just released a revised management plan for highly endangered red wolves. As few as 30 of these animals exist in the wild, making them one of the world's most endangered wolves. In spite of the urgent need to work to recover this species, Secretary Ryan Zinke and his political appointees at the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS) will radically scale back the already meager efforts to bring them back in the wild. The plan calls for the reduction of protected habitat to just one county in North Carolina (Dare County, NC). This would effectively reduce their available range by a staggering 90%. More shocking, the USFWS will allow private landowners to kill these highly endangered wolves if they leave protected refuges and enter private property. Please sign the petition to Secretary Zinke asking him to revise this flawed and dangerous plan that could push red wolves into extinction. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/energy-environment/wp/2018/06/27/interior-plans-to-let-people-to-kill-endangered-red-wolves/

  • Dear Democratic Senators- Trump's SCOTUS Pick Must Be Stopped At All Costs
Dear Democratic Senators, When Republicans committed to stealing President Obama's SCOTUS pick, Merrick Garland, we were 269 days away. We are now 132 days away from the 2018 election. With only 4 months away from the next election, there should be absolutely no consideration of a Supreme Court nominee until the American people have a say. There should be no meetings, no hearings, and no votes. You all tried to play nice over the Garland fiasco and NOW IS THE TIME TO PLAY HARDBALL. Leader McConnell set this standard when he denied Judge Garland a hearing for nearly a year, and the Senate should follow the McConnell Standard now. The American people must have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice. This selection will affect Americans for the next 40+ years. Therefore, this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new Congress. There is too much at stake to ignore this demand for action including Women's Rights, LGBTQ+ Rights, Gun Control, Environmental Protections, Roe v Wade, Money in Politics, Healthcare, Voting Rights, Gerrymandering, Union Rights and Marriage Rights, among many other extremely important issues for all Americans. Democratic voters are energized, angry, mobilized and ready to crawl over broken glass to restore the US Congress to full Democratic control. But anything less than a full-throated effort to stop this appointment shall subject the Democrats to the full and fierce wrath of the majority of voters who are counting on you to save the republic. THIS is the hill to die on. Anything less will not be tolerated. America is depending on each and every one of you. Sincerely, Concerned Citizens of the United States

  • Stop any of Trump's nominations to replace Justice Kennedy.
Because I think many decisions by the 5/4 supreme court have been partisan. We need a democratic choice for the court; the one we lost due to Mitch McConnell. This is the most important decision for civil liberties. And, just for the record, I'm a white 65 yr. old woman with daughters in their late twenties, and I want an inclusive not exclusive society for them to live in.

  • No Trump Appointment Until the Russia Investigation Is Complete
The President of the United States is a subject of an ongoing criminal investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller that could very well end up before the Supreme Court. This investigation has already resulted in more than two dozen indictments, including of Donald Trump's former campaign manager, with more likely to come. Given the possible conflict over such a profoundly important matter as the legitimacy of the election that put him in office, there should be no Trump appointment to the Supreme Court until the Mueller investigation is complete.

  • SCOTUS Nomination: Fair process and Fair-minded Justice
We've already been sweating through decision after decision coming from the past several Supreme Court sessions with as many defeats as victories. The key vote in 5-4 decision after 5-4 decision has been Justice Anthony Kennedy and while his votes haven't always been what progressives wanted, he has also helped the progressive position through key decisions as well. This tenuous balance is in danger now. Justice Kennedy has announced his retirement and Trump is already licking his lips at another chance to moved the court to the right. What to do? Of course, we will speak up about justice, we will work hard on the upcoming elections to get balance in Washington by taking back power from Trump's Republican allies, and we will settle in to the long battle for sanity that must be waged for the progress.
